After failing to acheive his goal of becoming the UFC Lightweight Champion, Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez returns to the Welterweight division in a showdown against the unbeaten Englishman John Hathaway. Sanchez is the biggest fight in Hathaway's career, who holds an impressive record of 12-0, going 3-0 in the UFC against Thomas Egan, Rick Story and Paul Taylor.

Diego Sanchez is no stranger to receiving Fight of the Night and Fight of the Year awards, which promises a very exciting fight between these two hungry Mixed Martial Artists. Sanchez will look for a fresh start with a victory over Hathaway, who could find himself as one of the top contenders in the UFC Welterweight division after the final bell (or referee stoppage).

Sanchez is a clear favorite with 87% of fan votes on LowPick, as 58% of the members expect a knockout from "The Nightmare".

  John Hathaway def. Diego Sanchez
via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)
Round 1:  The fight is on, with Diego Sanchez looking for an early aggressiveness. Sanchez goes for the takedown right off the bat, but Hathaway sprawls. They clinch near the fence, with Diego Sanchez still looking for the takedown. Hathaway looks in control, but Sanchez is not giving up on the takedown attempt. Now he released it. Both fighters are centering the Octagon... Hathaway looks a much bigger fighter here, as he controls Sanchez' striking with his reach. Wonderful knee by Hathaway! Diego Sanchez is stunned!!! Hathaway is raining his ground and pound, but Sanchez somehow manages to survive. Hathaway still pounds Sanchez, but he clearly lost his momentum here. John Hathaway is in Sanchez full guard, continues dropping bombs on the former UFC Lightweight Challenger! Hathaway is working really well, he connects with a few elbows and punches... as the first round ends. A clear 10-9 for John Hathaway!
Round 2: Second round begins. Can Diego Sanchez weather the storm? He is counter punching here, indicating on the change of his gameplan. John Hathaway connects with a good punch, but Sanchez responds with some of his own. Diego Sanchez' experience advantage is working in this round. Sanchez looks for the takedown, and he gets it. Sanchez is looking for control here against Hathaway, but the Brit has no trouble standing up. Sanchez is still holding Hathaway's lower body, but he is clearly outpowered here. Stand-up again. The pace is slightly lowered here, with Diego Sanchez having a more cautious approach right now. John Hathaway connects with a good hook, and The Nightmare is bleeding from his nose. Good combo from Hathaway! Sanchez looks stunned again, as the second round ends. A very tough round to call, but I will give it 10-9 to Sanchez.
Round 3: Final round begins. Both fighters know that they should avoid giving the decision of this fight for the judges. The pace is considerably low right now, with both fighters centering the Octagon in a striking duel. Sanchez is looking for a takedown, but Hathaway easily sprawls his attempt and continues to work his striking combos. Good right hand by Diego Sanchez, but John Hathaway looks solid. Another takedown attempts by Sanchez, and another easy sprawl by Hathaway. John Hathaway is in full control here, stinging Diego Sanchez with a very crisp striking. Headkick by Hathaway, 1-2 combo... the Brit is looking very impressive here. Diego Sanchez did not had a lot to offer in this fight. Third round ends, both fighters are bloodied as this bout will go to the judges decision. I would give the final round to Hathaway... he won it 10-9, in my eyes. Yes John Hathaway gets a Unanimous Decision here! Very impressive performance!
