You have to give GSP props. When everyone else, including Dana White, are not only looking past Jake Shields but act like he doesn't exist, GSP calls him the "most dangerous" fighter to date.

IMO Jake Shields is a very dangerous fighter, however GSP is a bad matchup for him...again my opinion. He has good enough wrestling and scrambles to keep it standing and good enough standup to hurt him and even finish him.

@jipariente8a, No, what GSP does is always list the strong points of the fighters he is about to face and how he has to avoid that.

In the case of Jake, GSP has been talking openly about facing Jake well before his fight with Kos. He mentioned how he wanted to fight Jake because he thought Jake was the most talented guy he could face.

Like I said, this was long before Kos and while Jake was still in SF.....(if I'm not mistaken on the time line).

If I have time tomorrow, I will try and search out the video interview.

@jipariente8a, Here ya go. I found an article that basically states what GSP said in the video. I will quote it here.

    April 24, 2010

UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre tells Canada’s SportsNet that he loves watching Jake Shields fight and that Shields is the best right now and he wants to fight the best.

“He’s a great submission fighter. He’s got great technique and takedowns. He’s very good at not getting hit standing up, he’s a perfect mixed martial artist and he’s going to have a long career. He’s a very smart guy and I have a lot of respect for this guy. I love watching his fights… As a matter of fact, there’s only a few guys I like to watch in mixed martial arts, to learn, and he’s one of them. I like to watch Jake Shields, Anderson Silva, Mauricio Shogun, Lyoto Machida. I like to watch also Fedor and Sakuraba back in the day, the Gracies, but there are few other guys that I like watching for my own personal learning… Shields is amazing. He’s of course the guy to beat right now. He’s fighting at 185 lbs right now, and he’s dominating and beating everyone at 185, and he’s (a natural) 170 lbs fighter. He’s not only an amazing fighter, he’s an amazing jiu-jitsu fighter… As a proud champion, I want to fight the best and Jake Shields is the best right now.”

Like I said, the video is out there as well.

@doberman, Let me bring something to your attention because you obviously don't follow MMA all that well.

Who do you think got all this "super fight" nonsense started after the Silva vs Belfort fight? That was your leader, Dana ( I want the biggest name fights to make money) White. It wasn't until the following day he backtracked a bit and said " of course I'm not overlooking Jake Shields"......yea, ok Dana!

    lol, facts can be refreshing!

You are correct... The media pressed Dana White about the match-up following Silva's victory over Belfort. Its something they have been pressing him about for a long time. He finally said he will make it happen for the fans "IF" GSP beats Shields. As the media keeps pressing, he keeps reminding them not to overlook Shields.

Both of you guys are right and wrong, Dana did talk a lot about that superfight, but at the same time, also said many times that Shileds is not a fighter you wanna overlook cuz he hasn't lost in 5 or 6 years. You guys are being agressive to eachother instead of sharing facts.

Dana has been somewhat dismissive of a lot of the hype surrounding the superfight because he doesn't want an anticlimactic end if GSP loses to Shields. Of course he and the UFC want the fight to happen, it will generate a vast amount of interest in the sport along with millions of PPV sales. It's the fans who've been clamouring for this fight for years, it's only in the last month or so that Dana has really considered it.

Why is he talking about the Serra fight? I'll be surprised if Jake shields knocks him out. Jakes shields hands aren't great.

I guess he's tryin to sell this fight cause no one is lol The ufc is busy hyping a superfight that will probably not happen.

@Lowkickdodger, GSP was using Serra in the context of LOSING. In fact losing when everyone thought he would walk through Serra.

As in, I'm looking at Jake Shields as the most dangerous fighter I've faced because I don't want my ass handed to me again and Shields has the talent to do it!

On the feet he's maybe the weakest contender GSP has faced thus far but he's easily got the most dangerous ground game he'll maybe ever come across. If Shields takes GSP down he's in real trouble. But GSP has stupendous takedown defence and should be able to keep it a standing affair, with him hopefully securing a TKO in the 2nd or 3rd to give him some added momentum going into the Silva fight.

I hope GSP doesn't take time off to be a movie star. I don't want to see him in movies like Rampage I want to see him fight.

Besides it will be like ''ey you ponk, nixt time I teach you to learn raspect, you ear me?'' then he kicks the crap outta 6 guys in Bloodsport 4.
