According to report on Heavy.com, Donald Cerrone will look to extend his win-streak insde the Octagon against Nate Diaz, as part of UFC 141: Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem on December 30th.

Cerrone is fresh off a quite convincing victory over Dennis Siver at last weekend's UFC 137, currently looking to solidify his place in the mix for a shot at the UFC Lightweight title. Prior to UFC 137, "Cowboy" stated on numerous occasions that he would like to move down to Featherweight for a fight with Nam Phan, but now it looks like former WEC Lightweight title challenger will stay at his current weight class.

Cerrone's opponent, Nate Diaz, is currently 3-2 in his last five bouts, with a victory over Takanori Gomi just a few weeks ago at UFC 135. Just like Cerrone, Diaz impressed in his last bout, and will be looking to get his bragging rights en route for a shot at the title.

Timing-wise, it looks like Cerrone vs. Diaz will be a #1 Contender bout, since Clay Guida fights Ben Henderson at UFC on FOX 1, which is slightly less than two months before UFC 141. Guida or Henderson will get their shot at Frankie Edgar's belt, while Cerrone/Diaz will face the winner later next year.

No way. Donald Cerrone has the better stand up. He competed in kick boxing for years and was 28 wins with only 1 loss. Where has Nate Diaz competed in stand-up only combat?

My prediction is that it's going to be Fight of the Night because Donald always delivers and with Nate being his opponent, it's almost a sure thing they both get that bonus.

Diaz has better stand up? Are you kidding me, Siver was (or is) one of the best strikers in the division and Cerrone lit him up. He's too good of a wrestler for Diaz to take him down and work his jiu jitsu (which is his only advantage in the fight). This is looking like a terrible match up for Nate, first or second round TKO for Cowboy.

Diaz destroyed the irish hand grenade just watch the fight and see how good his boxing is and his chin. Nate is goin to test cerrone's chin If cerrone boxing gets better he might beat nate but all hes shown in his fight with siver fight was kicks and submissions

Ya and marcus davis isn't that great of a striker, good but not on the level of someone like Siver or Cerrone (and don't bother bringing up his pro boxing experience because it's not like he fought legit competition)

diaz has better stand up? maybe your opinion but cerrone for me has the better and much more varied he mixes it up well with punches, low kicks, high kicks, knees.

This is a step down in competition for Cerrone. I'd rather watch him fight Jim Miller. At least Miller proved he can be consistent in the UFC.

I think Cerrone has had some very good wins and close decisions with guys like Varner, Henderson and his recent UFC wins. I think if he can go to a decision with Ben he has to be good enough to beat Nate. I think Nate will be overwhelmed actually.

There is no way that Nate Diaz is a top contender right now.....Cerrone should be a fight away from a title shot but not Diaz, not even close.

Why not? B/c at 170 he got tossed around? Look at him at 155. Tapped out Guillard, and loss by decision to Guida (title contender). As far as I'm concerned, he is top 5 for it. Smooth, Guida, Miller (still), Maynard, and Nate.

Diaz's boxing will give Cerrone fits. And it will be hard for Cerrone to throw kicks when he's moving backwards.

Awesome match up! I got say, 155 is looking pretty exciting in the next few months.

And if Edgar can beat the winner of Henderson/Guida AND Cerrone/Diaz, it will be time to move him up the p4p list.

So BJ (twice), Maynard, Sherk and the rest don't put him up there already?

What's this guy gotta do to impress you? He's already very high on my list and can't go much higher without being #1.

If he puts a streak on akin to GSP or Silva it puts him ahead of both of them as he fights in a division a million times better than MW and now a fair bit better than WW and he is usually at a size disadvantage.

Not while GSP and Edgar wear the belts. Diaz's are good. I rate Nate higher than Diaz for all round game, but neither are close to Edgar's or GSP's level.
