Now it's official. Reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre will defend his title against Jake Shields in the main event of UFC 129 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Both men are currently on an incredible unbeaten streak, defeating some of the top opponents in the game. It will be Georges St. Pierre's sixth title defense, after he defeated Josh Koscheck last December at UFC 124.

Here's more of what UFC Director of Canadian operations Tom Wright said at the online this week's "UFC Ultimate Insider" show at UFC.com:

"We’ve talked about the 30,000 to 40,000 range (at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada). Whatever it is, we’re going to set a record here in terms of turnstile attendance. I can tell you it will be north of 25,000 and probably south of 40,000."

I agree with that Jamie. For some reason I've never felt so sure about the outcome of a fight before. Whatever happens I think GSP will win.

I understand Shield's has been an elite WW/MW for years and hasn't lost in forever but this is a horrible fight for him. He's got really good wrestling but I don't think he's explosive enough to deal with Georges athelticism. His Jui Jitsu is superior but I don't think he will be able to get into a dominant position to use it, and his stand up is brutal GSP will make him look bad on the feet.

My sentiments exactly. I can think of five guys in the UFC who have a better shot at GSP just because they have a better punch. No one can outlcass St. Pierre.

I don't think Shields will win but the way some people on here talk you would thing GSP was fighting a toddler. I think this is going to be a very close fight and GSP is going to keep it standing just enough to beat Shields but I will laugh if Shields keeps it on the ground and takes a W. I guarantee Shields will take down GSP and win at least one round. He doesn't need to be explosive he just needs to touch GSP's lead leg.

Ya man I got GSP in this also but I consider Shields the toughest test for GSP n anyways Shields mite not be able to take GSP down but idk why ppl forget that Shields can always pull guard n work off his back as long as its on the ground thats where Shields wnts it

I can't say this is his toughest test. IMO his toughest test would be against some1 with a little better wrestling then Shields to keep it on the feet and some1 who instead of being a top notch BJJ practitioner a top level striker. he won't be tested on the ground because he's without a doubt the better wrestler he'll be able to keep this fight standing 95% of the time Shields shoots. he mite take Shields down here and den just to show how dominate his ground game from the top is. and then he'll beat his face into a worse mess then Kos' was. Shields has to run across the cage and dive for a leg lol

Not really going to find better wrestlers than shields at that weight range...and that means alot considering shields switches weights. It's really a shame shields has such a hole in his standup game, but then again its not like GSP has unbeatable standup

I know Shields is probably the in the top 3 wrestlers of WW behind GSP and Fitch, I'm not saying the best fighter to challange GSP is in the UFC, I'm just saying the style to Beat GSP would be some1 with Better wrestling the Shields enuff to stay on the feet long enuff to use his amazing stand up that he'd need to even have a chance.

It has been a long time since GSP lost a round. If anyone can take a round it is Shields with his style, but I would not be surprised for Shields to be hopelessly outclassed like most of GSPs' other opponents have been. GSP just keeps improving which is bad news for whoever he faces. I hope to see GSP a little more adventurous in the stand up knowing it would take a one in a thousand shot from Shields to KO him.

I agree. I'll admit Shields has pathetic standup offensively, but I don't think GSP will KO him or be able to do what he did to Kos for 5 rounds. Look at the guys Shields has beat, Hendo, Lawler, Daly, Mayhem and other good standup guys. I think GSP will win but he won't pitch a shutout like he has done his last couple fights.

Funny that you mention Shields getting a KO. As outlandish as that might seem I have a hunch that we will see improved striking from Shields. He knows that is his weak point and going to Thailand shows that he is serious about closing that hole.

Those guys aren't the most technical strikers in the world. GSP will be aware of of the takedown at all times.

Shields has a better chance than most to defeat GSP. His record so far shows he is able to win consistently against a wide variety of top opponents.

I also believe that Kampmann is better than his record shows. Kampmann could have beaten Paul Daly if he took him down, but he was foolish and stood toe-to-toe with Daly. In the Kampman vs. Shields fight, if Martin had kept it standing in late rounds, and let his hands go, he would have won, IMO. Kampmann has the tools, he just needs smarter game-planning.

Shields went to Thailand to train his kickboxing, and he released a video. Watching the level of Shields striking in that video reveals how far he needs to go to be an elite striker.

One thing people don't seem to notice much is GSP's BJJ defense. GSP has fought a number of submission aces and has not been in trouble at all. When GSP is in top control, he is very hard to submit.

GSP also has incredible conditioning, and it is his not so secret weapon in late rounds. The last two fights of Shields that I saw, he was exhausted by the end of the fight--so if the fight goes to late rounds, I see Shields being more vulnerable than GSP.

Even though I like Shields, I don't see him entering the fight with any advantages with the exception of BJJ. St. Pierre has been a BJJ black belt for a few years, and he trains with Renzo Gracie still, and I believe he has improved in this area--he just has not had the opportunity to show it.

faith that he can become exciting again. I respect him very much as a fighter but his last performances as dominant as they were were very lame. Shields stand up is very bad and i believe if GSP really wants to he can end the fight on the feet whenever

GSP hasn't missed a beat in a long time, and I think Shields will have to be at his very best if he's going to have a chance. GSP going the distance.
