Frank Mir discusses a variety of topics in this interview, expressing his excitement at being promoted to the main event at UFC 146. Mir believes that his training for a fight versus Velasquez will help him in the potential five round title fight. He also thinks Overeem should get another chance and wants him to remain in the UFC's Heavyweight division. Mir goes on to say that he does not believe that Junior dos Santos is looking to avenge his mentor Rodrigo Nogueira, but rather to defend his title as a professional.

He is very unlikely to out box JDS but her certainly could win. The real question in my mind is will his ego make him try and stand with Junior?

Ya JDS' takedown defense looked top notch against Carwin and Carwin is certainly a better wrestler than Mir.

Frank can't out strike JDS and he is unlikely to get him down. That said he can't out strike Kongo either but he landed that one bomb and look what happened. Mir can win this fight. I personally have JDS in the picks but Mir can win.

And Frank Mir opens his eyes on a canvas realizing it was just a dream, after vicious overhand right of Junior Dos Santos.

Agreed , I think frank will take him down and submit him. I think frank is smart enough to know this . I see him playin safe and do what he does best.

I would think Mir understands that's a bad idea. If not then this fight won't last very long....

I think he will not. He was outboxed by Minotauro Who is slower and less technical than Junior Dos Santos. I believe Mir will find his happiness on the ground. However, Junior has really good takedown defence. I see Mir's game plan will start from putting Dos Santos against the cage, use his weight adventage, and then takedown Dos Santos. Of course, if Mir will be capable of pressuring him against the cage. If not, then there will be a T/KO from Dos Santos.

I would be surprised not that if he wins but if he can survive any shots that Junior lands

I've learned to never count out Mir. He is alot like Nog, even when he seems outmatched or losing the fight he can pull a submission out of nowhere if his opponent makes a mistake.

He will be the first 3 time HW champ if he pulls off the upset.

Mir can't afford to have a slow start against Jr. The last few fights he's been in... his pace at the start wasn't the best. Jr. isn't going to "feel him out" ....he will take it to him from the start. He might have a chance on the ground with Jr. but if he comes in thinking he is going to stand with him.... night night.

I disagree. I think JDS will be very interested in using his footwork and attacking from the edge of his punch range. Frank's wrestling ability against a top tier opponent is kind of up in the air right now, and if he gets surprised and taken down early in the first round because he was reckless, I seriously doubt he'll get up again. He wants to stay clear of the double leg and the clinch, but he's got to know Mir will be looking for them. I think JDS is a savvy enough fighter to try to bait Mir and counter as he comes in.

That said, I think Mir is more dominant comparitively on the ground than JDS is on his feet. I'd actually be less surprised by Mir surviving to decision in a stand up battle with JDS (which he'd probably lose anyway) than JDS surviving under a limb-hungry Mir for 4 minutes.

There is no easy championship fight unless your name is John Jones...having said that all logic goes against Frank.

Mir does actually look kinda thin. I wonder if he's gonna try going back to the version of himself we saw in Mir vs. Lesnar II. He was lean, quick, cardioed up, and ready to kick some ass then, he just got laid on by a gorilla for a round and a half, then knocked unconscious. If he is, he was probably trying to get "cardio'd out of his mind" again in preparation for Cain, but the extra speed would definitely be a boon fighting JDS.
