Fabricio Werdum: Strikeforce want me to fight Alistair Overeem

"I beat Fedor my last fight. After that, I gained a lot more recognition. Strikeforce really wants me to face Alistair Overeem. I'll fight him, but I feel that now I'll be more appreciated, that's how it is in MMA. They also want a rematch with Fedor. If Fedor gave me a chance already, why wouldn't he give me one now? I feel it's fair. If they pay for it, I see no problem." - Graciemag

Both Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum are planning to make their return to Strikeforce (Overeem may fight at Dynamite!! 2010) sometime this Spring, leaving "The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko seeking for another opponent. Werdum only recently returned to training from his elbow injury, as Alistair Overeem will participate in the K-1 2010 WGP Final in Japan on December 11th. The two met back in 2006, when Fabricio Werdum submitted Alistair Overeem via Kimura in Round 2.

I thought one of the two should of fought Overeem before he fought

Brett Rodgers.........in the past I thought Overeem should fight the next

runner up and he called them out but was rejected... now...

Werdum beat Fedor was fair they never really fought but he won....and Fedor wants a rematch Werdum said no the first time now he say he will

and since Fedor was the golden god of mma, hadnt lose a fight in over 10yrs he should get an immediate rematch he deserves it and dont blame

Werdum for saying no the first time.....the guys last 4 fighters, for the

most part were guys on the down slope of mma he hadnt been training real hard til after the Rodgers fight so he was still clearing some dust

off but now it no BS Fedor has been sparing and training with great guys again insane training he has cleared all cob webs and for Overeem

this will let him know who is the real contender if Werdum wins again

no doubt but if Fedor wins then he get to have that dream fight he has

been wanting for the last 3 yrs either way we will all know who the next contender is with no questions

Fedor vs Reem is just a dream, it will only happen if reem beats werdum, which i really hope he does.

See, there's your problem, speaking of this nonsense idea of "sense in the Strikeforce _____ division."

When has Strikeforce every made sense in their rankings and title shots? What other semi-major promotion in the history of the sport has given a title shot to a guy coming off a brutal knockout loss?

$10 says Herschell Walker gets the next shot at Overeem.

if fedor got subbed by werdum when he jumped into his guard then i doubt overeem will make the same mistake. he's a world class K-1 level striker, so he'll keep it standing and try to neutralise werdum's jiu jitsu.

I don't see Reem GnP Werdum. The fact is if you go to the ground with him you are ****ed. Look at Fedor amazing on the ground, but he got tapped out. If Overeem wants to win he will keep the fight standing up.

I don't think Overeem will mess with Werdum's ground game. The Reem will GNP his opponents and literally smash them...Just look at his last 4 or 5 fights in MMA and K-1...I don't see Werdum going beyond the second or third round with the demolition machine...

Now Fedor is left in the lurch...It's deplorable that such a great fighter is rusting like that, while he should be using what is left in his fighting career to cement his legacy and re-again the world-wide recognition and respect he deserves...

reem would gnp the crap out of werdum. He's good at jiu jitsu, but reem aint gonna be stupid like fedor and give him his neck and arm like that. lol basic jiu jitsu, reem is way too powerful for werdum to handle that gnp

Overeem already was "stupid" like Fedor and got submitted by Werdum.

the logical choice...... make werdum vs overeem happen...... meanwhile give (us) fans the fight we missed out on Emelianenko Fedor vs barnett.... i think these two fights make the most sense.... then after the dust has settled..... (from these two fights) strikeforce's hw division will have taken shape and we can then determine who deserves the next title shot from the Emelianenko Fedor vs barnett fight..... and we also may have a new strikforce hw champion by then too..... strikeforce have (arguably) a better hw roster than the ufc.... it pains me to see so little activity in this great division......

This fight seems really obvious to me. Werdum won't get Reem down and Reem will leg kick this guy into he breaks that leg off.

You weren't there. Not when Pride was around.

Fedor's GnP was like a new animal. A new apocalyptic animal the likes have never seen before. It was unorthodox as well since it was Sambo.

Now, back then, Nog was considered the best. Especially at BJJ. Until Fedor dominated. It's something he would do. He did it in Nog's guard as well.

He's unbelievably sharp on all aspects, standing, grappling or ground. And because he's good at it, most of his bouts consisted of him dismantling his enemies from standing to the ground until he found a submission opening. Just look how many time's he's taken down opponents keeping hold of their arm & end up either, arm locking, arm barring, or kimura-ing them with ease. Or discombobulating them, then unleashing Sambo style GnP until they either submitted from the strikes or recieved cuts too effective to continue.

Don't tell people misinformed bullshit about how unnapreciative you really are.

and his Sambo record is a lot like his MMA record, WAY more wins than losses.

    Great match-up!

Plus anything can happen...if it stays on the feet I give it to Overeem via knock-out , on the ground I give it to Werdum, I believe that his BJJ is good enough to neutralize Reems GnP from inside the guard.

Plus Werdum is also a big guy...might not be as muscled as Alistair but he has a very long limps to keep a good distance in preparation for a takedown.

how could werdum even get it to the floor, he's not explosive enough for a doubleleg and not strong enough to grind it down on the fence, all i can see is a trip from a clinch and they're very unpredictable as both involved end up losing their balance and either can take advantage of it

umm I don't lose my balance when I go for trips wtf? it works out that you get countered sometims, but your opponent must have a great base and a good sense of balance for that to happen

Why is there so much talk and negotiating around Fedor Allistair and Werdum... fight already. I check upcoming events and UFC keeps posting fights for the near future, strikeforce hasnt posted anything in over a month.

I apologize for wanting to see 3 of the best Heavyweights of our time, fight each other... I should have read my viewer contract better which clearly states that I have to watch Dana's boring, decision-grinding, yet well time scheduled matchups.

    Again I apologize...

I kinda agree with you both. Strikeforce has 2 of the best HW's in the world, but they need to fight more. fedor is the best HW that ever lived and it will be a long time until another beats his record. UFC HW's are over rated (Cain excepted he's awesome), but they fight often. Strikeforce now have some depth to their roster apparently but they gotta start making it happen more.

Overeem will gas after two rounds. He's gas wasn't great even at 205. I doubt it got any better, especially now at 265. Werdum is good enough to stay away from Overeem on his feet and good enough to neutralize his GnP for a few rounds, after that Werdum has the upper hand. I truly belieave Overeem much like Brock is very dangerous for a few rounds. Stamina for HW's is their main tool. If a HW has stamina it's scary.

If Strikeforce want any legitimacy to their heavyweight belt they need to make Overeem x Werdum happen. Giving people title shots off of losses does not make sense. Overeem is the champ, Werdum clearly the most deserving challenger, make it happen.

Sweet they're actually going to let Werdum fight Overeem like he's suppose to and then we'll get to see a mediocre UFC reject expose 2 over hyped fighters after another? This is perfect...
