George Sotiropoulous vs Bj penn or Kenny Florian in November

It is speculated that George Sotiropoulos is set to face either B.J Penn or Kenny Florian this upcoming November. If Sotiropoulos gets passed either of these fighters he sets himself up for a title fight this February. What makes this even more important for Sotiropoulos is that he would be fighting for the UFC's Lightweight title in his home country of Australia. With B.J and Kenflo both coming of devastating loses this could mean the difference between being a LW contender and being a LW gatekeeper.

Although he would be a huge underdog in both versions of the bout, Sotiropoulous is on a six fight winning streak in the UFC. He is coming off a decision win against tough veteran Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 116.

I would love to see KenFlo fight him but only because I like him more. Either fight is a huge opportunity for George.

As KF has a loss to Penn in the last year (or so), I'd much rather see a Sotiropoulos vs Penn, match-up.

George has some mad BJJ skills and is touch guy; a gamer who shows up to fight and in shape. He'd certainly be no easy fight for BJ and would be more of a challenge, physically, to Penn, then would be the smaller Kenny Florian. Subsequently, it would put more onus on Penn to show up in shape. Which, to me, is going to be the real test of BJ's desire to compete and continue, at a high level.

George's star is on the rise and a victory over BJ, would do a whole lot for his career and that motivates a hungry fighter and George is certainly that; maybe more so then K-Flo.

A win for Penn over GS, would be a solid statement to the division over a young, rising and talented star. A loss for Penn - yikes.

George needs a test and penn is the perfect test.

BJ is a bad fight for George. George has been doing really well but BJ's stand up is quite a lot better, and George isn't nearly as fast as Frankie. I'd say on the ground it would be pretty evenly matched but I don't think George has the wrestling to get the fight there. I'd probably bet on BJ to finish this fight via tko within 2 rounds.

Lol you need to do some research before giving your opinions...

bj penn is a BJJ world champion, the only ever to not be a brazilian. Even on the ground is a rediculous statement. Anyone on the ground with bj is a bad spot to be, and george is the lesser in all areas

I agree that Penn would give Sots a lot of trouble both on the feet and the ground. Penn just has to get his head back in the game. Sots is a completely different fighter than Edgar, and I think he would have a really difficult time with Penn. I think he would have a better chance against Florian, but I see that as really tough too.

It would be a great match for me if it took place on the ground and we got see these two grapple, however BJ doesn't shoot for take-downs as often as he should and i don't think Sotiropoulos is dynamic enough to consistently take BJ down, chances are BJ would knock him out BJ's a level up in the striking department. Before UFC 118

I would have said BJ Penn would beat Ken Flo no prob but now i'm not so sure

Sotiropoulous should fight Florian just because i think Nate Diaz should fight Penn

I hear this a lot. Is there some speculation that Diaz might drop back down to LW? I have not heard anything about Penn going back to WW.

    @ CageRage

I don't think we will ever see Penn @ 170, again. There would be no point. He has a hard time showing up in shape @ 155, he will never be in shape @ 170. That division is too big, too talented and in too good a shape, for Penn to be viable (in it).

If Penn has the option of this fight and wants to regain the belt, then he should jump at the chance, but it remains to be seen if Edgar has dented his confidence and will.
