no, but then again i didnt think he was before the fight.....nog was a step up, and he got the job done while at the same time the fight revealed areas he needs to work on, so this kind of a win might be more beneficial to davis than a dominant win, he now knows what he needs to do to keep on moving up the ladder
He should fight Bonnar, Bader or Griffin next. Just sucks that Bader is signet to fight Tito, but I mentioned him because I think that Tito will get "injured" and is out from that match up.
no he needs to fight at least one if not two of the following fighters first shogun, rampage, thiago silva, rashad evans, ryan bader, machida and quite frankly i am getting tired of guys getting fastracked to the title just because they have alot of hype behind them jones kinda made sense because of the injury and there was no one else. but dan hardy jake sheilds, vitor belfort(his first fight ever at MW in the ufc)brock lesnar, even shogun beating a old coleman and a chinless liddell does not warrant a title shot in my book although he did prove he was worthy of it.
I get what your saying about fighters being fast tracked to title shot and even being moved jogged rankings to quickly.. but besides Dan Hardy the other fighters u named like Belfort and Shogun had legendary fights against the top competition in pride. And as much as I dislike Jake Shields he was strikeforce champion and has won 15 fights in a row and hasn't lost in 6 years so I think he's earned the ass kicking he's going to get from GSP. On another topic though is it just me or does anyone else think the commercial/ad they are running for GSP vs. Shields fight is ridiculous. It is so overly dramatic it seems more like a commercial/ad WWE would use to promote a pay-per-view event.
all three fighters you mentioned are great fighters but vitor had only one prior fight at middlewieght and that was against lindland. shogun ruled in pride but pride was a long time ago and his fight prior to the machida duo were anything but impressive. look jake has done some great things in his career but did his fight against kampmann really convince you that he has any chance of beating gsp or even deserves the shot ahead of guys like jon fitch
i really wasnt trying to take a shot at those guys i just believe that if you want to get a title shot you should at least fight two top 5 ranked guys in your div first
yeah that commercial is absolutely scandless. the first tthing i thought of was the wwe. whoever made it should be rolled up in a carpet and thrown off a cliff
personally, i kinda like it. Ive never been a WWE fan, nor will i ever be. But I think it's cool they are trying a new direction for their commercials rather than the old "This fighter (insert montage here) vs this fighter (insert his montage here) for the so and so championship belt on so and so date"
Personally it gets monotanous(spelling?) and its cool they changed it up. Just like the GSP vs Kos commercial, thought it was kinda cool
I didn't care about the fight until I seen that commercial, it's showing a lonely low key Strike Force Champ fighting the high profile UFC Champ. Shields sitting in the crowd like a stalker, passing up The Super Star with that cold look over the shoulder.
Try having S-E-X with a female, it's a quick cure for male complaining
for real after watching him struggle to take down Lil Nog over and over again I even have to question his wrestling skills, b4 he fought Lil nog he hasn't fought any1 worth mentioning and in his 1rst fight against a known some1 who IMO is on the decline is nowhere near what he used to be, he couldn't do anything but outpoint him no real damage showed me nothing to justify the comparison some people were gving him to Jon Jones. Jones might make him look the worst out of every1 he's fought and he'd probably do it on the feet
I said 2 to 3 fights, because the question asked when he could "challenge" Jones. By then, I think Davis will present a challenge, though not enough of one to actually win.
As a fighter, Jones presents enough unique problems that I suspect the only real preparation for fighting him would be...fighting him.
In other words, it won't be until Davis fights him, loses and has to go back to the drawing board, then fights him again, that he has a chance of actually winning.
I also think this applies to any other challenger, with the possible exception of Anderson Silva.
I think with all this talk about Jones, Jones is going to have to be very careful with his mindset. The moment he gets ****y is the moment he's gonna get KTFO. Two guys i see being a challenge for Jones right now is Rampage(the old rampage) and MAYBE thiago silva, cuz both are tough dudes and see them just coming forward at Jones. Jones is lanky, if you get a good Muay Thai Striker in there (and this would have been shogun if he had the proper gameplan) and u get inside the range, maybe clinch him, Jones will go down. Everyone keeps trying to strike with Jones and allowing him to use his reach advantage. That giant reach just allows u to get inside and still throw bombs and take a good chunk of his weapons away.
i hope this is a joke... phil davis is a very boring fighter, and does nearly no damage. Whats the point of having all that muscle, if it is just for show?
He laid on lil nog the entire fight, most boring main event I have seen in a while.
He's definitely not ready for Jones nor is he even in the same class yet. He needs to go back to the drawing board and improve...especially on his striking(which I've been mentioning ever since his previous fight against Bosch). He has good takedowns and positioning on the ground, however, right now he'd be in trouble against a wrestler(or a good striker with great takedown defense) who can strike.
whats all this phil davis vs jon jones bullshit, theyre completely different fighters. phil davis needs to improve alot if he wants to beat jon jones, hed get decimated right now

This is it, dude.
In a word.... No.
Give him thiago silva if his bans up by then or forrest.

but we all know that shields can't pull off 'mystery moody sulky intimidating man', it's not him, he just looked awkward and forced

I think if the end of round 2 had happened in the middle of round 2, Davis could have poured it on and gotten the stoppage.
hell no! davis is nowhere near ready for Jones. he's to get his striking together before he steps into the octagon with bones
another 2 fights, preferably 3, atleast a top10 and a top5 then a shot
NO.

Davis is not ready for Jones, but who is?
Weak me all you want bitches, but at least say who IS ready for Jones if you disagree.
Rashad Evans lmfao

He damn near put me asleep @ UFC117 & I was 3 rows from the ring

At this point and time, not even close.
