First I'm loving it for the fact that EVERYONE, including Dana is talking about this nonsense "super fight' where GSP, aka Mr. No Chin" is supposed to have even a remote chance against someone like AS while acting like jake shields doesn't even exist! Dana's lil plan of the 'super fight" will be a distant memory soon!
Secondly, I'm hating it because dana comes right out and admits that he feels Nick Diaz is the #1 P4P fighter outside the UFC BUT says he is too "crazy" to be in the UFC!?
I guess having one of his star fighters ( RAMPAGE) go totally ape sh*t with a tricked out 4x4 truck on the public doesn't qualify as crazy but Diaz does.
More of Dana White's diarrhea of the mouth! Dana's cronyism will end up being his undoing in the future.
Hahaha Mr. No Chin? That's pretty hilariously retarded. This dude loses one fight in his career via tko and he's suddenly Mr. No Chin. GSP not only took a beating at the hands of Serra prior to the stoppage, but has taken viscious shots from such fighters as Penn and even Fitch without going out. Hell, he took a good shot from Fitch directly on the chin and simultaneously delivered a straight that sent Fitch's mouthpiece flying in a highlight reel knockdown.
I'm not saying that Silva is in any way comparable to these guys, particularly in terms of knockout power. But what you said is a joke in my opinion.
Kid, Your first paragraph is the best I've read so far this year on Lowkick.
The So called "super fight " would be nothing but a freak show if it ever took place because the little man, on paper, and inside the cage, would obviously get DOMINATED by the far superior fighter. Of course Dana would make a fortune off that event if the fight ever happened, but why else would he want to expose GSP to that magnitude? I wish I knew.
I can't even remember the last time Jake Shields has lost a fight,so for them to automatically underestimate J. Shields ability of winning the fight against Gsp is truly beyond me.
@swamp rat... ur name is fitting cuz ur post leads me to believe that u have the brain of a swamp critter..
First off, GSP aka "Mr. No Chin" according to you, losing ONCE via knockout does not make you a no chin, or else u can count just about every great fighter in the UFC a No Chin.. Cmon man get your head outta ur a$$.
Second of all i disagree, GSP is gaining size like your mother gains weight over the holidays. you see the size of him now? He's gained alot of muscle mass and did you see what Sonnen did to Silva for 4 and a half rounds? Cuz in my opinion GSP is the better wrestler and knows how to apply his weight to hold someone down. That being said, I dont think it would be the superfight everyone is saying it would be. I'm a fan of both AS and GSP but for the average fan this fight would be boring, alot of wrestling and GnP similar to the Sonnen fight altho GSP would be prepared for any submission attempts.
As for Nick Diaz, lmao good fighter or not, hes an idiot. He is "too crazy" for the UFC. If you guys have short term memory loss I guess you would forget why Paul Daley was released from UFC, you really think Dana would tolerate backstage and in the cage brawls after the fight? Cmon, another No Brainer. Ya that has nothing to do with his fighting skill, he's obviously good to be a champ, but he doesn't carry himself like one. He's one of the reason IMO of course, that MMA gets a bad rep. I truly dislike both Diaz brothers so I'll admit I'm a bit biased.
thats correct dana! wow you agree silva is too big and too much for middle weight! and he does not want too make a run in light heavy weight. lol but he would of went too welter weight! lol ! i like too see silva fight cung le! like too see silva fight gsp at middle weight! also diaz is 1 of the best pound for pound in his weight class ! just like silva is!
The reason Diaz can't be in the UFC is just like Dana has said before. He refuses to play the game even just a little bit. Giving the commission the finger. Not passing drug tests sometimes. If you smoke, you just gotta quit for a little while before the fight. Oh yeah, and getting in fights outside the cage. Fighting Joe Riggs in a hospital after he lost to Riggs. Jumping Mayhem after a fight. The list goes on. Diaz refuses to even attempt not being a thug. He would hurt the UFC's image if he was there and kept doing these things. Can't have people getting jumped after UFC fights. Bad for business.
i like that dana recognizes nick as the best outside of ufc cuz ive been tryin to say that since he left the ufc haha.. but refering to you sayin rampage is crazier well maybe but rampage had a breakdown which when you think about it isnt really him bein himself thefore not really his fault.. the reason dana is sayin that nick is crazy is because after he fought joe riggs not sure if to many people heard bout this but nick and joe went to the same hospital and nick fought him in the hospital haha i could picture it too kid doesnt like to lose.. and thats like daley suckerpunching kos after the bell shit like that dana wont look the other way.. although it was years ago and i hope dana will forget about it cuz nick needs to fight sum tougher guys to get his rep cough gsp cough
lol, so many of you here really make me laugh out loud! collectively, you're like Dana White disciple. After he uses certain phrase the disciple will then use the identical phrase. Next time start thinking and talking for yourself.
