Don King: I'm looking forward to doing MMA

Dana White has had some choice words for boxing promoter Bob Arum, calling him “a jealous moron,” and a “greedy pig” in the not too distant past. The comments from White were inspired when Arum disparaged the UFC’s first FOX event, saying if they went up against his Manny Pacquiao versus Juan Manuel Marquez card they would offer no competition to him. By the sounds of things, White may have another boxing promoter to contend with, namely Don King.

King recently said, "I'm looking forward to doing (MMA) too. And creating a competition between the UFC and whatever I call the MMA company that I put together," – for more see USAToday.com.

What do you think LowKick’ers, would a Don King run MMA promotion be good for the sport?  Would it be able to offer any competition to the UFC?

Don King obviously doesn't pay attention to MMA or the UFC. He's delusional if he really thinks that UFC will co-promote with his promotion company. Dear Mr. King this isn't boxing UFC doesn't co-promote with any company not owned by ZUFFA. And how serious can anyone take him he doesn't even have a name for the promotion yet.

It's hilarious that he thinks he can compete with the UFC. His first main event will probably be Kimbo vs. James Toney in a half boxing, half mma rules bout, or something equally ridiculous.

competion is always good for businsess no matter who it is. I'm sure there is alot of good fighters out there who would give the ufc some good fights. But havnt got a chance because of how the ufc is monopolized.

Just because a business is doing better than most others doesn't make it a monopoly. They are just bigger with better exposure. There are still other small companies putting on fights.

A monopoly (from Greek monos / μονος (alone or single) + polein / πωλειν (to sell)) exists when a specific person or enterprise is the only supplier of a particular commodity

Anything associated with Don King is a bad idea all around. The guy is a crook! It's really amazing he is still breathing after everything he has done to the sport of boxing and the boxers. The guy is a major douche just looking to draw some attention.

what a scumbag jumping on the MMA bandwagon, I hope MMA doesnt become as corrupted as boxing with his kind getting involved now, but I think Dana will keep the sport clean.

Don't worry bro...Dana and ZUFFA will eventually clean out every promotion or buy them out and the UFC will be just like any major sport (ie: MLB, NFL, NBA) and most likely the biggest in another 10 years

that would be the best thing that could happen to the sport. the other option is to follow boxings business plan and basically let the fighters run the league and just fight who they want when they want. you think manny and floyd could have avoided fighting for this long if they fought under zuffa??

Don King can really damage the sport by doing silly match up and gimmick fights.

@tat...You are right about that, hopefully he doesn't last much longer. I still think, however, his words give some increased credibility to MMA in places where it may not fully exist yet (boxing commissions, law makers, in boxers minds). I don't see this as a bad thing.

King is a scumbag of historic proportions. You could argue that he ruined pro boxing. And as MMA becomes more and more popular, it will attract higher profile carpetbaggers and con men.

King has a relationship with HBO, so he might be more than hot air. But who cares? 10 or 12 years ago he might have hurt the sport, but now? I doubt it.

Look at it this way...the UFC has absorbed or put out of business all it's rivals. Competition is a good thing. And I think Dana and the Fertitta brothers can take care of themselves.
