Don't think Mir will get a title shot anytime soon....he has to beat someone like JDS/Carwin/Lesner to get a title shot n I don't see that happening n even if he gets a title shot, beating Cain is going to extremely hard

How are you guys gonna label that 'weak'? D'you guys think it'll be easy to beat Velasquez? You don't think he should be other contenders? Carwin, dos Santos, Carwin? He has unfinished business with Carwin and that's who he needs to be fighting sometime soon. (5 people labeled it weak)

besides, they had to wait. I know Carwin already had one chance, but now he has to fight for the spot. Mir lost to Carwin once, so Mir needs to fight Carwin once more. Since dos Santos already beat Nelson, Mir should have been fighting dos Santos and Carwin: Nelson. The winners can square off, then that winner can fight Velasquez. I don't know how it got matched up this way.

Why is Mir getting so much hate as of latE? yes he had a bad fight but so what. He is a former champion who has high level BJJ and solid striking. The guy is still a very big threat to any1 in the Heavyweight division

    Frank interviews really well.

No the winner of this isn't number one contender but it's still a really important fight in context of the title. The heavyweight division is a good one to be in for contenders at the moment. Brock's out indefinitely and the SF guys are tied up with their tournament. I think the winner of this fight is only one fight away from a shot. Winner of this vs loser of JDS/Carwin makes the most sense to me. I'd see that match up being for the title shot

So far, the Heavyweight Champ, Cain Velasquez has gone through every one he's faced. so everyone else are fighting for contender status. Look how he kicked Lesnar's a*s and Lesnar admitted it. That's how good Velasquez is. Anyone who wants to fight him, better remember the thing about getting what you ask for, because next thing they'll know, they'll be standing across the Octagon from him. Then what? uh oh!

Yeah, they are on good terms, so Mir is just doing what he has to. Maybe he didn't want to fight Nelson, because of their freindship, but who knows. either way, I think this will be a good fight. Nelson went the distance with a man who knocked everyone else out. He's got a chin or iron. And...he can fight like crazy! I would hope it's just banter for the fight. They'll be back on GQ status afterward.

Mir got destroyed by Lesnar and Carwin so he should not complain about the long climb back up the ladder.

If Mir pulls of the win, he is probably 1 or 2 fights from a title shot--providing the Strikeforce heavyweights are not absorbed by the UFC in the meantime.

Frank Mir is such a great guy , dont get why the hate on him from some users, i understand what he is saying about Nelson , but he needs to realize he fought for the title in 09 and fought for the number 1 contender spot last year so he needs to get a couple together to get to the title again

With that said , i think Cain vs Frank would be an awesome fight!

very interesting because Velasquez would have to think twice before taking Mir down cuz of his bjj , and standing up will be interesting as well , Cain has not fought a great stand up guy as Mir so far.

It sounds like Frank is going to be looking for a lot of knees and kicks in this fight. He was talking about Dos Santos' stand up being limited to boxing. Maybe he thinks he can KO Roy the way he did Cro Cop. Roy has a hell of a chin, but a good knee strike can KO anybody. It can also get you taken down though.

...Yea well, you know what Mir? You should have shown more balls in your last fight with Cro Cop.

And by the by, I wouldn't take Nelson lightly either pal.

Mir is right; a win by Mir will not put him on contender status, but...

if Nelson wins, it sure will catapult him past Mir. That is where Joe Silva comes in. He is the matchmaker. It's up to Silva to make sure these bouts are worth watching and this is one fight that will not be boring. I can promise that. IMO: neither fighter is boring, although I've seen Mir do nothing, instead of punching or trying to submit, when opposed to bigger men (Lesnar II and Carwin). Mir didn't put either fighter on the defensive. He'll put Nelson on the defensive and this is what he truly needs; a fight like that.