As to GSP having NO chin. He has NO chin. Ever since he was KTFO by Serra he stopped engaging like he did in the past. He and his camp refer to is as "following the game plan". It more like run as much as you can to aviod hard shot and use your strong points...take downs, jabs ect. His fighting style isn't hit and move, it is run ( out of fear ) and set your opponent up for a quick attack and retreat.
If this "super super looper fight" with silva were ever to come to being and Silva connect just once, GSP will be KTFO. It would make Serra's punch look like a slight tap. Not to mention the many other ways Silva would destroy him.
Face the facts. GSP's muscle mass is already too large for his frame. It's the muscle giving him his weight already. If he ever stepped up to 185, he would be grossly oversized. His natural strength and abilities would be tested by MANY in the 185 division, let alone the long standing champ that is Silva. This coming from a guy who is not a major fan of Silva's but i recognize what the guy will do to GSP.
Well you're right about one thing. GSP going up to 185 would probably have too much muscle and lose some of his quickness. There's no way that Silva cuts to 170 .I think this would be a great 5 round catch weight fight. Especially since dana is talking about 5 round non-title fights anyway.
"only the smarter fighter takes less damage, and inflicts twice as much". Silva uses the same method, combined with counter-attacking. It's not cowardice, only fighters like them reach that level of vision and awareness.
GSP might have 99% chance of losing the super fight, but that 1% is what makes us believe in the guy...remember, "david defeated goliath", the same applies in MMA...happens very often.
IMO this fight does not make alot of sense. I think GSP would most likely lose, and on paper is a big underdog. Even from a business standpoint this makes no sense. GSP is one of their most popular and marketable fighters PLUS he is still very young. Whereas Anderson is like 5 years older and probably wont be fighting in the UFC as long as GSP will be after the fight, so if GSP loses it takes alot of steam out of his career.
HOWEVER, GSP is not stupid. If he is going to fight Anderson, he is going to prepare for it to the best of his abilities, phyically, mentally ect. If he can do well with guys like Nate and Rashad in practice, then there is a shot he can take Anderson, especially when you take into account his gameplanning and preperation. Sadly though, what it comes down to for me, is that Anderson is ALREADY just on another level compared to most fighters, so to give him another clear cut advantage over you (size and strength) is LUDICRIOUS. I beleive if GSP was a big natural MW, lets say the size of a guy like Sonnen or Okami, he could take AS. As it stands now, his chances are slim, but he does have alot to gain, and Anderson has alot to lose.
A freak Show? You do realize it would be a catch weight fight at 175-180 and not at 185 or 170?
So, Why didn't Sonnen the Steroid monkey just get dominated? GSP is a way better wrestler than Sonnen.
Why do people look at Anderson like he is unstoppable? It is a winnable fight for GSP. A very Winnable Fight. His camp is smart, He is smart and Anderson is a ****y F$c^ who has his number coming. Gsp BJJ is waaaaay better than Sonnens and so is his Stand up.
GSP wins by 5 round decision and noone faking loses it won't be a title fight. It will just be for P4P "title"
how does Dana "expose" GSP? lol.
If Anderson is so great, Too lose to such a great opponent it is never a loss but only a great opportunity too test yourself. It will be funny when GSP wins the fight. If Sonnen even had a decent BJJ game he would have beat Anderson.
And I don't get why Dana White keeps referring to this as the "pound-for-pound championship". I'd be interested to hear what people think about that comment.
Fack......I guess with all the wins and domination GSP is on the same level as everyone else. GSP is on another level.
It takes no steam off his career at all if he losses and it rocket Launches him 10000 miles too the stars if he wins. If you loss too AS its really not a big deal.
