Humble Kimbo Slice feels like "a little Nemo fish swimming with sharks of the UFC"

Ultimate Fighter 10 participant and probably one of the most recognizable Mixed Martial Arts figures in the world, Kimbo Slice, discussed his future in an exclusive interview for the Gracie Magazine. Kimbo defeated the UFC veteran Houston Alexander in his last fight, and it looks like he finally found home in a promotion that only a year ago refused to recognize him as a fighter:

"I never thought about fighting professionally while fighting in the streets. I started fighting to make money. We live in a world where there is a system to follow. Everyone has to make money and find a way to survive. Street fighting was my livelihood.

Everything is a learning experience, since there are many big fish, some sharks and some whales. I’m just a little Nemo fish swimming with sharks of the UFC. I know I have a long way to go, but it’s a matter of time and I will improve my technique."

Kimbo (4-1) currently trains at the legendary American Top Team camp, alongside some of the biggest stars in Mixed Martial Arts. Slice will make his second official fight inside The Octagon against the fellow Ultimate Fighter 10 participant Matt Mitrione on May 8th at UFC 113. The card will be headlined by the second battle in a war between Mauricio Rua and Lyoto Machida.

    like it or not.

But Kimbo IS one of the most recognizable MMA figures in the world. Most of the people dont know who Fedor is, but they surely know something about Kimbo Slice.

It is sad, but it is what it is.

Yeah... He successfully leveraged a huge name for himself by beating thugs on the street, and turned it in to a UFC contract. Nobody can deny that he's skating on his own brand name. There was too much pressure, too many people wanted to see him fight, he's done well for a street thug with no skills.

He seems like a nice guy, humble, but yeah... Being able to beat people up on youtube is not the same thing as competing in MMA. I hope he does well, why not.

As far as I'm concerned Houston did not fight Kimbo. Houston doesn't fight like that and it was painfully obvious throughout that whole bout that the "strategy" wasn't working. It just didn't seem right. Of course Kimbo is the UFC's big mainstream star. I don't think he was supposed to lose.

Houston was probably the only UFC he could have beaten... But, it wasn't Kimbo's fault that Houston ran the entire fight and made it boring. It could have been a great slugfest.

Kimbo isn't a bad fighter. If he can get his ground game up some more then he is good. In the Alexander fight he didn't throw many punches cause alexander had KO power.

I am actually excited to see Kimbo's future in MMA...

The guy will always be nothing but a street brawler, he was trained by the legend Bas Rutten.. and claimed that Bas wasn't coaching him properly as an excuse of him being beat. Hes a freakshow, Dana saw this opportunity and took him in TUF10.

Fights on TUF don't count unless it's the finale.

fights on tuf aren't recognized as ranked fights by the nevada state athletic commission so they don't effect your record, hence only one loss, the one to seth petruzelli.

Even Dana when asked by a fan at ufc 110 said he didnt think kimbo wasnt a real contender but not everyone can be champion and within a couple years if he stays healthy there's no reason he can't be a solid sort of lunchbag type fighter who shows up every few months and can give someone a decent test.

Did anyone else find it ironic or at least amusing when he never thought about fighting professionally when he was street fighting essentially professionally to make a living?

You know Kimbo is humble and i think his image installs alot of bad preconceptions in peoples minds about the man. Its obvious his skills in mma are improving. He looked good against Houston you could see the power this man posses he ripped put a 100% of what he had into that fight, and for someone with just stand up susposidly that suplex he gave houston showed the technique that he has been working on, and it was sick
