Dana White: Carlos Condit has accepted the rematch with Nick DiazPosted on February 8, 2012, 04:04 AM by Anton Gurevich
Only hours after we speculated about four possible routes for Nick Diaz following the controversial "L" at last weekend's scrap with Carlos Condit, UFC President Dana White confirmed via Twitter that The Natural Born Killer has agreed to rematch with the former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion.
"At this point, (a rematch) is not something we’re looking to do. We're looking for Georges (St. Pierre). People forget, Carlos waited a long time to get this fight. He was moved around, and shuffled around between fights. He won the fight. It doesn't interest us at all. I think clearly and decisively, he won the fight. Even (UFC president) Dana (White) scored it for him. All of the opinions that matter scored Carlos as the winner. ... The fans disagree (with the decision) because they got hyped up to see Nick Diaz and GSP fight each other. Well, let them fight each other. We’ve moved on."
Today, it looks like Nick Diaz will have to postpone his speculated retirement, for another shot at what is now Carlos Condit's Interim UFC Welterweight title.
Georges St. Pierre's tweet about still hoping for a fight with Nick Diaz, the French-Canadian's recovery schedule, millions of fans labeling the UFC 143 main event as "robbery of the year", and perhaps Carlos Condit's personal pride may all have influenced the New Mexican's decision to accept the rematch. One way or another, MMA fans around the world are up for another thriller, or if you will, a blockbuster sequel between Condit and Diaz.
