Diego Sanchez's reason for leaving Greg Jackson's Camp
Posted on July 20, 2010, 03:47 PM by lopresti1UFC welterweight Diego Sanchez has left Greg Jackson's camp after two straight loses and has moved his training camp to Albuquerque Kickboxing & MMA.
Diego had this to say about the move:
"Put yourself there for a minute. You’re an undefeated fighter coming off two of the biggest wins of your career (Parisyan/Riggs). Now they’re bringing in the champion of your weight class to train with your guys? For three months I was telling Greg that my heart wasn’t feeling it. Greg kept telling me “Trust me, trust me, you guys are going to make each other the best” but I kept feeling like their true intentions were to make me go down to 155. I mean most of the Jackson fighters cut a lot of weight and that’s not me. I wasn’t going to do it. I wasn’t bowing down to Georges St. Pierre. I ain’t riding nobody’s coattails. I’m Diego Sanchez and just because I had two decision losses - one while I was sick and one controversial to a top five welterweight - does not mean that I’m gonna give up on my dream, my dream to be welterweight champion. Maybe me and GSP will throw down in Albuquerque somewhere in the future. Dana told me there is going to be a show in Albuquerque. I don’t want to fight him unless it’s for the title. I want him for five rounds."

diego is good but not great, didnt he just lose to some brit? weak
dude didnt u almost get booted off this site for raggin on brits?take it easy yeh??
Brits do roll deep around here hahaha! You say a bad thing about any of them and 40 weaks automatically! Haha I'm just playing. Love you guys..... except Paul Daley.
and this is news why?
diego leave greg jackson years ago!!
this is from like 2007!! poitnless
congrats butt nugget. Anyways, Diego is one positive dude cuz i dont think anyone sees him going anywhere in the welterweight division
I'm pretty sure that the split happened along time ago I remember hearing about it months ago
If Diego left that camp after his first 2 losses then it was after he lost to John Fitch. He has been training with Rebero for a while now doing gi jiu jitsu and i don't know where he trains everything else. But he left Greg jackson at least 2 years ago. It is a shame that he didn't look so good in his last fight but that guy is a warrior and he'll never give up. It may take him years to get to the welterweight title if that is where he stays but don't count him out. No one is more determined and crazy than that guy. Hathaway was good. But we've seen Diego fight better than he did that night.
tht knee in the beginning scrambled his brain alil lol
n also this is recent because he says greg jackson probably wantd him to go back to lighweight n before he was welterweight n fought at middleweight for the ultimate fighter soooooooooooo :P
He might not have those losses if he used his wrestling more. I like watching him though because he comes at you as a fighter. He isn't just a conservative guy trying to get a win. I think it's going to be hard for him to get the title with his style.
"most of the Jackson fighters cut a lot of weight" Um, Georges doesn't cut that much. Sour grapes? Maybe he is looking for a scapegoat?
I just dont see Jackson forcing his fighters to go to a certain weight class. Many of his fighters could fight at a lower one than they are in - perfect example Rashad.
His interview honestly gives me the impression that he is just not a team fighter. He says he did not want to practice with the champion of his weight class - most fighters would be honored to train with the champion. That's what training camps are for - bringing in the best training partners possible. When Rashad was champ you didnt see Jardine complaining that he could train with Rashad did you?
Because of those comments, it doesnt even make sense that he says they were the ones to want him to change weight classes. They wouldnt gave him GSP to train with if he was going to be fighting lightweight.
Besides, after he left Jacksons training camp, he went down to lightweight anyway! That was his decision, not Jacksons!
How is rashad a good example I dont think he could ever get to middle weight..Dude was HW his whole career before ufc....And this is for sure old sine cordiero was with him in SD for quiet a few years and he use to come around trhowdown elite midway now and then....And for the record I think he split kings mma and went back to new mex with who knows who....And gsp is usually at 186 now 194 with his weight lifting..Why did that guy say he doesnt cut weight when he has his whole career....Some of the i can figure it out opinions blow my mind....Why is this old old old news even an article rigfht now????????
Hes not a big LHW, Joe Rogan even mentions reguarly that he could fight at a lower weight class.
Furthermore, he wasnt a heavyweight before UFC. He was Heavyweight just for TUF.
Even Rashad has said that he could cut to MW if he wanted and he likes fighting at LHW partly because he can eat what he wants.
IC....Sounds reasonable.....
And for the record team jackson is way too high on the "Team Fighter" what happend s win alllll the best go there like most have and then they all refuse to fight friends....Who is going to fight???? Its getting out of control..I love the jackson camp but everyone thinks they will be a winner by going there..Yes jacksons fighters win and stick to gameplan better than any..But havnt they been kind of boring lately....I would rather watch chuck liddlells first round losses wher hes really fighting before I watch a whole rashed fight....Pretty damn boring....FIghting not too loose is what they call it right....But on the real wrestling is taking over....And a fan of striking my whole life I respect that it just kind of scares me for the future entertainment....
Don't be scared. There will always be guys like Anderson Silva, Forest Griffen, Cung Le, etc who use their footwork and wrestling ability to keep fights standing so they can strike. People have been saying that wrestling is taking over since Matt Hughes was on top.
How about posting recent news instead of old ones...? Waste of time...
then dnt fukn comment it plus i think it is recent cause diego said going bak to lightweight n he was only in lightweight for a couple fights in the ufc two fights after the fitch lose. sooooooooooooo suk it
mr diego "yes yes" sanchez should go to strike force !!! he has no hope in the UFC.
lmfao he left because they suck and told him he just needs 2 win not 2 fight
also all fighters have a equal chance at winning i dont care if your 30 - 0 u still are just as likely 2 win or lose
I would say it's more like they have equal opportunities but many have less a chance than others that have a great chance and thats why you get guys with 30-0 and 0-30.
but still if that 30-0 guy walks in there in there thinking hes number 1 i dont need 2 train w.e he could lose what im saying it has 2 do with the persons mind set like i mean its truly a mental battle
Yes, there is equal opportunity but not equal chance. It's like my sister has equal opportunity to beat me in a fight but she has about 1% for her and 99% chance against her of accomplishing it at our current state because I am a more formidable opponent. When people are closely matched in skill and ability then this is where the mind becomes a big factor.