I understand you when you say if he was a natural MW but the fight won't be at MW, it will be a catch weight. and AS really isn't a " heavy " MW he is just a lanky one. Man, People are counting him out too quick. It is a WINNABLE fight. If sonnen can keep him on his back for 4 and 3\4 rounds, GSP can do it for 5.
All GSP has too do too win a fight VS silva is not get KO'd. His Camp is Ultra Smart and so is he. I think if he goes into a fight with Anderson with the right game plan It is actually a pretty easy win. Silva does the SAME thing every fight. He ends the fight different but he DOES the exact same thing. He dances and prances and gauges your distances and Sonnen Didn't stand for any of the nonsense and took it too him DAMN! Why didn't anyone think of that before? LoL. Silva is like Mike Tyson was back in the day.
I think this fight actually makes a lot of sense. Both fighters have more or less completely cleared out their divisions and there are currently no challenges left for them there (assuming gsp beats shields of course). GSP will be moving up to 185 permanently anyway, and he'll be putting the weight on correctly so he'll have to cut to make 185 like a natural middleweight, so Silva's size advantage won't be as pronounced as some are predicting.
The fight would be between the two pound-for-pound best fighters in the world and will generate a lot of interest in the sport and would be an amazing spectacle. Whether the fight itself is exciting or not, it could decide the legacy of either fighter and would be a major event in MMA history. I sure as hell wanna see it happen.
Best P4P outside UFC: Moussasi and of course, Mr. Fedor (ya ya he doesn't fight often, but he moves faster than I've ever seen Velasquez move. If you stripped his Body fat % down to those of other HW fighters, he would walk around at 205 and would be dominating people in middle weight).
I think a lot of fans don't realize how truly talented Fedor is. I can't even imagine the monster he would be if his body fat was at the level of an average pro athlete. It is really a sight to behold when you watch him fight, him and Anderson. Jon Jones could be like that in the future too.
I disagree with your body fat comment. I have known a number of deadly fighters who carried a bit of body fat on them--not roy nelson level, but some love handles. They worked out and were in great shape and strong, but never seemed to get the last bit of fat off.
They very often had superior endurance and hit very hard. And they sweated so much, you coudn't get a grip on them.
All I can say is beware the sleek looking fighter, because they very often are sleepers--who get underestimated.
I beleive what you say, but I am sure Fedor could get rid of SOME of that fat if trained in a particular way. He also doesn't cut any weight and comes in at under 230 pounds. Obviously alot of HW's don't cut weight, but I can't think of any successful HW that weights as little as Fedor does.
Heck, I didn't mention it because it's such an unreal idea, but Alvez walks around at 200-205 and he fights WW. Fedor could clean out WW, Middle Weight, and LHW. HE has already cleaned out HW.
It is refreshing to hear Dana say 1) Fedor will win, 2) Overeem is great and he wants him and 3) Diaz is best P4P outside UFC. We criticize him a lot for his narrow minded UFC self centered view of the MMA world but here he was being reasonable. Give credit where credit is due.
He did say those things this is true... but his overall tone when doing so isn't something he should be given credit for. I personally don't expect anything more form him as he is the president of the UFC, and business comes first!
Anderson made it clear he was not moving up to LHW.
So since AS won't move, it's up to George to move.
Why didn't someone in the crowd ask Dana why Anderson is not moving down to welterweight? That might compensate somewhat for the height and reach advantage.
It would not be a P4P championship, it would be MW championship.
George seems unfazed by all the talk, so it seems if he gets past Shields, he is game to go. If he fights Silva, you gotta give him props for courage, because he's not stupid, and he knows what Silva can do in the octagon.
GSP also knows what he can do too lol. I also wanna see some pressure on Silva to come down (like he said he would) to WW or at least catchweight. The extra muscle will only affect GSPs cardio and wont benefit him much IMO. Gievn he's already at a disadvantage in this fight he needs to press for this and the fans too.
When did Anderson make it clear that he's not moving to light heavy? I never heard that, and I'd find it hard to believe now that he's already fought twice at that weight..
He stated at the post fight press conference that he has no intention of moving to LHW. He looked the leanest he has looked in a long time in that fight so I tend to believe him.
Yeah, I agree. I really don't see why he wouldn't want to go to LHW either. It is more of a challenge and he has already beaten a former champ at that wt class.
