Frank Mir wants Brendan Schaub next, calls fight with Brock Lesnar irrelevant

"(A fight against Brock Lesnar) Honestly right now, probably no. Just because the (Shane) Carwin fight, (Lesnar) didn't look all that spectacular. I think a lot of people might have thought that he lost that fight. And then the (Cain) Velasquez fight obviously, Velasquez made (Brock) basically shout 'Stop, Enough, Enough' before he tapped due to strikes and that looked really bad."

"Right now I’m coming a win off of Mirko (Cro Cop), I would maybe like to see me get another win and (Brock) himself redeem himself, so that way it's more relevant to the division. Not just having the third fight for the sake of having the third fight. But having it to where it actually has some substance so that whoever wins will position themselves for a title shot. I think it has a lot more meaning that way."

"Roy Nelson is coming off a loss right now, but Brendan Schaub looked very good against Gabriel Gonzaga. That would be a fight, as far as trying to move forward to solidify myself for a title shot."

Never one to hold his tongue, Former Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir offers his thoughts on Brock Lesnar's recent loss. Mir it seems is against a possible rubber match with Brock, at least for now. Lesnar himself also recently claimed to have turned down a possible third fight with his nemesis. Both fighters are on level terms, with Mir forcing Lesnar to tap out at UFC 81, and Brock taking his revenge in a TKO win at UFC 100. Mir is currently 5-2 is his last 7, losing only to Brock and Shane Carwin.

As Mir looks towards his next fight, it would appear he has his sights set on upcoming Heavyweight and TUF 10 runner up, Brendan Schaub. Schaub also recently expressed a desire to face Mir, and it would appear both could be about to get their wish.

What do you think, LowKick'ers? Who will Mir Fight next? Who will Lesnar face off against? And do you want to see the long awaited rubber match between the two?

I kinda agree with Mir on not wanting to fight Brock....this will give Brock the chance to fight other fighters in the division and improve his skills against opponents like Nelson, Kongo maybe Carwin again

I agree. It would be silly for 3 of Lesnar's 7 UFC fights to be against the same guy.

I don't like Brock much but I really think Mir is scared to lose to Brock again and get taken out of the picture. His fight with Mirco wasn't anything amazing and Mirco clearly's not the same fighter he used to be.

Brock is by no means irrelevant now but the matchup between Mir and Schaub would be great. Both have pretty slick hands, Mir Obviously has the advantage on the ground (but so did Gonzaga) and we havent really seen Schaub fight off his back yet.

If you watch his run during TUF 10 and the finally, Schaub does well off his back and manages to get back to his feet, even managed to do that against Big Country.

Typical ****iness from Mir. I'd like to see Schaub kick his ass. Saying that Lesnar is irrelevant just proves again how obsessed Mir still is with him. I'm sure Mir still lays awake at night with visions of Lesnar beating the crap out of him.

I think you read the quote wrong - I cant see where he calls Lesnar irrelevant. He says a match up between him and lesnar would be irrelevent to division right now.

I respect Mir as a fighter and typically think of myself as a Mir fan, but sometimes he makes it tough... Its already been confirmed that Brock did not submit, verbally or otherwise. Furthermore, I expect big things from Schaub, but for Mir to pretend that he is more relevant than Brock in the grand scheme of things just sounds a bit odd. Personally, I do not want to see Lesnar-Mir III either, but Brock is still one fight removed from being the Heavyweight champion and his next opponent will be in a great position with a victory over him.

totaly agree with you. mir vs lesnar 3 should not happen any time soon, i think brock would beat mir again the same way he did in the second fight, i'd like to see them coach on tuf 14 or 15, i think that would be a great season, but i doubt if brock would do it.

I think Schaub's speed would be a real problem for Mir. He can easily do what Frankie did to Penn but with a lot more power. I would actually pick Schaub over Mir as the upset

I love how Frank Mir's logic is so ridiculously flawed. After he lost to Lesnar he said it was his size and strength that hurt him. Then when he lost to Carwin he said it was his wrestling that was the problem. He is great at making excuses for losing and now he is saying that a fight with Schaub will help solidify a title shot!! I hope Mir does get a fight with Schaub and gets embarrassed, then we can all wait for another lame excuse for why he lost.

