fights 3 relatively top-ramked guys, losses all 3 then decides to go back to fighting bums?
if he has given up on fighting top ranked opponents he may as well retire. what is he trying to prove by going back to fight bums!
So anyone not fighting the top competition should just retire?
Those who disrespect Fedor are ignorant f*cktards.
Olympic Judo Gold Medalist = bum. Thanks for the clarification.
ummm this is MMA not judo...
he is not a judo bum but he is an mma bum.
how many judo takedowns do you see in mma fights?
a good judo background doesn't mean much at the to level in mma.
Judo is grappling and submissions as well as throws and other techniques found in many forms of martial arts, this is Ishii's background...and that doesn't mean he doesn't train other styles as well. He has been competing in MMA very successfully for several years, just not in the US. If you had ever trained in MMA you would understand very well the relevance of the techniques used in Judo.
Well he doesn't really have a choice, all the big names are in the ufc or strikeforce so......
Im fine with him fighting lower lvl competition...I wont be putting him in my top 10 with wins over fighters like Monson Ishii but Im glad hes still fighting, Fedor fights have somthing different about them I will always watch them
If nothing else, Fedor needs to be fighting his way back up to the top ranks to get more wins, build his confidence, and show that he is still ready to fight the best. This fight sounds like an interesting challenge. You don't sound like you know what you are talking about.
I agree but I guess he has to make a living. But publicizing all his fights and who he is fighting (bums) just seem negative. I mean Fedor use to be great but he did not EVOLVE with the sport. Anyone who sees him now and thinks he is still great, is dellusional.
if he was fighting an olympic gold medalist boxer would you say he was a legit opponent just because he is an olympic medalist?
being top of your game in just one discipline does not mean much in mma especially if it's not wrestling or bjj
Exactly. Avoid the UFC HW division and continue a legendary career... of sorts.
Its true he doesnt have a choice ANYMORE...He fought for strikeforce with some pretty good competetion and got beat down. He hasnt developed in all areas of fighting... That is why he is being left behind...
@ p4pfedor, no, not if you are coming up through the ranks but if you have made it towards the top and failed and are at the twlight of your career then yes.
who do you think he should fight?
this guy debuted in 2009 and has since won 4 bouts with only one loss and one draw on his record.
vs someone like mirko or MIr, or Cane... who have had at least 10 fights a piece. this guy is a walk through...
You are just gushing with stupidity.
...as is your friend "irishfighter".
@p4pfedor Well said but I think they should also charge a lot less to watch his fights. Tough guy for sure but not worth 40 bucks to watch.
Have ever you ever won a gold medal in anything? Exactly
He has won gold medal on Nintendo Wii - Mario Olympics
was his gold medal in mma? exactly.
@OscarJoseGuerrero Michael Phelps won 14 gold metals but I wouldn't pay 40 bucks to see him fight.
Yeah thats because hes a swimmer not a fighter. What was the point of that comment? To look like a dingus? He won a gold medal at the 2008 olympics in judo, not swimming so yes I would pay this 40 bucks to watch this guy fight.
MMA?????
Jude is a martial art. So yes hes won a gold medal in something involving mixed martial arts.
and by jude i mean judo.
Ah so good to see fedor back picking opponents again, he will dominate for an other decade !!
I'll read the headline of the result and scrowl on !
You got that right... "Hmmm (while stroking beards in unison), we need to find someone who has as little MMA experience as possible but outstanding credentials in something else that is *somewhat* related to feign credibility. Olympic skiing? No... not relevant at all and people won't buy the hype. Olympic wrestling...No, that's too risky- those guys have horrific training regimens and the best takedowns ever. Judo? YES! No gi to worry about and zero standup- PERFECT!"
How about Fedor vs. SOMEBODY THAT I'VE HEARD OF!!! (And I've been following MMA since 1989).
Mike Tyson had Cus D'Mato, Rocky had Mickey- who does Fedor have? Russian mafia with outlandish beards? Who is giving him career advice? OMG.
Name a HW outside of the Zuffa stable that makes more sense.
ButterBean..nevermind hes in the blob division.....8P
That's exactly the point! He'll avoid fighting in the UFC at all costs, lol. He fought Minotauro and couldn't finish him- but Mir finished Nog TWICE, ha ha. I bet when he saw Mir finish that Kimura last week, he was thinking "I think I'm going to skip the UFC and keep hand picking my opponents." Jeff Monson? Seriously? He's a great fighter but he's done taking risks. Who can blame him? Rickson got out while the getting was good, but only much sooner.
Fujita's fighting....are you kidding me?
oh i just read, thats pro wrestling rules, better question: why is Peter Aerts fighting in pro wrestling match?
I think Aerts got tired of having his face punched.
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tomato Can, official for NYE card in Japan
I got 100 bucks on Hines.
a wise choice lol
He is fighting another light heavyweight in a heavyweight match! Great move! Maybe they are trying to build him up again . . .
Good Luck!!!!!
no respect for Ishii here, people calling him a can and a nobody when he won a gold medal in the Olympic Games
I suppose a track star would dominate football?
They both have to run fast.....yea, I just blew a huge hole in that logic.
Some fake wrestler like Lesnar is big deal in MMA and Olympic gold medalist is a can for some idiots
@Mokoko
Yeah, some fake wrestler like Lesnar who happens to be a collegiate champion. His record was like 106-5 or something like that. What a fake ass wrestler he is.
People dont understand that Wrestling is probably the biggest asset to any MMA fighter. Being a National Champion.....
You cheated Mokoko, thats pretty good grammar, how did you manage that?
Brock is a good wrestler, but he never competed at the Olympics. Ishii actually competed at the highest level possible in the sport.
Oh well I suppose "DREAM" can have more than one definition to the fighters.
Tell me one good reason why Fedor has to go to the UFC.
1. Glory?
2. Recognition?
3. Fans?
4. Another belt?
He had his glory for 10 years, he was recognized by many sport magazines as the best fighter of the decade. He was the champion fo the largest MMA organization for several years. He has the biggest fan base in the world.
5. Money?
He gets paid more than Brock, AS, GSP, Jones combined.
He has enough of everything. Tell me one signle benefit of coming to the UFC.
No matter what he does he cannot please everybody. So, he does what he feels important to him. He fights in Japan and those guys would love to see him fight regardless of the opponent and it is important to him.
To make us happy 8P
I'm quite excited to see Fedor fight at such a quick turn around. Ishii is dangerous but i do agree this particular opponent is probably the weakest competition Fedor has met in a while.
Anybody else notice that Fedor seems to do better in a ring as opposed to the cage.
The problem is that majority of all the best HW's are either in UFC or SF. It's going to be hard to find opponent for Fedor. Maybe Scott can work some magic and get Fedor back into SF, i doubt it but it's probably the best choice for tougher competition if he can string some decent wins.