Or he will tap him out in like 2 minutes. Good striker with great submissions versus very good striker with terrible submission defense. I wonder who wins. DIAZ
I like the GSP V Silva fight. I give Silva the edge and think he will get the sub but I think GSP could grind it out too. It is competitive. That said, Neither of them has "cleaned out" their division. At WW there is still the rematch with the winner of Fitch V Penn and Condit at the very least and at MW there is Okami, Bisbing, Wanderlay, Stann and a Sonnen rematch. There are also new guys rising up all the time.
I told you guys, Coker was full of shit when he said he couldn't get approval for non-title, five round fights. There's nothing recognised by the commissions when it comes to belts, they don't give a shit who's wearing what gold - as long as the fights make sense and are fair and the guys pass the exams for being fit to fight, it's on.
Coker should have just been honest and said that commissions don't like him because he's employing dishonest, shady fighters and having them fight rounds of the tournament where there's no drug testing.
He said he couldn't get the commission to approve fighters fighting for MORE than five rounds in one night in response to being asked why the "tourni" couldn't be done in one night. The only thing I remember being said about 5 round non title fights was an idle musing by Coker about maybe doing Alistair's fights as 5 rounders but deciding against it because it wouldn't be fair to the other fighters in the "tourni".
No, he was talking about getting five-round, non-title fights approved and said he couldn't because they weren't for belts. No one ever even suggested that they could do a one-night tournament - what is this, 1998? He said he couldn't get approval for non-title five rounders, and that was patently false.
There's one, and a million other ones out there to match it. You familiar with Google? You can google a tutorial. Weren't you following the beginning of the tournament announcement? He said that desire existed all over, and then when they announced that all fights but the final would be 3 rounders, something smelled fishy. Commissions don't give a shit about belts.
I see what you mean in a sense that they both could lose and in another fight it could go the other way. While in the meantime everyone belittles the loser. I could never see GSP defeating AS by stoppage or sub and so if it were a roundless fight it would most likely be a win for AS as he is likely to get a stoppage or sub at some point. On the other hand if it becomes a decision victory it is unlikely that AS would win a decision considering he is an opportunist and if opportunity doesn't arrive in 25 minutes then he becomes the loser. It could hurt the MW division if AS loses and hurt the record of the champ at WW if he loses making his dominance less of a spectacle. But part of me still wants to watch wether it's good or bad.
You caan't have super fight with Anderson who gets BOOOED in every fight und runs like Chicken.GSP is good in wrestling he can take the fight to the ground that wuy Anderson gona run a round for 5 rounds just like Maia fight.I personaly think Shields is better fighter than GSP and foght better oponents in SF and Hardy and Kosceckh are not in the same leauge with Hendo,Lewler and Miller
how can Dana say Anderson cleaned out the Division when Silva's last defeat was against Okami? Though it was by DQ it still Silva's has yet to beat him.
I think what T666 is trying to say is that Dana discredited Fedor by basically implying that he is fighting a nobody in Bigfoot and therefore, his win will be meaningless.
Dana never argues that Fedor is not a good fighter. He simply argues that he is not a great fighter by stating that "he hasn't fought anybody good in 6 years." When 90% of fighters and a lot of fans consider Fedor the best ever, calling him good but not great = discrediting him.
Agreed. In fact, he said "good fight" then after what seemed like a moment of thought, he said "Fedor, easily." I just dont know what he could have said that would have been an ok answer at this point... No worries, just found it amusing : )
you're clearly unaware of body language and tone of voice then joey
first he asks who the fight is against, trying to show he hasn't got time to pay attention to amateur leagues.
Then when he hears it's bigfoot (after purposely asking the crowd to repeat his name, "WHO?" - as in who the hell is that.
he goes on to say "ooooh that's a good fight" in a dis-ingenous tone of voice sarcastically stating that the fight is a mis-match and silva isn't top competition.
finishing with "Fedor should win /pause/ EASILY".
the "easily" tagged on shows that he thinks Fedor will win, not because of his skill, but the lack of his opponents, so it is certainly not a compliment and it's absolutely fireproof for next weeks interviews - he will have something to dig at strikeforce with no matter who wins, we'll either be hearing how Silva was a can if he loses or how Fedor is overrated if he loses.
