There's nowhere where I can say that Carwin has a "straight-cut" advantage?... Wrestling? Power?

I wonder if Francis realizes that Shane must have been studying the tape of the Lesnar fight. Shane has the size and power and wrestling skill to do all the same things (to a lesser degree, it won't be like Frank vs Lesnar, a toddler fighting a man, but it'll be lopsided). Shane has the blueprint for how to manhandle Francis. And he has the tools to do it.

Shane's chin is not quite as good as Lesnar's (in that 2nd fight Frank tagged Lesnar clean on the temple in the first, then a standing elbow to the chin in the second, followed by two knees to the chin/face, they had no effect), but I don't think he's going to have to worry about Frank's striking. The fight will go down fast, in to Frank's world where he is at his best with his BJJ, and he will be rag-dolled and manhandled and he'll quit.

And Lesnar versus Carwin will be f'n awesome. Clash of the titans.

He hit him with 2 knees to the chin, and a right-hand to the temple, and a standing elbow to the chin. I haven't seen him say he was "in la-la land", but maybe, it didn't seem to stop from planting Frank on the mat and smashing his face. He was probably exaggerating for lack of anything to compare the sensation to.

Randy also hit him with a standing elbow clean, and a couple other shots. The guy just has a huge melon and it's the fighters with the big heads who can take strikes.

And Mir is now having to cut to 265 because of his new strength and conditioning. Frank is a beast with the skills now.

When it goes down, Francis will be helpless. He simply doesn't have strength or speed to compare, and when it comes to dictating position you cannot compare wrestling and BJJ.

Francsis will panic reach for the leg again, but I doubt we'll get to see the rubber match anyway. I don't see him beating any of the top-4 contenders (Nog might be a close fight, but watch for Duffee to move up the ranks and right past Mir).

I agree with comonson, it was clear to me that had Mir had his wits about him could easily have disengaged from Lesnar after he stunned him and picked and destroyed him from outside the clinch. From what I have seen of Lesnar he doesn't know how to take a punch and reacts a bit like Bob Sap when he gets hit in the face.

He was wrapped up when he landed the second knee, which was the 3rd strike in about 3 seconds. Elbow, knee, knee, and nothing. He couldn't have gotten away, he had to throw it as a flying knee because his other leg was off the ground being held by Lesnar. Also, in the same fight Lesnar took him down effortlessly, then just let him stand back up.

If Heath the big monster gets manhandled like that, Frank certainly will too (unless he gets a submission, which is exactly what he went for right away in the rematch, he grabbed the leg, it's the only chance). I doubt anyone can kamura Brock, or muscle out on arm-bar, and his head would probably just slip out of a guillotine.

Yeah, but you have to keep in mind that Mir has put on a lot of weight so I dont know how manhandled he will get on the ground....I think Frank will control him on the ground. Mir also has better boxing....as long as he doesnt get caught, I can see Mir taking it.

Shane is soooo big and strong though... You don't really think Frank has strength that compares do you?

And I would argue that Shane's primary skill, wrestling, is as important for an MMA fighter to have as kick-boxing is. That's the trend... Submissions depend on your ability to maneuver and control position. Trying to maneuver and control position against a wrestler as strong as Shane, is a tall order. Lesnar held him down and toyed with him, pinned his arm back like he was a small child, and smashed his face in. Shane can't do that, but he can do something close.

yeah, I agree that Carwin is far stronger than Mir, I gues it comes down to what sort of positions come up. If Frank lays on top, he could possibly keep Carwin down and pound him out....But Carwin on top is a big problem for Mir. All the Brock Hate in the wont wont get him out of that

Yeah, it should be a good fight. But, Gonzaga had him mounted, and Shane simply stood up like it was nothing. It's just a powerful tool that wrestlers bring to the fight. The ability to control position.

Really if Chuck wasn't such a good wrestler, he never would have got as many knockouts as he did.

And, I doubt that Shane "hates" Lesnar as Francsis says.

i want carwin to punch a whole in frank's face, but at the same time i want mir to win so i can see him fight brock for the final time,

and it better be the final time because brock needs to start fighting other challenge's, and stop building his mma record on re-runs (frank mir)

He's only had a few fights, and the 2nd match with Mir was completely legitimate. He had the interim belt right? How could they not fight?

I'm looking forward to Shane, Cain, Dos Santos... And Duffee (Todd will be a contender). I don't think Frank is even in the mix, he's not going to beat Shane. He's not going to be Cain (sick-Nog took Frank in to the 2nd round, look what Cain did to Nog), he's not going to beat Dos Santos...

If Shane smashes him, I don't think you can even call him a contender.

i think carwin is gonna take this one. Mir will likely stick around as a gatekeeper after this loss. Mir is a big guy trying to use small guy BJJ in a division full of folk wreslters, he's got bad match ups against Lesnar,Carwin, and Cain just on that alone.

either Mir needs to work on his stand up grappling in order to be able to insure top position(judo, catch wrestling,greco-roman) or take his stand up to another level. i had seen a video of him training with eddie bravo on his rubber guard for the last fight with lesnar, while i knew he wouldn't have it developed into a practical weapon for that fight perhaps he has developed a good neutralizing rubber guard and will force these folk wreslters back into stand up position.

i think mir will dominate carwin, hes better on the feet and has more power than gonzaga so i can see a knockout in mir's favour. Carwins a big strong guy but i think he is a bit over rated. But we will just have to wait and see.

I hope shane knocks Mir the f-- out! Why would we want to see Mir & Lesnar 3? He got his ass kicked in both of the last fights!

Im taking technique over sizer and power here its not always the bigger fighter who wins. I think Mir is to crafty for Carwin. Carwin is undefeated i dont think he has that big dissapointment in his career to really give him that push to the top that he needs.

I can't pick a winner on this one, really looking forward to seeing this.

One outcome i'd like to see is say if Carwin wins this fight, then becomes champ by beating Lesnar, is having Lesnar and Mir coach on the Ultimate Fighter and having their rubber match after the season finishes.
