Alistair has fought in a cage in japan and he crushed his opponent. Once again Mir is full of shit. Come on now Mir thought Carwin wasn't going to floor him, and he said he was going to tap Cro Cop when he didn't even try to make an attempt to take the fight to the floor.

I agree I like overeem but he sets his punches and side to side

movement is slow he has great skills but anyone with great movement

and heavy hand will make it really hard on him Cain would make it really hard on him...I love the guy but he loads his punches but he isnt a boxer

but a great kickboxer cant wieght to see him against good fighters

I always like Mir , but he just sounds jealous now that Zuffa owns Strikeforce and that the Reem will most likely be on the UFC sooner than the rest of the fighters and with a lot of hype behind him.

Unlike him that has lost a lot of momentum and not being in the mix anymore.

The Reem would most likely get a title fight if he wins the Grand Prix

Overeem is also a high level BJJ fighter who won a Abu Dhabi European open, something Mir has never done. So I think he will do fine.

random testing? there isnt random testing. you will only be tested when you have a fight. havent you heard of drug cycling? and why would he be tested a hell of a lot more than any other fighter? you dont know what you are talking about. you think they will single him out for more testing because he looks so big and muscular? ha ha. wolf you fool.

@bushido. i am the fool. sorry but you are if you think mma fighters are natural then you are stupid. i suppose wwe wrestlers are natural aswell yeah. Dennis hallman even said that at least 60% of fighters will be using illegal stuff, just like in other sports but there are ways not to be caught. And especially in this sport when its not random testing. Fighters know they have a chance to be tested but its only when they have a fight and then its only the main fight and then just some of the others fighters not even everyone on the card. I dont think they used to test in japan at all. I love this sport but im not naive to think these all these guys look like this with great genes and good diets. A friend of mine trains with someone who has fought in a lot of countries and did get 1 shot in the ufc and he already knows the things to do and the best things to avoid getting caught but you really you think im the fool because i say this, its you who is a fool if you think its all natural. come on wake up, how many fighters have been caught already, and thats just the ones who get caught that we know about.

@doomsday. you tell me to grow up and say i should let it go and he has been tested, yet further down here you agree with edub when he says he probably has been using and say quote. ' while its hard to pin point alistair with roids, its EXTREMELY POSSIBLE that while he was training over seas he may have succumb to temptation and tried it'. big contradiction there then doomsday!!

I was the first to question Overeem's muscle gain but after seeing fighters like Mir bulk up (about 30 lbs) in about two months, I pretty much stopped.

Alistair always use to walk around at 215-225 before shedding and preparing for a fight in PRIDE. It isn't far-fetched for Overeem to structure about 40 lbs in two years. In fact, wasn't it Alistair that started the strength and conditioning and weightlifting trend? Five years ago, I don't exactly remember HWs having Overeem's body. They were mostly flabby (Sylvia, Fedor) or lean (Nogueira) or muscular (Arlovski, Cro Cop).

Personally, I don't think Overeem took steroids anymore. And yes, while it is true that Alistair works out with former professional bodybuilders (a sport notorious for usage of PEDs), I think people rush to judgment way too fast. It probably was just hard work and genetics. I mean just look at Overeem's mother -- she's like 6'1. I think she use to boxing or kickboxing in her youth too.

One of the giveaways of steroid use are larger cheek muscles. Overeems cheeks are not irrefutable evidence of use, but certainly indicative of use.

Very good points, and all are valid but a person's biological or genetic make up differ from person to person.

I myself go through the Christian Bale experience. In a month, I can lose up to 20-30 lbs if I cut out all the sugar drinks and fatty foods from my diet with minimal exercise. In return, I can also stack 20-25 lbs of muscle mass in under three months with a high protein diet and 3-4 days of weightlifting (overall hours in a week: around 12 hours). I work as an extra sometimes and it is required for me to be in a certain kind of shape.

Great work in noticing the transformation of Overeem's body -- most don't see it. But to be fair, my frame and the size of my head have gone through a transformation as well over the years.

It's hard to pin steroid usage on Alistair right now, but you're right, it's extremely possible that while Overeem was training overseas he might have succumb to temptation.

The thing that is the most suspect to me is definitely the cranium enlargement. Look at his fights in Strikeforce with Vitor and even Buentello, and look at his face + head now. I'm no expert on the field, and he's never tested positive + all the accusations have been from external sources, so I give Allistaire the benefit of the doubt. The rapid changes in his body and overall physical appearance happened in 2008, which is when he made the permanent move to HW. But he also tried a move up to HW in 2006 and he never changed that drastically (physically), granted it was a short non-permanent stint. I'm pretty sure he will never test positive though, and if he has done them, it hasn't been i the last 1-2 years.

I always enjoy Frank Mir interviews. He's a very introspective and contemplative fighter, who, like his name, is frank, when asked a question. He's also a great color commentator.

I'm looking forward to his fight with Big Country. I hope it's an exciting fight. I hope FM racks up a solid victory; preferably not a decision.

I like Mir, but I disagree with him on this topic.

Overeem could possible be the Heavyweight Champion in the UFC. If Alistair's TDD and Guillotine Choke are up and running then I don't see him being stopped anytime soon -- especially in the UFC.

JDS only relies on his hands in the striking realm.

Lesnar is one-dimensional and can't take seem to take a punch.

Velasquez has a suspect chin and submission defense.

Mir has been struggling as of late -- might be declining.

Carwin's stamina and chin are still suspect.

Nelson is too slow and his takedowns are mid-level at best.

There's alot of uncertainty in the UFC HW division.

Mir seems to fold when a bigger or stronger opponent gets ahold of him. I think Overeem would destroy him. I would rather see how he would hold up against a guy like Antonio Silva or Fabricio Werdum (great grappling match).

