"The Bully" Gray Maynard secured a shot at the UFC Lightweight Title, with a Unanimous Decision victory over Kenny Florian. Maynard successfully executed his trademark gameplan of takedowns and ground and pound, completely eliminating Kenny Florian's striking and BJJ. Maynard secured the desired takedowns over and over again, which allowed him to score valuable points leading up to a 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 Unanimous Decision.
The biggest question leading up to this fight was whether Gray Maynard will be able to impose his will on Florian. And that's exactly what the TUF 5 participant did. Florian chased Maynard around the Octagon during most past of the fight, putting his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to work only in the remaining minutes of Round 3.
Many fans could be disappointed with the fact that Maynard fight will fight for the title, but "The Bully" is currently 8-0-1 in his UFC campaign, and definitely a number one contender in the Lightweight division, especially after a victory over a fighter of Florian's caliber. Kenny Florian collected two consectuvie victories after the defeat against BJ Penn at UFC 101, will now look to work his way back to the top in future Lightweight bouts.
