Irvin: I don't want a rematch with Silva

James "The Sandman" Irvin is set to make his octagon return at UFC Live: Vera Vs Jones on March 21 against Alessio Sakara. Irvins record stands 14-5, with his latest loss coming from the hands of Anderson "The Spider" Silva. When asked what he thought about a possible rematch with "The Spider" he had this to say;

“Honestly, I don’t think I would ever deserve a rematch with him unless I won ten fights in a row by vicious knockout! He might even be retired by then. I don’t want a rematch with Anderson Silva to be honest.”

During Irvin's fight with Silva, Silva KO'd Irvin in the first round and now he will try to bounce back from that loss by beating the heavy handed Alessio Sakara, who is currently on a 3-fight winning streak inside The Octagon.

    no one is scared of him because he hasnt had any impressive ko's the matches he won in the ufc were all won by decision. would u rather fight someone who is 10-0 in ufc whos all wins came by either ko or submission or someone who is 3-1 winning by decision?

    Because he loves his sport and wants to compete? I think he is simply being honest, practical. He knows, like everybody knows, that Anderson is probably the 2nd best P4P on Earth (behind Georges). He is being very respectful, and that should be appreciated. Anderson deserves respect, and Irvin doesn't let his ego run his mouth for him.

    Kudos to Irvin.

    I played sports for years knowing I would never be the best at any of the 4 I played and that didnt stop me, nor 99% of people out there.

    You do it because its fun, and you like it, and it defines you, and various other reasons.

    Plus in Irvin's case, and some athletes blessed with enormous talent you get PAID!

    fighters should be hungry to be fighting the best, its like seeing top heavyweights turn down a chance to fight Fedor.. Irvin seems like he is contempt in being a low quality fighter.

    Yes, they should, like Fedor should be. But he joined Strikeforce where there is nobody who can challenge him. You can't criticize that because you're obsessed and can't be objective. You think every other fighter should be obligated to leave their vastly superior organizations to go chase him down in the minor leagues.

    It's a joke. Stop making weak excuses. I'm a Fedor fan, always have been, but it's absolutely pathetic that he has already retired and is still pretending to be competing.

    I'm pretty sure Fedor doesn't go to sleep at night wringing his hands and laughing maliciously about how he has everyone fooled. Knowing his background he probably feels blessed that he gets to make a good living doing what he loves, and it doesn't go any further than that. The only ones making a big deal out of the p4p claims is you lot. If you only obsess about winning than you will loose. You might win some fights but you'll be a prick that no one wants to be around. I commend all these fighters for being happy and (fortunately) not caring too much about what we write here. I think the fighters should go on doing what ever the hell they want and I'll be just as entertained.

    Irvin is a good fighter, but honestly who doesn't get destroyed by Silva. All he can do is win this fight, and keep going.

    Come on. Why does Fedor have to be brought up everytime. He has fought the best competition. Fedor does not have anything to prove to anyone. Sandman on the other hand.... I feel for the guy losing to Anderson like that. He is keeping it real but I don't see him in the UFC that much longer. He's at the bottom of the division right now.

    Anderson silva has fought a lot of mediocre brawlers not strikers who are finally being exposed for there lack of defense???... Rich Franklin, Chris Leben, James Irvin, Nate Marquedt, Forrest Griffin, all of these mediocre fighters are brawlers, therefore the receive as many punches as the give. which is a no no...Dan Henderson is a good points/decision fighter, but he's a slow wrestler that he has no submission game or great ground and pound. The UFC has picks great fights for Anderson. Plus Anderson was throwing illegal elbows against Travis Lutter check it out.. Travis was winning too... after that fight he has not fought a good grappler becasuse the UFC got scared... James Irvin or no other brawler should never want to fight Anderson Silva... Props to you James Irvin for realizing that!
