A Lightweight bout between Brazilian prospect Edson Barboza and The Ultimate Fighter 9 winner Ross Pearson has been booked for UFC: Rio in August.

The UFC announced the match-up on Tuesday.

Barboza (8-0) has scored back-to-back victories since debuting with the promotion last November.  After crippling leg kicks left his opponent, Mike Lullo, unable to continue in his first octagon appearance, the Rio native followed-up with an equally impressive performance at last month's UFC 128, where his dynamic striking display against Anthony Njokuani earned him both a unanimous decision win and a Fight of the Night bonus.

Pearson (12-4), meanwhile, defeated Rough House teammate Andre Winner in 2009 to become the TUF 9 champion.  In the time since, he has posted a 4-1 mark with the promotion, including victories over Spencer Fisher, Dennis Siver, and Aaron Riley.  His sole loss under the UFC banner came via submission against Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 22.

UFC: Rio is set to take place August 27th from the the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  The landmark card will be headlined by a Middleweight title fight between division Champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva and challenger Yushin "Thunder" Okami and will mark the promotion's first trip back to Brazil since 1998.

this card is SOOOO stacked. not 1 fight on the card wouldn't be a main event on any fightnight,Versus, or Tuf Finale card or co-main event behind a title fight on PPV, who's going to end up on the undercard? maybe Dana White will put on a HUGE card and air everyfight split on Spike and PPV, Luiz cane is the worst fight on this card and theres still more you have to think may be signed. if JDS can come out the Brock fight unscathed you'd have to think him vs cain on the Rio card would take place. not to mention in Aldo wins next weekend.

Got my money on Barboza as well.

Ross is a good wrestler but I just don't see him winning unless he can take down Edson, and Barboza's wrestling is constantly improving.
