UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre continued his preparations for the fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 137, this time sharpening his boxing skills with the legendary coach Freddie Roach. Nick Diaz's unorthodox boxing is considered by many as his biggest advantage in the match-up with French-Canadian Champion, especially when looking back at the convincing TKO victory over Paul Daley last April.

The fight between Nick Diaz and Georges St. Pierre is expected to take place at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 29th. It will be St. Pierre's first fight in USA since the UFC 111 victory over Dan Hardy, and his seventh UFC Welterweight Title defense.

George looks a Little stiff here. He certainly is putting nice stuff together but hitting pads and boxing are a bit different. If this video is intended to scare nick I think it will have the opposite effect. Now if he was sParring manny and doing some nice work....

On the other side we will probably not hear a word from nick until he is forced to around the fight. I have a funny feeling he is keeping some "secret plays" behind closed doors. I could be wrong Gsp is an animal but nick has looked great against great strikers.

I love GSP, and I think his boxing his great but, he needs to loosen up a bit. I also find he lacks power and ferocity, he doesn't throw with bad intentions.

Manny Pacquiao is like 40-50 pounds lighter and makes that bag FLY. GSP needs to start throwing the odd haymaker/power punch, not including that gross and telegraphed overhand right against Jake Shields lol.

I detect no power attempts in that bag scene. He was merely practicing technique.

@fontez. i really dont know how you can think gsp's boxing is great. Certainly not from this video, nor from others that ive seen. This just shows the large gap between the top mma fighters and top pro boxers.

Yes, GSP's boxing is not top-notched, but if I were looking for an MMA fighter with great standup skills I would not look at GSP. I would look at Junior Dos Santos, Alistair Overeem, and Nick Diaz. Sure GSP is well-rounded, but that doesn't mean that his boxing is the archetype of boxing in MMA.

depending on what you call boxing i think gsp and nick are a lot closer than most people think. While nick has much greater hands he lacks any real defense he is flatfooted hands down chin up and zero lateral movement. gsp hands on the other hand while inferior to nicks are faster and gsp has the ability to get in and out quickly. if you throw in gsp kicking ability i think they are about even barring any eyepokes which very well could be nicks secret weapon

They are not in the same league. At all. Kick boxing Gsp May have an edge but not hand speed nor stance nor combinations and I have ne'er seen him sparring boxing. Probably cause he looks stiff.

I agree with you 100 percent. Most likely he will stay well rounded. Diaz is a much more fluid boxer. From looking at this gsp looks like he is a very talented rookie. I imagine the way he has developed his body has something to do with it. All the technique in the world will not compare to years of sparring. Looking good punching bags is a far cry from looking good in a fight or sparring.

A note on eye pokes. They happen all the time without intention. This is where instincts come in from years of sparring. Gsp looked pretty mediocre fighting shields. I realize his vision was impaired but shields is as bad as they come in the stand up. If he tries to box Diaz he is gonna go down. If he kick boxes he has a chance. He should have gone to holland not to Freddie roaches. Something tells me he is going to try and prove something in this fight and have an epic fail.

Quite frankly, I really hope Mr George SAFE-Pierre stands with Nick. If he does decide to bang with Nick, his face will be candidate for Facial Reconstructive Surgery of the year.

Love GSP but he needs to work on his "finishing" skills. He's getting a reputation for "fighting not to lose", instead of "fighting to win".

GSP will never be #1 p4p until he starts finishing fights - as BJ Penn said, there are fighters, and there are round-winners. GSP is a round-winner. GSP has had 5 rounds in which to finish his opponents in his past 4 fights and hasn't done so. I respect his skills and his work ethic, but Anderson Silva will always be by far my #1 p4p fighter.

We all know gsp's gameplan vs diaz is going to be lay n pray.... look at all of diaz's losses in the UFC.. gsp is for sure going to take it to a decision via ultimate ground hugging.. but i really hope diaz can keep it standing.

    WAR DIAZ!

I don't think Nick can be layed and prayed on for 5 rounds. Even in his losses, he was very hard to keep down, and always offered something off of his back. His problem was the fact that his opponents could take him down, he'd get back up, then they'd just take him down again, or he would scramble but still end up on the bottom. The great thing about this fight is that 1) its five rounds and 2) it will be interesting to see Diazs overall ground skills because they haven't been on display in a while and they've likely improved greatly. On paper the fight has to favor GSP. He has a long reach, which is usually an advantage Diaz enjoys. GSP can stay on the outside and utilize his leg kicks and jab. He's physically stronger, and out of all the time he spent on the ground, he's never been close to submitted (besides hughes) or even swept for that matter.

I can't wait for this fight. I disagree with people who think GSP will just take him down and pound him with elbows and that's it. Barring a cut to Diaz, I see this being an amazing fight, and I don't see GSP shutting down Diaz completely. I've said before that GSP may win 8 or even 9 times out of 10 if they fight, but when they meet in a few months, I think Diaz will get the W.

I still rather have seen him face a good wrestler first before GSP, but meh, still can't wait for this.

Maybe though if he couldn't do it to well enough to finish Dan hardy i seriously doubt he can to Diaz. Don't get me wrong he may slam Diaz down but I doubt the elbow and smash part. Diaz plays possum really well and you can bet Greg Jackson is watching all Diaz tapes (he knows him well already). Diaz has beat some top nOtch graplers in bjj and boxes very well.

Gsp needs to keep his distance and shoot but what does he do on the ground to someone who won't gas? The fitch fight is a good reminder except fitch has nowhere near the stand up.

I don't know it s a hard call here. If gsp feels the need to prove something boxing he is screwed. No matter who his coach is.

You need to rewatch some Diaz fights. All three ufc losses were a draw IMO. The only person who took Diaz down at will was Sanchez and that fight was too close to call. Sherk didn't get one takedown and Diaz tdd was awesome. That fight was a draw and the winner was arbitrarily selected. Gsp is not going to ground and pound one of the best guards in mma. Diaz has never been pinned down and beat up.

If gsp wins it will be by points. It's just my opinion but it is also reflective of history. Kos is not known for his guard, BJ Penn looks absolutely pathetic cardio wise, and Hughes number was up. Let's see how he does with a fellow cardio machine, with better boxing, better ground work, and probably good take down defense.

After rewatching Diaz fight Sherk I have changed my opinion of his Tdd. He learned from the Diego fight (which he had no problem reversing, standing up or nullifying).