I think you bring up weak scenarios, but make a decent point in thinkin that Overeem can be the UFC champ. The guy is a beast, there is no argument there. He is running through people, and can take some punches to shell out his crazy power and KO people almost at will. But lets look at your matchups for a second -

JDS: Junior has the best hands of any HW in the world right now, so even though Overeem can take a punch to give one, Junior's hands might prove too much for him

Cain: You are delirious to think Cain has a suspect chin, since he got smacked several times in the Kongo fight only to keep going and prove his toughness. I also don't get your suspect TDD, you mean since Brock took him down and he was up in like 5 seconds?!

Also, I do beleive the Silva or Werdum matchups are actually bad matchups. Werdum has great BJJ, but would get crushed before it ever hit the ground, and Silva doesnt have the boxing to last with Overeem. glad you're an Overeem fan, but you should watch some old fights to change your opinion some, or @ least get educated some more

I seem to remember Carwin eating that shot and nearly collapsing. After he got clocked, he started breathing through his mouth -- showing signs of fatigue from the punch he endured.

Barely flinched was exagerated obviously but he did not go down, that was a heavy punch from an heavyweight fighter, and he came back and knock him out. He does not have a weak chin, that's all i am saying.

Valasquez and Carwin have the best chances in my opinion.

Junior is too one dimensional, and that one dimension happens to be Reem's strongest area. it's going to take a well rounded fighter with wrestling as their strong suit to beat Overeem.

JDS does have the best hands at HW, but I would give Kharitonov a better chance to beat Overeem based on their respective striking styles. A guy who stalks down his opponents, throws one strike at a time, can take a shot, has great technical boxing and knockout power with both hands. Juniors throws too many combination's, and leaves himself exposed. I doubt he could overwhelm Reem like he has others.

    Barnett's got a shot too.

Sorry, I shouldn't have said that Kharitonov has a better chance at beating Overeem than Dos Santos, what I meant to say was that strictly in terms of striking in MMA, I think Sergei could be more effective against Reem than Dos Santos could.

Also, I'm curious as to why you say Overeem's striking style is susceptible to the counter left hook, and especially the uppercut? Just would like yo hear your explanation in more detail if you don't mind. Maybe I'm forgetting him being hit by em, can't recall, but he does change his striking style slightly for MMA.

I would say that his defense against straight punches is nearly perfect, and if you threw hooks at him he would probably initiate a clinch. If that hook was at the end of a combination, I think he (JDS) would get countered before he could get that punch off. You did say a "counter" left hook though. And you could be right about the uppercut.

And just to add to the Dos Santos thing, I question his striking defense (more so than Sergei's and in general). I do think it It would be a really interesting fight just because of how each guy would game plan for one another. I don't think Junior would use his typical striking game plan, and Overeem could go for a TD as you mentioned. Part of me used to think that JDS's combos could give Reem problems because if he covered up those combination can still squeak through and I don't know about Reem's chin. But I believe Reem is smart enough to know that and an almost cautious approach combined with his defensive technique would suffice.

I've been watching Overeem for years -- don't tell me to get 'educated'.

    - I think you've severely misread what I wrote. I never said anything about Cain's TDD, I questioned his chin and it's quite reasonable. His chin is suspect, his toughness and recovery is not. Overeem is a different beast when coming to KO power as well.

    - Best hands in the HW division? Not sure about that. Like Dray has stated before, JDS might be a really bad match up for Overeem due to the fact that Alistair is a far better striker than him, and Overeem could pick him apart.

In addition, I was suggesting the Werdum and Silva match ups for Mir, not Overeem. And I suggest you watch Overeem-Werdum. Alistair is no slouch on the ground either. He's a very well rounded fighter.

Overeem really needs to obliterate the competition in the GP, and put fear into the UFC HW division. Reem will do just fine in the UFC. Those knees are nasty, and clinching with Overeem is a death sentance. I give Cain the best shot at beating him by using that nasty single leg and setting a relentless pace.

Lets face it the only chance that a striker (Carwin, JDS) is going to beat him is if they get a one hit knockout punch, which I believe Carwin doesn't have for someone like Reem. Reem's striking defence is so tight these days he isnt going to get knocked out with a punch, JDS only chance.

In my opinion the main question here is if Cain could take him down, and if he can keep him there. If he can take Brock down he will most likely take Alistair down so I think Alistair needs to train the hell out f his TDD.

His only TRUE submission loss is to Werdum, one of the best submission grapplers in MMA. This is another question if they can take him down and if they can submit him.

To make a long story short, the one speculation of Overeem's success in the UFC is if he can be taken down.

too many people overrate wrestlers these days.

Overeem has so much fight experience, whether it's in a ring or cage, he comes well prepared for his opponents (especially these days).

Some people here also come off as thinking that Overeem has 0 exposure when it comes to wrestling, that's ridiculous.

Why are idiots saying Overeem is/was using steroids? I'd say that's the last type PED he would put in to his body. People talking about bigger jaw etc.... that's not a side effect of steroids. You haven't a clue.

If there's signs of squarer jaw or more pronounced brow then the likely culprit would be growth hormone. Too much of that stuff & you start to look like Bigfoot Silva.

40Lbs of muscle in 2 years is more than possible for a guy of Overeems stature. The guy is 6'5" & approx 250-260Lbs. Wake up! Anyway, even if he was using PEDs, I seriously doubt he's doing anything that most other BIG heavyweights are not using.

Until he tests positive he's clean. Live with it!

Oh, Mir wouldn't make it through R1 against the Reem. He folds like origami when being struck with any type of power.
