Johnson suffered a number of injuries during his fight with Ian McCall, and will be unavailable for the previously scheduled September return for the fight with Benavidez. Johnson is 15-2-1 in his MMA career, losing only to Dominick Cruz and Brad Pickett (both at Bantamweight).
Speaking post-fight at UFC on FX 3, UFC President Dana White praised Demetrious Johnson, claiming that the "Mighty Mouse" and Benavidez are the best 125'ers on the planet (quote via 5thRound.com):
“Demetrious has always impressed me and [Friday] he impressed me even more. He improves every fight and [last night] he looked the best in this weight class,” Benavidez revealed while serving as an analyst on FUEL TV’s post-fight show. “We are the two best guys in the world and he is going to be good at everything and I’m going be good at everything.
“I just have to go home and train hard and he has to go home and train hard and I want this. It’s a dream come true.”
