UFC.com reports that BJ Penn and Jon Fitch will go to war once again, this time at the "Fourth of July" card at UFC 132. The first encounter between the two took place only a few weeks ago at the Acer Arena in Sydney Australia (UFC 127), ending in a disappointing draw. Here's the report:

Reports of The Prodigy's retirement have been greatly exaggerated: Dana White confirmed today that BJ Penn and Jon Fitch have verbally agreed to rematch at UFC 132.

The welterweights first met in the main event of UFC 127, a number-one contender bout that ended in a draw. "Both fighters look to keep it out of the hands of the judges this time," said White.

Meanwhile, the UFC also announced that the top-ranked Lightweight contenders George Sotiropoulos and Evan Dunham will square off on the same card. Dunham lost two in a row (Sean Sherk and Melvin Guillard), while Sotirpoulos got his 7-fight winning streak cut by Dennis Siver at UFC 127.

UFC 132 will take place on July 2, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It's yet unclear whether the Fitch-Penn showdown will serve as the card's headliner.

I hope Penn vs. Fitch 2 isn't the headliner. That fight was pretty boring.

I enjoyed it, was a lot better than most GSP grapple-fest. Much more competitive.

Unlikely, it can headline show in a place like Australia that the UFC goes to once a year but it wouldn't do nearly as well in Vegas, besides, that's one of their bigger cards of the year and I'd be surprised to not see a title fight.

I hope this is not the main event the Fourth of July card always has a title fight with the previous 2 being ufc 116, and ufc 100, to stacked cards on paper. This has to be the co main event or something.

Obviously you don't know shit! Go back and look at the TAPE! BJ Penn/Fitch fight was very technical! BJ almost sent Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu back to CUBA!

The rematch is good but I rather see COndit vs Penn and Fitch vs Ellenberger or Stun gun and as for G-Sots vs Dunhamn thats a awesome match predicting that it is going to be FOTN

I mean I don't think is was really that boring, I appreciate all fights at the end of the day. But I don't get why this fight should be a headliner especially when none of them are gonna be able to take the belt from GSP. The welterwieght division needs some fresh talent for GSP, honestly.

Ya I agree I won't be too excited to see this fight as a headliner again. As for new fresh talent the UFC just got some in Nick Diaz, that is if they can actually get him into the octagon.

I'm kinda hung up on the rematch. On one hand, it was a draw, and draws are more deserving of rematches than other fights in my opinion, since they are inconclusive. On the other hand, the biggest reason why BJ did so well against Fitch was because he surprised him by grappling offensively. We've confirmed from the last fight that Fitch can take BJ down, BJ probably can't choke out Fitch, and Fitch and hold down BJ as long as he wants (which is forever). Without a big surprise from BJ this time, is there really a point? Unless Penn knocks out Fitch in the first couple of minutes, I think he's done.

Why? We got the point the first time.

If they want a decision "in the ring" and not from the judges scorecard (in this bout), then my advice would be to put the fight at the top of a card (and there's no reason it has to be the July 4th weekend, it could be another card) and make it a five rounder. That will guarantee a decision; Penn cannot go 5 rounds, hard or otherwise, @ 170; not with John Fitch he can't.

Make it a 5 round fight and if Penn can't finish Fitch by the end of the second or certainly the third, then Fitch will finish him on the ground, in either the fourth or the fifth - by, TKO / stoppage. You can literally bet on Penn's gas tank failing and handing Fitch all the opportunity that his "worker bee" self can handle.

And for those that doubt - I wouldn't have given Penn a plugged nickel's worth of a chance in making it out of the fourth (had there been one) in their last fight; Penn was done. He had nothing left and Fitch had all the gas he needed and more, to finish BJ. That, to me, was obvious. Penn was gassed and broken (mentally). He had quite the fight. The bell and the lack of a fourth, is the only thing that prevented Fitch from finishing BJ.

Why have we seen so many instant rematches in the UFC recently? I know it has happened in the past as well, but probably not this frequently. There have only been maybe two instant rematches that I have looked forward to: Machida vs Shogun 2, and I'm looking forward to Edgar vs. Maynard 3. If Jon 'pillow-hands' Fitch could finish a damn fight once in a while we wouldn't have had to deal with this. BJ was mentally and physically broken in the 3rd, and without the element of surprise with takedowns he better plan to work his striking on Fitch this time. As WingChun said, I don't see it being much different in 3 rounds.
