Dana White "Overeem will take over as the best"
Posted on July 2, 2010, 05:27 PM by HipHopMMAAfter a quiet few days, UFC President Dana White is continuing his full-court press in the media following Fedor Emelianenko's shocking submission loss to Fabrico Werdum last weekend, challenging UFC haters to find a new "best fighter in the world" and telling radio station 106.7 The Fan that he expects Alistair Overeem to become the one that those fans flock to now that "The Last Emperor" has fallen;
"Here we go. Alistair Overeem is gonna be the new guy? Alistsair Overeem got knocked out by Chuck Liddell at 205. You know what’s funny? Because we don’t have him signed he’ll be the new guy. The guy that Chuck knocked out at 205. All the UFC haters will be like, ‘oh yeah, this guy is the best.’ And all the idiot websites will rank him the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world."
Overeem and Liddell fought in PRIDE in the 2003 Middleweight Grand Prix Quarterfinal with Liddell scoring a first-round knockout victory. Though Overeem went through a stretch of four losses in five fights in the final days of PRIDE and in his final days as a Light Heavyweight fighter, "The Demolition Man" has since gone 9-1 with one no contest, scoring three knockouts and six submissions in that stretch.
Though Overeem and the UFC have been rumored to have had negotiations in the past, there has not been the same clamoring for him to join the roster that there was in the past for Emelianenko. Whether White's prophecy comes true and Overeem becomes the new "chosen one" of hardcore fans and UFC foes alike remains to be seen, but rest assured that if he does, White will levy more attacks in the future.

Anderson Silva lost his first match and last lost in 2006. Overeem last lost in 2007. It is safe to say both fighters have come a long way. Saying he lost a fight to Chuck back in 2003 is stupid. A lot has changed since then.
Agreed.
Overeem would knock Chuck out silly if the ever fought again.
*** They ***
Overeem ain't 205lbs anymore. Dana White makes an idiot of himself everytime he opens his mouth lately.
People shoudlnt care what Dana thinks so much. Hes just another guy. And hes a business man, of course hes not going to hype up his competition.
Your right ....BUT, he's the Man on top , the big cheese , the don king of MMA without the 2 murders, what Dana says pretty much goes.
Believing a business man is worse than believing a politician.
How is it "What Dana says goes"? So because Dana doesnt think Overeem is the best P4P that makes it true?
That's just preposterous.
Whats entertaining is the ridiculous accusations, like "Dana White is continuing his full-court press" and "rest assured that if he does, White will levy more attacks in the future." Its just kinda misguided. Its not as if Dana White seeks out those conversations. If he wasn't asked the questions then he wouldn't be giving the answers. Its as if people feel he should lie to spare the feelings of fans who disagree.
Alistar Overeem does indeed have it all together now in skill, experience and size to become the top heavy weight in the world and, even rank very high in the PvP rating. Alistar was underweight and not in his prime when Chuck and Shogun beat him as a LHW. It's a serious mistake to judge his abilities today from fights that long ago in a different weight class and experience level.
My hope is that Dana White will be somewhat flexible in going after Alistar by giving him the opportunity to compete both in the UFC and K1. It would be great for MMA and the UFC to have Alistar continue in K1 as well as MMA.
I'm on the Alistar Overeem War Wagon... I have mentioned before on this forum that I truly believe that Alistar Overeem will be the fighter that cleans up outside the UFC (beating Fabrico Werdum, Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnet) then will go into the UFC to, once and for all, be the first completely undisputed heavy weight champion of MMA!
he knows overeem aint giving up k1 so he doesnt care about burning some negotiation bridges :)
dana seems to let up a bit in his stance about not letting fighters compete in other sports james toney will still be able to box, they were going to allow fedor to compete in sambo. so it is possible that they would allow allistar to compete in k-1
Signing Dana to a one fight contract. Dana is a mouth.
