Frank Mir would like to "test himself" against Alistair Overeem

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir, who was last seen taking a unanimous decision victory over Roy Nelson at UFC 130, discusses rumors of a rubber match between he and Brock Lesnar, as well as the UFC's potential signing of Alistair Overeem. Mir says he is open to a third encounter with Lesnar, but admits that he'd prefer to face Overeem if the Dutchman does, in fact, sign-on with the promotion. Photo: Francis Specker

Frank Mir

"If (a rubber match with Lesnar) works out, it works out. I just want to fight again, it doesn't matter who... (Fighting) Alistair Overeem would be pretty cool, if he actually came over. I think that he's a great fighter, I think he's done a lot in this sport - his K-1 accomplishments. I think he's an immediate threat to come over and I'd like to test myself against him."

I don't understand why everyone isn't interested in seeing the rubber match.

I'm with you. Mir has been making an effort to close the one hole in his game, wrestling. I think that with a little work there he could keep things standing long enough to get a KO. Lesner has proven to be an over rated wrestler by being out wrestled by the smaller Velasquez and evenly matched by Couture in that range. Mir with improved wrestling would IMHO destroy Lesner. That said it is all conjecture until they fight so I am very interested in that fight.

Lesnar is over rated wrestler? Couture and Velasques just were better.

Yes, they were better but a wrestler with Lesner's credentials and clear size advantage should be able to dominate them in that range. He had 50 lbs on Couture and at best came up even.

I don't Mir will be given the opportunity to welcome Overeem in the Cage...The reem vs Lesnar will be a more appealing and lucrative arrangement...

Mir could submit Overeem just as easily as Overeem could KO him.

i think frank would beat overeem. better overall game, and im sure he learned not to stand with good strikers since shane carwin punched his head into the canvas

I don't see Mir taking Overeem down and on the feet there is no contest. IMO Mir has a punchers chance against Overeem. I think the Reem would win in the second or third round via KO.

Mir actually impressed me against Big Country .. for the first time in many years. I'm still not convinced how good his chin is anymore.

Reem standing is a bad match-up for almost anyone .. let alone Mir.

But on the ground .. who knows Mir might pull it off.

seeing the same fighters facing each other a hundred times is not interresting... reem facing mir would be a nice welcome to the UFC.
