Dana White: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger should've been a five-round fight
Posted on February 16, 2012, 06:22 AM by Anton GurevichUFC President Dana White discussed last night's UFC on Fuel TV in Omaha, Nebraska, and the main event bout between Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger. White admitted the UFC "blew it" by not making a five-round fight between Sanchez and Ellenberger, adding that every UFC main event from now on will be a five-rounder. White also spoke about the upcoming UFC 144 in Saitama, Japan, Nick Diaz's failed drug test, Tim Sylvia's campaign to fight again inside the Octagon, and much more.

dana's right he blew it. Diego has started out slow in his past few fights. I think he could have easily taken rounds 4,5
This was complete BS. What a ripoff. how is dana going to make it up to the 3rd fighter robbed in the third UFC event?
I think this might be the worse that someone has ever gotten robbed. They changed the format of the event to deny him victory
This is kind of surprising. Its obvious everybody wishes the fight was 5 rounds just because Diego would most likely have won. I didnt realize he was still that much of a fan favorite. Dont get me wrong, I like Diego, and this isn't meant to be anything negative about him. He shows a heart that is second to none. What gets me is the obvious favoritism, even from Dana, especially after Jake has been pegged as a "future champ" lately. That being said, I look forward to 5 round main events for all events. It will add some strategic depth to cards and help determine who is really capable and worthy of a 5 round title shot.
I think the fuss about why this wasn't five rounds has less to do with favoritism for Diego than with the fact that we could have seen another Hendo v Shogun type of fight. That's the sort of thing the UFC would have loved to have on Fuel to help build their fanbase and Dana realizes that they blew a great opportunity.
totally agree-whats wrong with the ufc? this was aa main card event....if this was boxing we would have got 12 rounds x 3 min =36 minutes of action
surely 25 minutes could have been done by the ufc...
fans got robbed, and diego got robbed of redemption in later rounds..ellenberger was slowin
Diego is a favourite fighter of mine, always will be, he brings it everytime. But to say diego got robber, he knew how many rounds he was fighting before he signed the fight, its his own fault for startin out slow....no point in sayin he could have won in rounds 4 and 5, jake and diego new those rounds were never gone come....props to jake he won fair n square, if diego wanted to win he should have pushed from the start.
robbed*

these deals are absolutely amazing! great quality clothing at such low low prices. please take my money now, I'm sending my credit card details now!.
Wow this just keeps getting better and better! could you possibly get Anton to sign the Lowkick t-shirt too?
No Shiit Dana! After the third they went to commercial, I thought WTF? 5 ROUNDS! All main events were supposed to be 5 rounds.
Ellenberger isnt as dominant as he likes to think. More rounds and we would have a different winner.
I agree. I feel Diego would've gotten stronger as the fight went on. He had Jake in a very bad spot.
But why just the main event? So many fights to get finished these days with all the fighters being trained in all aspects of the game.
I wouldnt mind seeing more draws given at decision to encourage fighters to try and finish. Like any split decision is basically a draw and more close fights are basically draws when both guys walk away still being able to continue fighting .
Completely agree about the Nick Diaz situation. Regardless of whether you have an exemption elsewhere, if the athletic commission says they don't allow it, that's it, don't do it. Or atleast don't get caught.
They can make up any rules they want, e.g. you have to shave your chest before every fight. And you will have to do it. If that's the rules of the sport then you abide by them, irrespective of whether you are allowed to out in the real world.
I've always been a Diaz fan and even I can tell you he screwed up.
These rules weren't slipped in last week. All the fighters know whats allowed and if they don't they're stupid.
and how come it wasn't Dana douche???
didn't know Herman pulled all those things,LMAO!!!!
Funny thing about spammers....their morals are so low they sneak into forums and vlogs and blow up everything, then actually think you would trust these people with a credit card lol...may you and your spam burn to a sizzle.
