Phil "Mr. Wonderful" Davis improved his unbeaten MMA record to 9-0, this time defeating the crafty veteran Antonio Rogerio "Minotoro" Nogueira via a Unanimous Decision. The fight served as a headliner for the SpikeTV-aired UFC Fight Night 24, taking place at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington.

Despite the result, not everything went so well for Phil Davis during the first parts of the fight. Little Nog managed to stop all four of his opponent's takedown attempts, turning Mr. Wonderful into Mr. Disappointing. The Brazilian veteran also enjoyed a visible advantage in striking, while Phil Davis struggled to find the right rhythm inside the Octagon.

However, the momentum changed when Davis finally got the takedown in Round 2. The young prospect unleashed fury with ground and pound from the top, followed by a series of vicious knees to the body. Remotivated Davis continued with the same pattern in Round 3, once again controlling Nogueira from the top. Little Nog failed to execute his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu game, as Phil Davis cruised to Wonderful Decision Victory.

All judges scored the fight 30-27 in favor of Phil Davis, in what was the fourth Unanimous Decision of his career. The fight against Nogueira could serve as a very valuable lesson for Davis, who still has a lot to work on before he challenges the current elite of his division. Stephan Bonnar could be a very interesting test for the young star.

    ...Predictable and boring

Phil Davis would get eaten alive by John Jones; he's a one trick pony and the trick isn't that great; Ryan Bader would kill him.

I think Bader will struggle against Phil Davis. Davis clearly beat Nog whereas Nog was robbed against Bader. Can't judge from only one fight of course, but I dont get what all the hype is around Bader. Nothing I have seen from him has impressed me much.

    @ Corey

Agreed - there was no way that was a 30 - 27 fight. I had Nogueira winning at east the first round and I might have given him the second, but either way, Davis did not win all three rounds; no way.

I was not impressed with Davis's victory (St. Pierre voice) :-D

He has potential but he needs A LOT of work(especially in the stand up like I mentioned prior to the fight in other posts). He did improve his stand up though from his previous fight(implementing the kicks). Him and Bonner..yeah, that would be interesting. Just keep him away from the wrestlers who can strike for now.

@ Anton, I agree Bonner would be a good test. Davis has a lot of work to do...

I, too, was not impressed by Phil or the main event.

After tonight, I think Nogueira really needs to step back and re-evaluate his position in the division.

Personally, I think he will never come close to a title shot. He'll probably just stay around for some time fighting mid-level talent and eventually lose two in a row and get released.

As far as I am concerned, he has lost three in a row--I think Jason Brilz beat hiim and was robbed.

It is hard to say what is left of either Nog.

brilz was a close fight but both davis and bader easily deserved their wins lil nog just cant keep it standing and his bjj isnt good enough to deal with strong wrestlers.

WTF you would give a guy a round for wrist control? never mind the unanswered punches to the face and knees to the body. thank god you are not a judge

When is Dan Hardy getting cut, that's all I want to know. Did he even land a single punch?
