“I was like damn Frankie’s doing good! He just kept coming, and he did good. It was a great fight. My hat’s off to him. This is the best time. I went through all the top guys. Nobody can say, ‘Oh he didn’t do this, or this.’ This is mine, I deserve this, I earned it.

It’s great competition. He trains hard. He’s a cool guy too. It’s cool because his dad is always like ‘hey Gray!’ talks to me and stuff; nicest guy in the world. So trash talk ain’t gonna happen. But I guarantee you he’s going to train hard, and I’ll train, and it’s going to be a good fight. It’s all business. Throw the trash talk out, it’s just all business.

It was blinging, it was all shiny and stuff. I hope he doesn’t mess it up. I don’t want any chips in it when I get it.”

Number one contender for the UFC Lightweight title Gray "The Bully" Maynard will look to continue his unbeaten record against Frankie Edgar, in a fight that could take at the start of 2011. Maynard remains the only fighter to defeat Frankie Edgar, after edging a Unanimous Decision victory at the main card bout of UFC Fight Night 13, more than two years ago.

As for Frankie Edgar, in addition to getting revenge against Maynard the New Jersey native will try to become the first man to finish "The Bully", who has no less than 8 Decision victories in 10 career fights. Both men have a combined record of 23-1, with 4 Knockouts, 3 Submissions (all Edgar's) and 16 Decision victories.

I am happy to hear that there will be no trash talk.... For myself, that kind of thing is not needed to create excitement around a match. However, the UFC may be a little disappointed... There is already doubters who say this fight will be impossible to market. Maybe to the casual fan, but I am pretty excited to see how Edgar deals with Maynard's style.

no doubt this will be hard to market neither one of these guys ooze charisma but hopefully we'll benefit from that. I'm thinking this fight might be a co main event with Silva v Sonnen 2. either way i'll be shocked if the UFC don't do something to spice up whatever card this will be on

After Edgar's performance against BJ, any fan with half a brain knows they are lucky to witness such skillful fighters now in MMA. Maynard will pose many problems for Edgar and it's very tough to call either way, but if Edgar was a dart player he would called Phil Taylor, if he was a tennis player he would called Federer, golfer Tiger Woods etc etc.

Maynard is also outstanding. Completely different style but a style he applies so well. The UFC does not need to sell this fight if many fans enjoy skill.

Can't wait to see the press conference, should be a real barn burner. Maybe they can get Sonnen to be the guest speaker. I agree though, the trash talk gets old real quick and fights should sell themselves to the fans. I'm pretty excited about the match up between the two and it will be a great fight.

You should have heard what Chael said about the fight on MMA Live. He made a joke about the fight not being able to sell. Haha it had me cracking up.

I'm rooting for Edgar to beat this guy like a drum, but if Edgar can't get up when he gets taken down, it will be a longgg 25 minutes fight.

Florian did pretty good defending the take downs in the beginning and he is no wrestler. I think Edgar improved and if he works hard, he'll be prepared. Well i really hope cos i wanna see him as a champ for a lil longer.

Im def pulling for Gray on this one, idk why but i like the way Maynard carries himself very calm cool and collected, and for saying its gonna be a long 25 mins, Im gonna say that Frankie Edgar has a very boring style, during both BJ fights i was thinking "so are you gonna jab and move again, yep your jab and move again, o is that a hook nope just a jab and move again," just waiting for BJ to do something but he didnt so it worked and i guess its what ever you can do to retain, but anyway GO MAYNARD!!!

Edgar boring? !!!! ??? Are you F****King kidding or what?

Edgar put on a MMA clinic against BJ that no other LW has ever been able to do and you call it boring. What's this guy gotta do to impress? His record is top p4p material if you care to look at it, and the performance against BJ was equal to anything you've ever seen in MMA, period.

Yea, some are just salty over BJ being defeated. Especially the ones who tried to say BJ won the first bout. Why else would they pull for a guy that may actually be the most boring man in the UFC? Which makes them hypocrites by definition when the only criticism they can come up with about Edgar is that he is the boring one? A win is a win tho, but Gray Maynard = Forrest Gump, minus the interesting stories : )

I think Frankie can pull it off, he's a different fighter from what he is in that first fight, and if his performance this weekend showed nothing else, it's that he learns every time he gets back in the cage. Now if only we can get a finish for this fight.

No offence to the skillsett of Gray Maynard, but he’s fights are boring to watch. It was such a clear difference between maynard and Joe Lauzon. One is actually using he’s wrestling background to destroy the opponent while the other is a highly skilled wet blanket.

I think the fight with edgar will be good because they are both wrestlers, but I am praying for edgar to win so I don’t have to see five rounds of Maynard as a wet blanket on a striker in the next title fight.

i havent really heard any trash talk from Frankie but this is good to hear about Maynard. Although he backed up wat he said before the florian fight he just sounded stupid trying to talk shit.

although this fight not be exciting it will certainly be interesting for the LW divison. Gray Maynards a strong LW and he can easily out muscle frankie like he did the last time. but Frankie's camp can come up with some awesome game plans. so it'll be interesting to find out but this fight should be on spike IMO. i dont see PPV buys for this one i just dont.

Any fan who aint interested in seeing what the LW who beat BJ twice needs to ask theirself why they are fans, cos it cant be of MMA as Edgar is top p4p material if you look at his skills. Calm as Silva in the pocket, footwork and movement of Aldo and is great on the ground also, what more d'ya want?

Oh wait, I know, meatheads knocking lumps out of each other.

Please. I hope this goes down with all respect and no trash talk. This could be the first time in a long time where they don't annoy me with all the trash talk.

I don't think Gray was talking any trash. Why? Cuz he said he could beat this guy? It's funny how when someone's an underdog people say it's trash talk to say that you are not really such an underdog. Cuz he didn't say, "Man, even I don't think I can beat Kenny." Is that what people want? He knew his skills were there and he could get the win. People just expect everyone to not predict their own win if they're not supposed to win. Against a high profile fighter like Kenny, I guess saying you can beat him is considered an insult to him. haha. I like Kenny sometimes but not before this past fight. He needs to drop that ego and worry more about his own skills. It was close though.

Sadly, trash talk is probably needed to sell the fight. Although both are very skilled, they have small fan bases relatively speaking. Think Chael Sonnen - when that fight was announced, everyone (including myself) thought "what the hell? This is a waste of a fight for Anderson". The trash talk made me want to watch it in the end, even though it turned out to be a great fight.

Knowing dana, he will build a great card around them. Just because they aren't trash talking doesn't mean the rest of the fighters won't =)

I think he already knows that gray is a boring fighter, both of them do very little trash talk if not none, and they both lack a lot of star power.
