Nick Diaz was suppossed to face Braulio Estima in a BJJ Superfight in Long Beach, California today as part of the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo. Diaz said he would donate his winnings to charity. Unfortunately for the charity in question (St. Jude's Childrens Hospital)and fans who paid to see the match, when it came time to step on the mat, Diaz was not present.

Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com asked Cesar Gracie, Diaz's trainer and manager, the reason. Gracie had this to say: "I don't know. I know he was mad when he was told Braulio could not make weight last night. No one has seen him today. Braulio ended up making weight this morning."

Helwani reported that Estima refused to fight Robert Drysdale, who volunteered to fill in for Diaz. Estima turned down the offer saying: "I came to fight Nick Diaz."

According to Damon Martin at MMAWeekly.com  Estima was angry about the No-Show: “This is a very sad situation for me, I came all the way from the U.K. Came here, made weight, woke up at 5 o’clock in the morning for one and a half hours in the sauna, made weight at 180lbs. I’m here as a professional athlete, Mr. Diaz supposed to be here, all the things about agreeing for it to be for charity, he doesn’t even show up."

Estima then challenged Diaz to an MMA fight: “I’ll be more than happy to show up in his sport of MMA, and I will fight him any time and I’ll make sure I’ll be there."

Diaz will not be able to fight him in a sanctioned MMA Fight while he is on suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testing positive for marijuana after his loss to Carlos Condit earlier this year.

I feel bad for the people or traveled, and bought tickets, to the event, and for the people that ordered the ppv, and most of all the children at the hospital he was going to donate his purse to.

I came in wasted from a night out and was hyped to watch Mr. Diaz fight. Nick killed my buzz.

Diaz once again proved that he doesn't care about much and has ZERO respect for anyone - willing to pass up opportunities to fight (GSP situation) and will even not show up when people have paid money to come watch him or bought the PPV just for him.

That being said Estima was in the wrong for not making weight and he could've accommodated the fans and audience by rolling with someone else who offered to. I know I would have been more than satisfied if he had rolled with Drysdale.

    Thank god for free streams.

I thought this was an opportunity for his true colors to shine through and unfortunately they did. I really believed that a lot of his BS was a front. As a fan I am super disappointed. He was going to donate the proceeds to charity? I mean if charity is a priority then you gotta do it no matter the situation.

I still got him on LowPick though.

Van Gogh was one of the worlds best artists, but not one of the worlds most politically correct human beings... The emotions which drive Nick to excel in this sport are the same ones which create varying levels of outrage in people with more social skills than he has, but less fighting skills than he has...

    It is what it is.

Comparing Nick Diaz to Vincent Van Gogh is an unfortunate and inaccurate comparison.

Van Gogh suffered from bouts of mental illness, so severe that he cut his own ear off during one of them. Van Gogh was a tortured soul who lived in poverty in a mean spirited time, yet he managed to create innumerable works of great beauty and art. If you read the letters between Vincent and his brother Theo, you realize how intelligent and insightful Vincent was.

I suppose what you are saying is that Diaz is also mentally ill, and therefore not responsible for his actions. If you believe that to be true, then Diaz should not be involved in a sport where he received repeated blows to the head.

At any rate, Diaz is no Van Gogh by any stretch of the imagination.

I like it as a loose comparison. Both are mentally ill. Both are extremely talented at what they do. Van Gogh in art. Diaz in martial arts.

If you think somebody with a mental illness shouldn't be involved in combat sports then half then men fighting today probably shouldn't be competing.

i think Braulio Estima should'a took another fighter...i do appreciate he's frustrated that diaz didn't show, not that i'm knocking him for his decision NOT to fight, but under the circumstances it would'a been beneficial for Estima to fight seeing as he's travelled from here (uk mutha-truckers) so's not to have just a wated journey. i think win or lose, he would'a gained alot of respect from mma fan's and big-wig's, it would'a all went in his favour and if he'd won, just to rub more sh*t in Diaz' name, donated the money to the charity Diaz was going to.

F**k Nick Diaz...i do like him but to be a consistant pr**k about things...can't tollerate that BS.

He may of not wanted to roll with anyone else, because he was upset, and mad, and didnt want to take it out on someone else.

Maybe Estima didn't want to risk losing to a lesser name than Diaz. You every think of that? That is why the cat challenged Nick to an mma fight, so he can try and make a name for himself in the cage.

Does this guy even have any mma fights? Anybody? Diaz had competed in BJJ competitions before, but has this guy ever really fought in a cage.

He will probably be in the UFC before we know it.

The other fighter that stepped up was a 6'3 220lb Drysdale..he cuts to 205. And he is one of the best in the world, and this guy just made weight at 180.

Not cool of Mr. Diaz to not show up...that said, Mr Estima is pretty stupid if he honestly thinks he can hang with Diaz in MMA. He would take 285 punches to the face and 35 taunts en route to a 2nd round TKO beatdown.

Estima says that on fight day, which was arranged time, he made weight and Diaz didn't. Also no one say Diaz weigh in at 180 the night before which he apparently did but there was people present at Estima's weigh in to prove it.

Apparently Diaz said the promoter was shady but he should have said something rather then just not turning up.

I really like nick and never cared if he showed up to press conferences and things of that nature as long he came to fight... He now let down all the fans that paid hard earned dollars to see him, desrespected a legend in Estima and all the jiu jitsu comunity... This stoned head mother****er went too far this time and i am sure lost a huge fan base for sure.... Lost me as a fan. So **** you Diaz!

Now Dana can say "You didn't show for you bout with Estima", next time my boy Nick tells him he always shows up to fight. He has fought guys before that couldn't make weight, and destroyed them as a result.

But I wasn't sure he was even ready for something like this when I first heard about it. The kid is going through some heavy stuff right now and maybe some time away will do him some good.

I'm still a fan, win, lose, or no show.

bottom line... Diaz was donating his fight purse to charity, promoter didnt seal the deal so Diaz didnt show up. Thats like your boss calling you into work then telling you "by the way we're not paying you for your work done today"

The boy needs to grow up and be a man. Nick be a professional and handle your business. Your coach needs to take the pacifier out of your mouth and make you accountable for your actions. You are not that great! One of the reasons people know you is due to your bad attitude.

If what Nick tweeted, that the Promoters didn't donate the money they promised to charity, then he had every right to bow out.

If not, and it's just about the other guy making weight, then it could a sign that the pressure of competition is getting to him.
