Former UFC Welterweight Title contender Thiago “The Pitbull” Alves declared in his interview to Tatame.com that this time things will be much different in his fight against Jon Fitch. Alves feels that his experience of twelve UFC bouts will be the main factor in the fight:
“I’m thrilled and already prepared. I’ve been waiting for this fight for four years and now I got the chance for the revenge. I like revenges. It’s time to payback. I was too young when we fought. I wasn’t new in the sport but was in UFC. This American system of losing weight, everything else… Nowadays, I’m a totally different fighter. I learned a lot and I am more experienced and a much better fighter when it comes to standing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu… It couldn’t be a better time for revenge.”
Thiago Alves fought Jon Fitch at UFC Fight Night 5, a fight he lost via Second Round TKO. Twenty-six year old “Pitbull” defeated opponents like Karo Parisyan, Josh Koscheck and Matt Hughes to get a title shot against Georges St. Pierre at the main event of UFC 100. Alves admitted that he will use a victory over Jon Fitch as a statement that he deserves another shot at the UFC Welterweight title:
“I’m coming off a loss and I want to go back to the winners list. Beating Fitch, I will fight for the belt again, no matter who holds it. I think St. Pierre is going to win but you never know. If it’s Dan Hardy, I’ll take the belt from him and get the revenge with St. Pierre next”
American Top Team product Thiago Alves is currently 16-6 in his Mixed Martial Arts career, ranked as one of the Top 5 Welterweights in the World. Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch are scheduled to fight at the main card of UFC 111 on March 27, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