Brock would do exactly what he done to mir in the second fight if they were to meet again. Mir is the heayvweight Paruysian for excuses. Its pathetic. A win over Brock for Mir would throw him immediately into title contention...asking for Schaub next puts him another win at least should he get past schaub before title contention. Brock has looked shaky and t times amatuer in his last two fights but the guy has come from a life threatenting illness and thrown straight back in against in my eyes the two best heavyweights in the ufc. Frank is a ****ing idiot for saying brock is irrelevant. Brock has less than a fraction of the experience of mir yet he rag dolled mir at ufc 100. Personally im not in favour of a rubber mach between these two, id rather see mir vs nelson and a rematch of lesnar n carwin when they bot get fit n ready to get back into the octagon.

IDK if fighting schaub is really gonna help push Mir up the ladder, i think if Mir gets another solid win over someone he should be in line for a title shot, and plus I think Mir would match up really well against Cain, as Cain is one of the smaller HW's, Mir would have the reach and height advantage, and definitely the all round BJJ advantage. Cain will have the wrestling and speed but i could see Frank stuffin the takedowns of Cain as he doesnt possess the strength or mass of Lesnar or Carwin

I reckon the UFC should set up Mir vs Dos Santos,as in my eyes i wasnt impressed by JDS in his last fight, Nelson is tough but Junior seemed like he had poor conditioning, and he's still untested on the ground, he has amazing hands though....

but in the mean time i think brock should fight Nelson, Schaub or Kongo etc to get him some more experience and cage time, and maybe by that time we could see Carwin back, with possible rematches with Mir or Lesnar....

all in all Mir vs JDS makes sense, as Junior's performance against Roy was less than convincing, and either was Mir vs Cro Cop they're both coming off wins though and I see the winner definitely deserving a shot, while Carwin recovers, and Brock gets some more experience

Yeah at this point Mir - Lesnar III isn't relevant, and I agree with Frank that it should happen later down the road when there is substance to it..... although UFC are probably looking at it from a business perspective, and it would sell, but when Mir lost he had to start at the back of the line in the HW division and so should Lesnar - plus I think it would be more beneficial to Lesnar as he needs the experience and it would give him time to improve his all round game

out it on the card with Lesner-Nelson

    with the winner facing

    the winner of Carwin-TBA

and that winner getting a title shot

Too bad Werdum is not still employed by the UFC .. as that would be a nice matchup for Mir.

Mir vs Nelson would be entertaining ..

they had a great grappling battle years back and seemed evenly matched on the ground.

As for Lesnar i would go with a rematch with Carwin.

    im a fan of franks,

but i think he should fight nelson 2 prove 2 every1 that nelson is title worthy, he tapped mir out in practice so let every1 see that big country should be in the pound 4 pound rankings.

if mir wins, give him cain and watch cain run thru him,

he needs to drastically work on his striking if he wants 2 run with cain.

Mir, who I don't really care for, was NOT saying Brock is "irrelevant" as Cassidy would have us believe via the title of this "article." If you actually read AND comprehend the statement from Mir, it's clear he's saying the fight, not a particular fighter, would not be relevant right now for reasons stated.

ohhhh now Mir doesn't want to fight Brock after he loses the belt?!?!? What a bunch of sh*t. This is coming from the same guy who couldn't sleep at night because he was obsessed with Brock. He doesnt wanna fight Brock now cuz he think Brock looks weak after losing the belt. But ya kno what??? Brock would prolly beat Mir a third time. Who the f*ck does Mir think he is to be saying who should fight?! he got destroyed by Carwin and his performance against Cro Cop was utter crap. Mir is one big d-bag that should get destroyed by Schaub and pumped to another league....like Bellator or something

Brock Whooped Mirs ass, and so did Carwin, this guy should learn how to shut the **** up
