Georges St. Pierre brings in Dan Hardy to prepare for UFC 137 Title Defense

Reigning Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre announced via Twitter today the arrival of a brand new training partner ahead of his UFC 137 title clash with Carlos Condit.

"Guess who landed in town yesterday night to come train with me? For sure he'll bring the much needed intensity to get prepared...Dan Hardy!!!" (via @GeorgesStPierre)

Hardy, a one time title challenger, is a peculiar choice for St. Pierre, who dominated the Brit for the duration of their five-round affair back at UFC 111. Though "The Outlaw" showed his resilience by refusing to tap out when caught in submissions that would have likely forced a lesser man to scream no mas, he has since went on to lose three-straight, including a dramatic first-round knockout loss to Condit last October.

What exactly St. Pierre is hoping to gain from this arrangement is unclear, however, according to "Rush," intensity is currently a "much needed" commodity within his camp, something that just so happens to be Hardy's specialty. So what's the word LowKick'ers? Will the unlikely unification pay dividends for the champ on October 29th or will Hardy's presence be more of a hinderance than a help?

Would NEVER have expected this - on one side it seems that a guy that got KO by Condit is the not best guy to bring in for a training partner, but on the flip side it could be good for intensity (Hardy always brings it), and perhaps Hardy picked up a few things banging with Condit.

Hardy got caught by Condit, if he had been completely outclassed then it would be different. But GSP probably just wants to help Hardy maybe, or maybe Hardy reached out to him to learn. Its always good to train with different people.

But either way, good for Hardy, hope he comes back better then ever.

What is Hardy going to show GSP? How to lose 4 in a row? How to get K.T.F.O., or how to get submitted?

Show GSP how to get submitted? You need to watch GSP vs. hardy

I actually think Hardy makes perfect sense as a sparring partner. He is an excellent striker and will push Georges to train harder.

definetely an odd choice, but considering that Hardy is the last fighter to have prepared for a bout with Condit, he may give GSP an interesting angle on gameplans, tips, observations and what not to tackle the natural born killer..... Kind of like asking a guy who just failed a test to help you prepare for it and tell you what to watch out for. Nothing like some first-hand experience.

I hope Condit gets high muscle mass up, GSP is massive and it will go to the ground. Condits ground game is NICE, but being muscled greatly changes one's ability.

GSP is not as big as some think. There are plenty of WWs who are bigger and stronger than GSP. What he does have is great balance between strength, speed and cardio. He isn't a small WW by any means but he is not like a Silva or Jones when it comes to striking advantage.

Hardy was the last person to get in there and throw down with Condit, no matter the outcome that experience counts and Hardy should be able to give GSP some help even if it isn't that much.

A bonus is the intensity Hardy brings everywhere he goes.

GSP is not worried about his ground game, or finding partners to train with--but with striking--it is always hard to find world class strikers with which to have intense sparring practice before a big fight. The only way to learn striking is to strike--not pretend strike, but full contact sparring sessions. This is a good move by GSP as Hardy is a good striker--his problem is not being well-rounded. (ie: wrestling, BJJ), not to mention fighting in the Shark Tank which is the UFC WW division.

Dan Hardy might be in the 5-10 range of the top 10 WW fighters, but as a sparring partner? Wow.

Ask yourself who Condit is using to test himself during workouts? One of his biggest wins is against a guy GSP is tuning up on.

    Says it all really.

Roy Nelson gave Hardy credit for his wrestling skills when he fought Mir ,so I'm sure he can help GSP with his wrestlng.

Seriously though, whats the big mystery. Dan is obviously a great sparring partner for GSP. They could both learn alot from each other.

Wow, great on GSP. He will definitely pick up a few things from the Outlaw. And Dan in turn will learn a great deal from GSP that will help him get back in the win column.

Dan did get caught, he was just an inch or two away from Condit's chin. Had he been a bit more accurate he would of probably KO'd Condit and Condit him. Double KO in the UFC? Could of happened.

If anything, this benifits Dan Hardy a lot

what better person to learn MMA wrestling from than GSP as he's a fighter that didnt have a wrestling base to start off with but has worked on it to a point where he actually outwrestles the wrestlers

GSP is very smart in bringing a heavy hitter like Hardy. He will need to get ready for real because Carlos is a better fighter and a real more dangerous challenge than most people give him credit for. "The Natural Born Killer" is in my view underrated but again, GSP is not taking him lightly and bringing Hardy shows it.

Y is everyone all on the condit bandwagon he s had an ok run in the ufc first he won a controversial split against ellenberger ( a fight that Jake won ) got man handled by rory and got a lucky punch agains hardy, anyone has a chance in mma but to say he's more dangerous I think not

Ok run? ...better than Hardy or Ellenfurberger and a former champ.

All of the fights you mentioned Condit won .. So lets hear the excuses for the losers and not the winner bud. Winners dont need them.

Jake lost and deserved to.. There is no such thing as a lucky punch when your in a fight ... throwing punches is what your supposed to be doing. How about Hardy didn't duck and thats how he got hit. Makes alot more sense.

An ok run?! he was the WEC WW champ for a good run, demolishing a lot of contenders, then he came to the UFC and has had an equally impressive run, really finding his stride his last few fights. However you cut it he beat Ellenberger and also there is no such thing as "a lucky punch" in combat sports, for every punch a combatant throws that is the best outcome possible and is what they are trying to do ultimately, how is that lucky?! was his flying knee against Dong Hyun Kim lucky too? Anyone who knows anything about MMA would agree that Condit is a beast......"an ok run".......get real......

Hardy going to show GSP his elite submission skills?

Hardy Har Har couldn't carry condits lunch-box ... If he wasn't english and had a red mohawk he would not even still be in the UFC.

Might as well bring in the dude from McDonalds that takes your lunch-order everyday (IMO).
