Injury forces Court McGee out of UFC 131 fight with Jesse Bongfeldt
Posted on April 5, 2011, 02:18 AM by Joey SantosusThe Ultimate Fighter 11 winner, Court McGee, has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming bout with Jesse Bongfeldt at UFC 131 due to a torn ACL suffered during training.
The injury, which was first reported by MMAJunkie.com, has since been confirmed by sources close to the situation.
McGee (13-1) was looking to continue building momentum after submitting Ryan Jensen at UFC 121. The victory brought him to 2-0 with the promotion, having previously defeated Kris McCray at the TUF 11 Finale to secure a six-figure UFC contract.
Bongfeldt (21-7-1), meanwhile, made his promotional debut last December against Rafael Natal. After a close three-rounds of action, the judges declared the bout a draw. Prior to the match-up, Bonfeldt had built a seven-fight win streak competing in smaller Canadian promotions.
The UFC has not yet announced McGee's removal and there has been no word on a replacement at this time.
UFC 131 is set to take place June 11th from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The stacked card will be headlined by a Heavyweight showdown between TUF 13 coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos, while top Middleweight contenders Demian Maia and Mark Munoz will go head to head in the co-main event.
