Hector Lombard signs with the UFC

One of the only top-ranked Middleweights outside the UFC, Hector Lombard, has officially signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Now former Bellator Middleweight Champion, Lombard holds a highly impressive MMA record of 31-2, with 17 KO/ TKO and 7 Submission finishes. Lombard is currently on a 25-fight winning streak.

At the age of 34, it looks like the Cuban-Australian 185'er will finally make his long-awaited Octagon debut, with sights on the UFC Middleweight title. The identity of Hector Lombard's first opponent is yet to be determined, but it looks like the All-American Brian Stann could serve as the best possible match-up for "Shango".

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney admitted defeat (via MMAFighting.com) in the fight over Hector Lombard, revealing that his promotion couldn't match the UFC's PPV-baed contract offer. Lombard is 8-0 in Bellator, with KO/TKO victories against every single one of his opponents, excluding the two-time Bellator Middleweight Tournament winner Alexander Shlemenko, whom Lombard defeated via Unanimous Decision.

Lombard has never faced a top 5 fighter...never faced a top 10 fighter. In fact the toughest fight he has ever faced in his career was way back in 2006, when he lost to a 21 year old by the name of Gegard. He has steered clear of top competition ever since.

Give him a top 10 UFC MW...say Palhares. If he escapes with both arms, which he won't, we can talk about Silva.

That's true but to be fair to him he as made the jump to the UFC and by doing that has proved he's willing to take on the best of the best.

Aaaaaaaaaawwwwwww Yeaaaaaaaaaaaa. Dana is making dream fights come true. In my opinion not only Brian Stan can test Hector's skills. I would love to see match up between two powehouse middleweights Hector and Palhares. Unfortunatly Palhares already has an opponent. So what about Bisping and Hector for # 1 contendership? In my opinion, Bisping and Hector are only fghters who are ready for the tittle fight.

Stann would be a perfect test, not too much of a test and definitely not too little. It's also a really fun and entertaining fight that will surely get fans excited about him.

It's be a step up for Stann as well. UFC or not, Hector Lombard is a reigning champion, having dominated the crap out of Bellator. A dominant performance by either of them would probably put them straight into title talks.

Munoz is perfect for his first fight. He has no opponent and was in line for a shot so make it happen.

Finaly!!! well i think the only availables for no1 contender with lombard is Brian Stann and Mark Munoz. I think Bisping is taking on Tim Boetch.

But what ever man! i Just cant wait to see Hector finaly drop some bombs in the ufc!

Shlemenko is the best fight IMO he has fought in a while and unlike Strikeforce there isn't a lot of fighters that cross over between UFC and Bellator so it's hard to tell where the Bellator talent stacks up against the UFC's.

He could have been fighting decent contenders or cans, either way his first fight should tell us.

I've been waiting to see this guy matched up against better comp. He was smashing fools in Bellator so it was a matter of time that he came to UFC. I expect him to have very similar success in the UFC.

The guy is a powerhouse of an animal in the cage.

I feel like a asian fan now after seeing how excited i am about this news. For me he is the ONE fighter on my list that i was dreaming to see in the UFC, there's also Mousasi, Alvarez, Melendez the list goes on, but Lombard was THE fighter that i wanted to see in the UFC. He's got the perfect style for anyone, short powerhouse with amazing cardio and power, amazing wrestling but is a KO/TKO machine. Wow i'm pumped !!

Great fighter. World class Judoka with crazy power and really good striking.

    IMO there are two great fights to put him in to test his skills;

    - Stann would test his striking and show us how good he really is.

    - Munoz will prove if his Judo can hang with the top level wrestling in the UFC.

Okami would also be a good fight just to see how well-rounded he is and test him everywhere.

Feed Bisping to him, just for fun.

Don't understand how everyone still underrates Bisping after the Sonnen fight.

Doesn't matter anyway as Bisping is set to meet Boetsch at UFC 148, after Bisping (probably) beats Boetsch I guess he could give Hector a shot at him.

IMO Bisping would be able to pick apart Hector on the feet as long as he avoids the big power shots and he would defend the TD if any as well.

I am a big Bisping fan and rate him top 5 and have for some time. Lombard would KO Bisping though IMO as he is a beast pure and simple. I have only ever seen Lombard get dominated and that was quite some time ago. His hands are dynamite and will stop most opponents he comes across in the UFC. A serious challenge for Silva's belt, make no mistake.

Its about time.. There are so many good fighters in that division for him to fight and show whether or not he can cut it in the UFC. They will definitely put him against a fighter in the top ten and no matter who it is it should be and exiting fight. Been waiting for this for a long time. Good job Dana for out biding Bjorn
