Frank Mir: I would love to replace Alistair Overeem against Junior dos Santos

"I would be excited if given the opportunity to compete for the UFC's heavyweight title at UFC 146 if the reports released earlier today regarding Alistair Overeem failing his 'A' sample drug test are true. I have been fortunate to be able to fight in the UFC for more than a decade, and it is a dream of mine to become the first three-time heavyweight champion in the UFC. Being able to fight Junior Dos Santos would put me one step closer to that dream." - MMAHeat

Former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir showed no signs of fear, confirming his interest in replacing Alistair Overeem against Junior dos Santos at UFC 146. Mir is widely considered as leading candidate to replace Overeem, if the Dutchman fails to provide the Nevada State Athletic Commission with a legitimate explaination for having Testosterone levels "higher than normal".

Frank Mir's promotion to the main event will leave Cain Velasquez without an opponent. It's unlikely that the UFC will get Velasquez, who's a huge Pay-Per-View draw, off the card. One possible opponent for Velasquez is Fabricio Werdum, who could present a very intriguing match-up for the former UFC Heavyweight champ. Werdum is currently signed up for a fight with Mike Russow at UFC 147 in Brazil, but it looks like the UFC will have no second thoughts in sacrificing this bout for a greater cause.

dos santos and mir then velasquez and werdum - would make great matches - but mir getting a title shot doesn't seem to add up on the mma math.

Dana please Signe Fedor and make him fight Velasquez, he said a long time ago that he is interessted in fighting velasquez ,then put Mir against JDS. I dont think Mir can win, but they are both nice guys and skilled fighter (jds and mir)

Mir is my fav HW but he is going to get murdered. Mir has some good boxing and a lot of power but no where near Dos Santos in either. Even more relevant than those two factors is Mir's chin which is quickly becoming glass.

If Mir comes out possessed and goes full out for the TD, he has a strong chance to win.

He uses a variety of TDs and is usually successful in them, (not in the Cro Cop fight though) and when he gets it down there isn't a MMA HW he can't submit.

I hope he doesn't do what he normally does and try to box (ignoring his world class jits) because I fear he'll go out similar to Cain but quicker.

Dana isn't gonna sign Fedor to fill in cuz he hates Fedor as much if not he hates him more then he hated Kimbo and we all saw what he had to do to get in. If Dana gave a sh*t about mma math then he wouldn't have put Lyoto in with Jon Jones after beating a "ready to retire" Randy off a 2 fight skid, not counting what some people have their own opinion on his first fight with Shogun. It will either be Mir or Cain but i'm thinking a rematch with Cain cuz he's giving all these rematches and a rematch would bring in more money then giving mir a shot.

Kimbo is not and will not be in the same league with Fedor. If Fedor will bring Money in his (Dana) pocket he will stab whoever he as to to make it happen. Dana has no respect for the game or respect for the value of the meaning (on my word).

I agree that Lyoto got thrown in after fighting a fighter that had nothing left for the caliber of fighter Lyoto is. I also agree with Dana not caring about mma.

    Dana not caring about MMA?

Sorry to break it to you but through his hard work he is one of the major factors of where MMA is today.

I'm still wondering how much that had to do with Nog's double hip replacement and back surgery helping his punching power.

Mir gets KO'd easily nowadays. It would not go over the 1 min mark. No contest here

Just bring Werdum in to fight JDS in a rematch. No one cares about Werdum vs Russow anyway. Or bring in Hunt or Henderson, both of them want fights and it won't mess the other fights up.

Hunt's actually a possibility now that you mention it. If Mir was promoted to the title shot, Hunt could also step in to fight Cain.

Not if Mir got the belt! Brock would be Mir's first defense. The Ppv numbers would be off the hook. I'm a Mir fan, but I love watching him and Lesnar fight! These two hate each other.

In my opinion, Mir is the #3 heavyweight and deserves the title shot if Overeem is out. I also think Mir has a great chance of beating JDS, and may pose more risks than Reem would.

I'm not buying the "weak chin" thing YET... because these guys are absolutely massive and it doesn't take much for them to stun each other. I'd blame it more on the simple fact that he eats too many punches than him having a weak chin.

Mir has to stay away from the clinch up against the cage. Thats usually where he gets caught. That or get better defense from that position.

I think his defense from that position is probably much better now. Carwin wrecked his face against the cage, then when Nelson tried to do the same thing, Mir pushed him around like he was a little girl. Can't say he doesn't learn his lesson.

He had the belt, then gave it up because of the motorcycle accident, then won the interim belt from Nogueira (1st fight), then lost to Brock (2nd fight). Interim belts do count, so this would be third time.

this whole thing is a total shock to me. just as big a shock as cyborg getting caught........NOT! It was just a matter of time. This sport does not have complete acceptance yet, and these idiots are going to make the perception to outsiders that everyone in the UFC are dopers.

Agreed. If fighters keep doing this, they will destroy their own sport. Then they'll be no need for everybody to gripe about paychecks because nobody will be making any money. It's not just the sport itself, it's the potential sponsors who won't want anything to do with dopers.

Mir was picked apart by Nog so JDS will KO him. Mir can sub anyone given the right chance but I doubt he'll last long enough to get anywhere near one against JDS.

But in all Honesty....Why should cain get an imdeiate title rematch after a KO Loss? That would mean a lottttt of guys are qualified for a title shot? I mean if you want to use the excuse that cain was injured thats not too much material in your defense. I guess Rashad should have had imediate rematch against Machida? NO....