Dana's really quite genious, you can't believe for a minute he didn't have an answer prepared for that question hours before it was asked.. in a press conference you can pretty much guess 90% of all the questions people might ask and he's clearly gone through all of them beforehand but manages to make his answers look spontaneous.
He actually said "ooh that's a tough fight... yeah Fedor should win easily. Those are contradicting statements, so one of them has to be sarcasm. He's basically saying it's an easy fight for Fedor - completely disrespecting Bigfoot.
In that situation Dana was either being ignorant or more likely speaking as a promoter and not a fan. If you watch the Q and A, after he says "Fedor should win easily" he goes on to compare that fight to "the same old boxing shit", [saying that they set Fedor up with a can in the first round of the GP just so their star can win].
When it comes to anything that doesn't have to do with SF or other promotions, I have no problem with the way he handles himself.

Swamptrash,
The only thing you have to back up your opinion is your opinion
Prove that your opinions are supportable by answering the following.
Q. How specifically do you know that Dana's cronyism will be his undoing in the future?
- What specifically do you mean by undoing?
- In what future time will this occur?
Your broad, generic use of terminology communicates the fact that you are clutching at McDonalds straws again.
Go and do some of your training, flip a burger, wash a lettuce and please, brush your teeth...

What a great event. I loved listening to it.
Why do no MMA reporters ask Anderson why he is not moving up to LHW?
I am curious--now that Machida is no longer champion--there are plenty of fights for Silva--the P4P king in many fans books.
He looked the leanest he has looked in a long time in that fight so I tend to believe him.
strange that. you'd think he'd want a challenge, what with looking so bored against the middleweight contenders.
Yeah, I agree. I really don't see why he wouldn't want to go to LHW either. It is more of a challenge and he has already beaten a former champ at that wt class.
NICK DIAZ will get KTFO by PAUL DALEY!!!!!
Possible... but I hope not.
Or he will tap him out in like 2 minutes. Good striker with great submissions versus very good striker with terrible submission defense. I wonder who wins. DIAZ
Ok.... that is very possible too haha.
Oh, and Dana, Big Foot would stack up nicely in the top ten of your HW division so shut up.
GSP WON"T BE XPOSED EVEN IF LOSSES!
FACK PEOPLE! HE WOULD BE FIGHTING ANDERSON SILVA!
yeah if he loses he is still up their in the ranks considering his oponent.
Link?
http://thegarv.com/Scott-Coker-We-d-Like-Tourney-Fights-to-be-5-Rounds.html
There's one, and a million other ones out there to match it. You familiar with Google? You can google a tutorial. Weren't you following the beginning of the tournament announcement? He said that desire existed all over, and then when they announced that all fights but the final would be 3 rounders, something smelled fishy. Commissions don't give a shit about belts.
I don't even want the fight between anderson silva and GSP, they are the 2 most domiant forces in the UFC, what do you like about just 1 remaining?
I mean if one of the two loses the one who lost is going to be in the fans eyes be ''not worhty'' and all kinds of Sh#t
Did Dana really not know who Fedor is fighting haha!
If Chael is still associated with the UFC there should be NO reason why Diaz can't be there as well.
You caan't have super fight with Anderson who gets BOOOED in every fight und runs like Chicken.GSP is good in wrestling he can take the fight to the ground that wuy Anderson gona run a round for 5 rounds just like Maia fight.I personaly think Shields is better fighter than GSP and foght better oponents in SF and Hardy and Kosceckh are not in the same leauge with Hendo,Lewler and Miller
when GSP wins, and the super fight happens if you dont wanna watch it dont buy it.
Yea go to your friends who will have it on or your next door neighbor's because more than likely they will watch it too haha.
how can Dana say Anderson cleaned out the Division when Silva's last defeat was against Okami? Though it was by DQ it still Silva's has yet to beat him.
EXACTLY, idk how good but okami has chancee man, he could keep puttin A.S on his backk
like he was doing in the first fight 'til Silva KO'd Okami with an illegal kick from the guard (Okami had a knee on the ground).
Wait... So even when he says Fedor will win, he is STILL discrediting him? Lol, good stuff from T666 : )
Who has Belfort fought recently to get the title shot ?
When he was destroying everybody in the UFC, it wasn't MMA as we know it now.
He is no legend anymore
The truth is that the guy has a poor record, go to Sherdog.
Silva is a way better fighter and proved it many times
