Reigning Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, who will put his title on the line against Ben Henderson at UFC 144, discusses his opponent, as well as his preparation for fighting in Japan. Edgar admits that it's refreshing to be facing a new challenger, and insists that he's confident in his ability to compete with Henderson anywhere the fight should go.

Frankie Edgar

"Benson is just as good as any of my title defenses, or any of my previous fights. He's a big guy, he's athletic, and he's very well-rounded: good striking, good grappling, good wrestling. So, I have my hands full for sure. I really don't have a set gameplan of whether I want to stand or hit the ground. Wherever it goes it goes. A lot of people say they want to take me down, but it's not as easy as it may seem. I'm confident wherever the fight goes. If it's on the floor, it's on the floor, and if we're standing, I feel confident there as well."

I'm also confident I can do what I need to do wherever the fight goes between Frankie and Ben

I like Frankie, but I prefer Benson henderson. He has stronger and bigger legs. He will take down and kick frankie hard i think

its been said a million times styles make fights, and bend is a nightmare matchup for edgar. he has great wrestling, great cardio, and he is just as durable as the champ.

if i were a betting man i would put my money on bendo.

but i would be sh*ting my pants the whole time if i did put $ on it hahaa.. if history taught us anything its that you can never count frankie edgar out

Seems that Frankie can't get a break from all this Top level fighters

i mean Sherk,Bj Penn twice , Gray Maynard twice and now Bendo

he seems to bethe underdog everytime being the champion

but for the first time since i found myself thinking

maybe this is the time when Frankie may get beat

Henderson is not just stronger or bigger he has some great takedowns , judo trips and leg trips very hard to avoid Bendo taking you down.

also he has the reach and his stand up is way more dynamic than Maynard's and Bj 's pure punching striking , Bendo is a Tae Kwon Do black belt with great kicks and a lot of Reach on the punches too

i don't wan to bet against Frankie but neither against Hendo since he is one of my favorites fighters specially because he is from the WEC

i see a really hard path from Frankie even if he wins he still has 6'1'' Nate Diaz on the line and Pettis , and if he losses and moves down to 145 Aldo is no joke even for Frankie that would be a test.

Edgar should be a FW really and Aldo would be a dream match up for the fans. I think Edgar is a cut above Aldo though and would dominate him but that's just my view. Whatever the reality is I hope to see them meet someday. But at present Edgar is at LW and the champion to boot so as long as he keeps the belt I doubt he'll be moving down anytime soon.

This is Frankie's toughest fight no doubt, I got Bendo for the upset, cant wait to see this fight, because it will go everywhere.

I want Bendo to win but if u break the fight down, Edgar is better than him in live everyway, Edgar has the better striking and way better footwork and his wrestling is better than Bendo's....I see Edgar outstriking Bendo for 5 rounds

I dont even consider Benson winning an upset... It'll be an upset if Frankie defends the belt, cause in all honesty i really CAN'T see Frankie beat Benson, i really can't. Ben has always been tough but lately the dude just turned into a monster... the way he MANHANDLED Miller and Dominated Guida was sick... Its cool that Frankie is confident and i respect that and i respect him as a fighter but Bendo got The Answer for Frankie no matter where the fight goes

Ben Henderson is going to prove absolutely no threat to Frankie Edgar outside of mayce a decent first round because Edgar is a slow starter. His wrestling, striking, and strength are not on the level of Maynard let alone Frankie.

This isn't Frankie's toughest fight to date, and in fact it's the easiest opponent (comparitevely) he's faced in his last 5 fights.

The problem is Frankie doesn't look like a champion. Ben does. The thing is you can't see Frankie's heart. Don't doubt him.
