Shields was the Elite XC welterweight champ and most ppl agree he'd be better sutied to still be fighting at 170lbs so that's what Dana's getting at. So it's basically a guy who can be fighting at 205 against a guy who should be fighting at 170 which is why no one is giving shields a chance

He also say's he has no problem with Strikeforce in a number of interviews. Here he says that his problem isn't even with Showtime, it is with one guy there. So, to get at one guy he is willing to attempt a sabotage of an event put on by a company he has no problem with run by a guy he claims to like? Oh, and he knows that Shields is the middle weight champion. It just doesn't go with the narrative Dana is selling so he conveniently forgets that this is an absolutely legit fight. In fact it is a lot like B.J. Penn fighting GSP so Dana really has no argument.
Its sad for Strikeforce but i agree no matter how good they become their just a middle ground for fighters on the rise, and fighters on the demise. Once a fighter gets good enough in Strikeforce most would jump in a heart beat to the UFC if given the offer because that is most fighters dream to get to the UFC. Strikeforce will invest and promote their best talent just to have them jump ships once they reach a certain level. It really works well for the UFC let someone else develop a fighter with their resources, then take them away. The only good thing for the fighters is that it gives them a home once they get booted out of the UFC they atleast have a few years left in a mid level organization. I like competition its just the reality of the situation sucks.
I'm not really sure Jake is going to make it in the UFC. I don't think he is going to make the UFC better. A lot of fighters can beat him. Just an opinion though. I might change my mind if he beats Dan. Big IF.
Being a mid-level fighter gaining experience in the UFC is better than being champion in Strikeforce IMO. He'll get better, he'll have room to move up.

Thank you Memphis, People who think that competition is good for MMA need to realize something. Competition between organizations is terrible because it leaves to doubt who the best fighter is at any given weight class. The UFC already puts on 12-14 shows a year. They already have the blueprint for spreading MMA around the world. All Strikeforce is doing right now is preventing some amazing fights
Agreed. There simply aren't enough fighters in MMA to split up in the first place. How many pro-boxers are there? Thousands? How many pro MMA fighters are there? A few hundred? I think the entire UFC is less than 300?
The UFC is the best business model, hands down. Many organizations have come and gone, they all tank. It's better to pay the fighters a little less while the sport is still growing, than to bankrupt your organization by paying huge purses. The UFC model perpetuates a long term venue for fighters to keep fighting.

How does that make Strikeforce stronger against the UFC? Lesnar hasn't fought in almost a year and they are already putting an interim belt in place.
I agree that competition is good in all things. I don't want to see Strikeforce make the same mistakes as Affliction, Elite XC and the others that didn't make it. Half of Strikeforces problem is that on the really big paydays that Fedor is fighting, they have to give half the profits to M1 and on top of that, they still have to pay Fedor his fight money which has to be around 4 - 5 million per fight. How does Strikeforce stay competitive with deals like this?
So Dana wants to recruit Jake after he loses to a fighter he didn't want to resign? I guess the only way that can work is with Jake fighting at 170 again.

He clearly says that shields is a 170 fighter, which is true, and is a decent 170 fighter, again which is true. So No he doesnt think jake is better than dan. If jake is on his last fight, then why not give him say a 3 fight deal in the ufc. It makes sense! Also by taking one of strikeforces top guys away, it strengthens the ufc.
