Dana White says he would be pretty stupid not to book Silva vs. Sonnen II
Posted on October 9, 2011, 09:25 PM by Trent Reinsmith
On Saturday, October 8 Chael Sonnen returned to the Octagon for the first time in 14 months. Sonnen easily handled Brian Stann, earning a second round submission victory. After the fight Sonnen ignored Joe Rogan’s post-fight interview question, instead electing to challenge current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who was in attendance.
“Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck,” Sonnen said. “Super Bowl weekend, the biggest rematch in the history of the business. I'm calling you out Silva, but we’re upping the stakes. I beat you, and you leave the division. You beat me, and I will leave the UFC forever."
With Sonnen throwing the gauntlet down, the potential fight was fresh in UFC president Dana White’s mind when he spoke to the assembled press after the official press conference had ended.
White had the following to say about the potential bout, “Those guys don't like each other. I don't know if Chael really hates Anderson as bad, but Anderson, I don't know if any of you saw his face when he (Sonnen) won. He wasn't doing the whole joking around thing. He was pissed.” White was then asked if he was going to make the fight happen, “Probably, yeah, more than likely, yes I'm doing it. I don't like to commit to anything the night of the fights, but yeah, I think it would be pretty (expletive) stupid if I don't make that fight." – for more see MMAWeekly.com
What do you think LowKick’ers, is Silva vs. Sonnen II the best possible main event for the Super Bowl weekend fight card?

I'll start off by saying I want Silva to beat him down and shut him up. I do find Chael's commentary and persona to be interesting and his performance the other night was spectacular(plus he's a great commentator). However, I think Silva has been working very hard not only on stuffing takedowns, but also getting back up(refer to Silva/belfort). That is really all he needs to deliver a devastating victory next time around IN MY OPINION. I'll also say I'm glad this fight is going to happen because I really don't think anyone else in that division will give us the show we want to see(Maybe Vitor, but the Chael thing is way more promising). Path for Silva should be as follows...beat down Chael and then fight some 205ers. BTW..What's this thing Dana is saying about smacking the wife on the a$$?
@phacemon
I don't know how you got out of Silva vs. Belfort that Anderson has been "working very hard on stuffing takedowns and getting back up".
Vitor had one takedown in the fight, and it was after he caught a head kick attempt. Anderson did absolutely nothing to defend it. Belfort immediately went for a big punch on the ground without making any effort to establish position, allowing Silva to pop right back up again.
So basically, he showed nothing as far as TDD in that fight (not to say he doesn't have any) and it's not like he used high level BJJ to get back up - his opponent just made no attempt to stop him.
Silva does have good TDD and ability to get back up - as other fights have shown, but it wasn't good enough against Sonnen - who Belfort is not.
@Mousasi I wrote about his ability to get back up(notice where the parentheses were placed) and not take down defense. In that fight he showed improvements in that area. If you watch you'll notice the reflexes. This is not something you saw in his previous fights. Go look again closely. If you don't see it then maybe you don't recognize things from a trained eye's perspective. Also, please read my commentary in full before you misunderstand what was said. I said what he WILL need and what I have seen improvements in. Not what he aleady possesses nor did I compare Sonnen to Belfort. It's obvious that Sonnen will be harder to stuff or get up from. I also know Silva and his camp have been working with wrestlers to improve his ability in takedown defense AND ability to get up. You can also see it with other Blackhouse fighters in the days of recent.
If Sonnen wins I'm done with Lowkick! I'm tired of trying to understand why people love that loser dope abuser Chael so much
BYE!
You wont be miss....
I wont miss you either bi-curious gual aka Sore Jaws in your leisure time.
SILVA (will probably eat him), personally believe silva was so set on submitting sonnen that he basically chose to submit him to prove a point that noguiera jiu jitsu is effective. silva has fought better than sonnen. im all for chael sonnen, he looked excellent against stann, but if he had the respect of say...a vitor belfort, akiyama, cain velasquez, he wouldnt be getting half the attention he does. i think silva would KO sonnen with ease in a rematch,
Silva will eat Sonnen.
1. Juiced Sonnen could not beat injured Silva
2. Sonnen will have the same game plan as before since it was working against Silva, I doubt that he is going to stand up with Silva.
3 Silva did not know what to expect from Sonnen, now he knows.
4. Every time Silva has something to show, just like against Belfort.
5. Sonnen could not finish Silva for 23 minutes. I doubt that without juice, he can do it now.
i have no clue how you can sit their and actually pump up Chaels tires. I mean the guy is the most tremendous disrespectful scumbag i've ever witnessed in the UFC. He's a cheating trash talking piece of shit theif who in my does not even diserve another shot at the title. Anderson Silva is the G.O.A.T. Wake up and smell the coffee douchebag!
TarrantulaBdawg420: That's just the way it works with these haters / so called fans, man. At the end of the day, the fight between A.S and this loser will end the same way. Anderson Silva will remain the champ until he retires, plain and simple.
