UFC President Dana White discussed the highly-entertaining UFC 115: Liddell vs Franklin event, stating that the legendary UFC Hall of Famer Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell will not fight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship ever again. Chuck Liddell was knocked out for the third consecutive time, this time by "The Ace" Rich Franklin, despite showing up in good form for the fight.

Also, Dana White touched the subjects of Mirko Cro Cop, Pat Barry and Jake Shields. UFC President addressed about the controversy in the fight between Matt Wiman and Mac Danzig, claiming that the Athletic Commissions should rethink the level of refereeing in Mixed Martial Arts.

I know what you can do get better refereeing in the UFC, do whatever you need to do to patch things up with the Actual greatest ref in MMA history, Big Jon. Don't get me wrong I really like Herb Dean he is a great ref but Big Jon is the legend who set the bar which hardly any other ref's have even come close to reaching.

Also who was that new joke of a ref that did a lot of the undercards? Hope we never see him again.

Also I think the issue for the UFC and signing Shields is that anything but a title shot shouldn't interest Shields but the UFC already got GSP doing TUF with Kosh so GSP won't be available for a long time, not until sometime next year for Shields.

I also really doubt that UFC wants to pay shields as much as he makes in Strikeforce atm, and giving Shields a title shot right away suddenly makes being in Strikeforce a legitimate way to get to a UFC title shot. And you can actually make some real money in Strikeforce while getting there.

No he's a natural welter weight he only fought middle weight in Strikeforce because Nick Diaz was the welter weight champion and they're friends and team members. If you watched MMA for more than a year you would know these things or at least research, welter weight is where Shields fights so that fight could happen which I hope it does if he comes back at his natural weight but he's like Penn and Anderson he likes to bounce around and really challenge himself

Wow, I actually agreed with @ 90% of what Dana said. The only things I disagreed with were the clinch comment and the StrikeForce comment. The former because the refs break it up too soon just as often.

Yea the guy looked great overall.... I mean he was always overly aggressive and always tended to over-commit, but he could take those shots to land his signature right hand.... Now he just cant take the shots to set up that right hand. Wish he had been more guarded. Oh well, anyone who has been around MMA very long will respect the legend for what he is.

Maybe since some fighters are going towards the way of retirement it'd be nice if they went through the programs and hooked up with the athletic commission to become a referee themselves. They would know when a fight's a stalemate and needs to be broken up and put back in the center of the ring, when a fight needs to be stopped, when a fighter is out and so on. As long as it wouldn't be seen as a conflict of interest since they had former ties to UFC or because they're close with a fighter that they're reffing. Could be a good thing to think about.

Amazingly astute. I have been thinking the same thing. It would be excellent to get some of the retired 1st and 2nd generation MMA fighters in there as refs. Great comment.

Herb Deen greatest ref?! No that's big John, Herb waits to long to stop the fight. Dana's just saying that cause he doesnt have John anymore.

If Dana White has no control over the reffing, how does he manage to keep Big John from reffing UFC and WEC events?

Herb Dean is a fighter also, so I think that gives him a leg up on the other refs. He has been in there and knows whats going on. Big john is an excellent ref also, but Dean is better.

Herb is the best in the UFC and I've always agreed with every call he's made...Big John just has more popularity but if there was any ref I would chose to ref a huge fight it would be Herb because he is also a fighter which is what you need in a ref, someone who has been in those situations and knows what the fighters are going through so he knows when they're done and when they're not

I just think Herb waits to long to stop the fight. Other than that he's great. I just agree with Big Johns calls more than the others, he's right there as soon as a guy taps or gets KO'd, Herb waits a few seconds.

It doesn't matter how good he was as a fighter. Look at how many great coaches in other professional sports there are that were terrible atheletes. They understand the game, they just couldn't compete. Herb Dean understands MMA.

Ahh i'd like UFC so much better if a more humble, more honest, more fair person were in Dana's place. Funny how Dana is talking about how referee's should be choked out to "see how it feels" but he can treat the fighters like dogs and if they don't jump high enough to put on a show then he gives them their walking papers.

i hope chuch does the right thing and bows out admits that he just isn't up to it anymore, then goes on to be a great high level MMA coach. right now most guys training people for MMA are specialist in one area, grappling, striking, etc... Randy Couture is the only high level fighter i can think of off the top of my head who is really training guys who actually has elite level MMA credits to his name. from what we have seen of chuck training guys on the TUF's he's done, i think that he could be a force in younger fighters coners. we would hear "he has been training with chuck liddel", and it would be intended to mean "he has been trained by hardazz mofokin legend in the sport,so we expect fireworks from his trainie".
