Dos Santos vs Roy Nelson all but confirmed for 117
Posted on May 10, 2010, 11:52 AM by Daniel CassidyOnly last week we learned that Roy Nelsoon's oppoonent at UFC 116, Cheick Kongo, had dropped out of the fight with an injury. While many, including Nelson himself, had thought that Frank Mir would step into the vacated spot, but today mmajunkie.com has reported that Junior Dos Satnos will meet Nelson with the fight being pushed back to UFC 117. The site also reports that one of the fighters have already signed all necessary agreements for the bout with the other expected to sign their part in the next few days.
UFC 117 will take place August 7th in Oakland CA. The card is expected to be headlined by the middleweight Championship bout between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen. A welterweight rematch is also expected between Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves.
Inside the octagon, Dos Santos and Nelson are currently undefeated. Overall, Dos Santos is 11-1, with 4 knockout wins inside the octagon, and a verbal submission. He holds notable wins over Fabricio Werdum, Mirko Cro Cop and Gabriel Gonazaga. He aslo has two Knockout of the Night awards.
Neslon is the winner of TUF 11. He is a Former IFL heavyweight champion. His current record is 15-4. Inside the cage, he has two Knockout of the Night awards, for each of his two wins under the UFC. He defeated Brendan Schaub at the TUF 11 finale to become the winner. In his official ppv debut he finished Stephan Struve in just 39 seconds.
Dos Santos also holds a KO win over Stephan Struve at UFC 95. Whatever happens, both fighters will leave it all in the cage and from a fans perspective, we should be looking at this fight as the knockout of the night, regardless of who wins.

Nelson has really grown on me. He is a good guy and I do hope he goes far, but I dunno if he is gonna be able to handle Dos Santos. Kongo yea, Mir probably, but JDS.....Uhhhhh I dont think so. Who knows tho, it could happen.
frank mir would not lose to nelson, mir is way too quick for em
i think Dos Santos would win but it would not be an easy win, Nelson is underrated the guy has great ground and good stand up, I wouldn't be surprised if he is able to GNP Dos Santos but I will be cheering for Santos in this one
I completely agree with you, I hated him in the ultimate fighter cuz he took the easy way to beat kimbo but I am really staring to like him, but I like jds much more and I'm sure jds will come out the winner and roy will be dreaming of burger king.
not quick enough to stop the head bashing he got from carwin!!!
jds 4 sure 2 win
JDS vs Cain wath is the point of fighting Roy he is not top 10 fighter and JDS got no top 10 fight yet
now comes the bad time for nelson!! dont think he can handle JDS!! after that he will get 1 other fight against mir,big nog, cro cop, yvel, barry etc and if he loses again dana will cut him!!!
dont get me wrong, i like nelson!!! .....but dana not!!!
nelson is a good fighter for causing upsets but im not betting against dos santos man.. he just gets better and better every fight.
To be honest with you JDS santos hasnt improved hardly at all. He throws the same punches and his stand up defence is garbage. I am a martial artist and he will get exposed by someone with good stand up defence.he is fortunatethat shogun or rampage are not bigger because he would get exposed pretty easily. The first time he gets rocked he is the type of person to lose heart believe me at my academy we get guys like him all the time who can hit like a truck but have no heart when they get under pressure and dragged into the trenches
I'm a little disappointed because I wanted to see JDS against Cain, but Roy Nelson might not be a bad opponent after all. I hope Roy is ready for JDS power shots..... I got JDS by power shots TKO
for the last ****in time.... cain is not going to fight JDS because cain is next in line for a title shot, get that in ur damn head..
there is no way nelson should even be considered to fight JDS, he would get destroyed in the first round
True that
Yeah, I guess Dana really hates Nelson, sweet dreams buddy...
lmao to that.....what sucks is that i'm actually starting to like nelson, but when he was in TUF i hated him and when he won i was dreaming of him getting destroyed by someone like Dos Santos or Cain....oh well.
So i guess Dos Santos really just wants to fight cuz in my opinion he deserves a fight that will get him into title contention and not fighting someone like Nelson who just started...so if Dos Santos loses he should go kill himself
honestly i don't think nelson should fight Dos Santos. if anything he should fight Mir. Nelson just started in the ufc and Dos Santos is close to title contention. If Roy wins wins it'll look good but if Dos Santos loses (which i doubt) it'll hurt him and drop him down from a title shot.
I'm a fan of Big Country, but Dos Santos may be too much for him. I liked his chances much better against Kongo, but you can never count him out. This will be a huge test to see if he can make a championship run. I was hoping for a Dos Santos vs. Cain to take on the Carwin/Lesnar winner, but this should be a great fight just the same.
To be honest JDS hasnt had his chin tested yet. He beat a scared werdum,he beat a washed up crocop who would have killed him in 3 minutes 6 yrs ago,He beat a glass chinned gonzaga who got floored by a really light heavy randy.I want nelson to touch his damn chin with a monster right overhand and see Santos do the spaghetti dance. Or take him down and use that gut and blood up his face with a cruxifix.
haha true dat
That belly of Nelson is pure crap trapped in his guts....
What a replacement!
Either guy can KO the other but i think JDS is a much slicker boxer with a speed advantage.
117 is shaping up to be a good card.
