Dana White: JDS and Cain Velasquez is going to be a War
Posted on September 4, 2011, 06:11 AM by Anton GurevichFresh off his big announcement last Friday, UFC President Dana White once again shared thoughts about the upcoming UFC Heavyweight title bout between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. The fight was moved from the stacked UFC 139 fight card in San Jose, California to UFC on Fox 1, which will take place one week earlier at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on November 12th. According to White, the fight between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez is going to deliver a lot of excitement to the millions of fans tuning in to FOX Sports, unlike the hypothetical Boxing bout involving one of the Klitschko brothers.
Here's the transcript of what Dana White had to say (props: Mike Fagan of BloodyElbow.com):
It's our first time ever, as far as I'm concerned, on mainstream television, on the biggest, baddest network in the United States. You have to put your best foot forward, and we have to go with the most prestigous championship in all of sports, the heavyweight championship, the heavyweight title. But more important than that, is actually, to say that, that's like saying if we were in boxing, we'd be throwing the Klitschkos in there, which would put everybody to sleep. You'd have all these millions of people tune in, and go to sleep in the first two-and-a-half minutes of the fight. These two, Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos, are going to go to war. It's going to be an incredible fight, and it was the absolute right fight to make for the first fight on Fox.
Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos share a combined number of 19 finishes in 23 career bouts. Velasquez finished four of his last five opponents (Nogueira, Lesnar, Rothwell, Stojnic), while dos Santos paved his way to a shot at the title with 3 out of 5 (Gonzaga, Yvel, Cro Cop).

I want Jds to win so bad though i want Cain to win just as bad!!
God damnit! but in all seriousness i think Junior will get the knockout ,
Actually no, Cain will ground and pound to a tko.
AAAAAAAARGH I GIVE UP!
Anyone feel like this fight probably won't live up to the hype? Not that this fight won't be incredible, it's just that I'm pretty sure they'd have to sprout wings and fly about whilst firing laser beams from their eyes to live up to the amount of hype the UFC's giving this fight
kidding aside, i agree with this - just imagine how the (new) audience would react to a 5-round decision win by Cain via domination by wrestling -
that being said; i'd like to see Cain and JDS go back and forth with some technical striking and wrestling, and Cain slightly dominating the 1st round - then an out of the blue TKO by JDS on the 2nd round.
I'm sure everyone is going to appreciate a technical fight with a twist in the end.
Interestingly I can see this going the other way. Cain seems very mindful of putting on a good show. I can see him coming out and boxing with JDS in the early rounds, being somewhat off the pace and getting caught then in the later rounds wrestling his way to a tko or decision.
This fight's hugely exciting though because tbh that's just guesswork, this fight could literally end any way, I can't wait.
All this hype and eyes on these 2 fighters is crazy! The fight is gonna be crazy!I see them going all out.Even though the title on the line.JDS has been waiting a while for this opportunity.I dont see him disappointing.Nothing against Cain however.
i like them both, but honestly, i think cain's pace and cardio will prevail...valesquez by dinner roll k.o.
Flying or flash dinner roll ko?
Cain is not going to lay on the guy. He is going to do what has been doing using everything. Which is what he needs to display on the audience and to beat JDS.
There is also another possibility that the UFC seems to overlook, but is quite possible with these two. Round 1 starts and in the 2nd exchange one of them KO's the other and it is all over before it has started.
That could definitely happen. They haven't overlooked it. As Dana just said, if it ends early, they will replay the best fight(s) from the undercard. I imagine they'll also have the wiggle room of brief commentating segments to sort the film out quickly.
The most important element in this fight, is JDS takedown defense, that's what will truly be tested and make the difference. Both have amazing standup, energy, and stamina.
jds takedown defense and cains chin! im sure he can take a good punch but this is jds
Cain > JDS
when someone has as much hype as cain does nothing even matters, when jds beats him people will just blame the layoff, or some injury, you people will find an excuse. his rank will barly dorp in the comunity rankings list, its fedor all over again...
Really? From what I've read peope are already saying Cain is all hype and JDS is going to beat him. I guess it all depends on who you like, if your favorite fighter loses your going to come up with some excuse, am I right?
If Cain could take down Lesnar, he can take down Dos Santos for sure. Ground and pound all day!
I am looking forward to this fight--and I like both fighters.
JDS is going to be hard to take down--at least in early rounds. In the Carwin fight--JDS wisely kept to the outside and peppered shots with excellent technical boxing. That's Cayenne pepper BTW.
JDS will avoid the takedown and use his excellent footwork to dance out of takedown range.
Cain needs to seriously engage JDS with his striking in order to set up the takedown. Cain needs to weather the storm in early rounds, as I believe his cardio will be slightly better than Junior's.
Like most commentators, I give JDS the edge in stand-up, but Cain has heavy and fast hands--and if he catches Dos Santos--he will take him down in a flash--and GnP.
I don't know anything about JDS's ground game since he obviously prefers to stand and box--with few kicks or elbows.
On the surface--it appears Cain is a more complete MMA fighter--but JDS proved in the Carwin fight that he has great takedown defense and can even perform a takedown himself.
I excpected Carwin to do much better than he did, but JDS steamrolled him.
This will be a great fight--and I am pumped it will be on Fox for free. This is a very savvy move by White and Fertita since neither Cain nor Dos Santos's would draw many casual MMA fans to a PPV anyway..at least, not yet.