Define: Hypocrite: a Lowkicker who calls people a hater because they don't like his favorite fighter but then go on to hate the other fighter.
I'm a fan of both men. It will be a great fight. The pre-fight strategies will be extraordinary. i.e. Will Silva have learned to neutralize Sonnen's shoots? Will Sonnen have learned to defend the submission?
IMO fans would quit whining about personality issues and begin to discuss the merits of the fight or go to the "People" magazine website.
lol its funny this site is called lowkicker bc basically everyone is usually nut swingers, everyone trying to take low blows to each other instead of having intelectual conversations its just an argument of my daddy can beat up your daddy LMFAO not that the fighters are your daddies haha its just a figure of speech

to be technical Chael should of held a WEC belt, before the higher weight division in it was dissolved into the UFC, he gave Paul Fihlo a red white and blue ass kicking, he didnt get the belt because Fihlo missed weight.
The rematch will be biblical#
Lmao yeah you are going to get him to bite lol...kids a moron.
And the fight is 50/50 in my mind. Chael commiting to sinking hooks in and going for subs equals even more trouble for Silva.
I am a fan of both. I tend to root for Chael on this because he's so freaking funny (not the best reasoning by an MMA fan) BUT.....
Here's my concern. By the time the fight happens the world's best fighter will have had two years to learn to do one thing - stuff a two-leg attempt.
If Silva can do what Aldo did the other night Chael is in for a long (or very short) night.
Don't forget that Chael probably has the best takedown in the division. Perhaps not as good as GSP's but GSP does it so well even the best wrestlers go down. Silva is amazingly talented but I don't think he can stuff Chael's takedowns, he did pretty good against Okami, though.
Time is not only on Silva's side, Chael will take the time to learn how to defend a triangle.
of course Silva was pissed when Chael won. he was thinking "oh sh*t I'm gonna get manhandled again"
I think it would be cool to have Vitor Belfort vs. Chael Sonnen first, whoever wins gets the title shot against Anderson.
No.....just no
Silva is crapping his pants. Sonnen or bones jone would destroy show boat Silva.
lets have this fight so we can stop the talking....
well even if chael wins that really holds little meaning in all time best mw, to me to be an all time best you need to talk about the runs people have, anybody can win the belt but how long are you going to hold it thats all that really matters.
Why does Sonnen (5-4 in ufc) deserve ANOTHER title shot or even a non title fight against Silva(14-0 in ufc)? He's only had one fight since and yeah he won but silvas defended his title twice since and won in devistating fashion. Sonnen failed at his attempt. And he cheated in the process.
So much name calling. I love the debating. That's what makes this sport so awesome. And Chael really knnows how to get someone's goat. Can't wait for the rematch and I can't wait to see how much AS fans get pissed. I don't know who's gonna win but I know I will be betting my paycheck on Chael. He will be at least a 2 to 1 underdog.
has anyone else noticed that Chaely only takes people down but does absolutely no DAMAGE at all? who was bleeding and had the more messed up face as if he got mauled by a dingo,Chael or Marquardt? CHAEL! did he do any damage on the ground even though he took Anderson down many times? NO! did he do any damage to Stann? NO! **** YOU CHAEL! YOU WALL&STALL;,LAY N PREY,DRYHUMPING BITCH,**** YOU AND JON FITCH!!!!!!!!
I suggest you watch the Silva fight again and see Silvas head bouncing off the canvas. It is not Sonnens fault that Silva is a cyborg.
I cant say I disagree but just with a lot less anger. Chael does what he has to do to win and I honestly don't think he's all that boring because he stays so busy and he's such a good wrestler. I hope he improves his standup and becomes more well rounded. But I also hope Anderson beats him in that re-match.
Yes, it would be the best fight for Superbowl weekend hands down.I think Silva vs. Sonnen is the number one grudge match going. Jones vs. Evans would be a distant second.
Chael has made comments about Silva's wife, which is going too far, even for him. But then Silva and Ed Soares could have given Sonnen props for his fighting ability, ignored the trash talk and would have looked much better in all this.
But they've said from the beginning the Sonnen doesn't belong in the same ring with Anderson, which sounded silly before they fought, and retarded afterwards.
And for all you Silva huggers who think the fight was only close because the Spider was fighting with busted ribs, Chael did the busting. It happened in the 1st round of the fight. Look it up. One of Silva's trainers let that slip before the "official" version surfaced.
But the war of words is just the appetizer. I can't wait to see these two fight again.
Chael is the #1 contender, so deal with it. Sonnen has done the one thing that no one else has done in the UFC...make Silva look human.
You can yell and scream all you want that he's not worthy, but this is a fight, not the prize for Miss Congeniality.
Am I the only one or did that seem like a WWE showdown lol I was like wtf is chael doing lol....I was just waiting for someone wearing a I Love Silva tee shirt to slide in the octagon with a steel chair and smack chael and then the lights go down lol.
