Dan Hardy: Matt Hughes is a blood-thirsty kill freak, I would love to fight him
Posted on March 18, 2012, 10:55 AM by Anton Gurevich"That blood thirsty kill freak. I can't stand the dude. ... The thing is, at this stage in his career, I know he's past his peak. I know he's not looked great in his last few fights, and maybe he's kind of winding down. I would love to fight him and, if he was willing to take the fight, I would by all means love to get in there and put it on him, but I'm not going to chase after the guy cause he has passed his peak and he may not want to a fight against someone who doesn't like him as much as me." - mmaweekly.com via the UG.
Once again, former UFC Welterweight title challenger Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy expressed his desire to fight Matt Hughes, this time labeling the UFC Hall of Famer as "blood thirsty kill freak". In his interview with MMAWeekly.com, Hardy stated that perhaps a passion for hunting "is the only cure for Matt Huhges' impotence", claiming that there's no justification for what he does to wild animals.
Both fighters are currently on a losing streak inside the Octagon; Hardy is 0-4 starting with his fight vs. Georges St. Pierre at UFC 111, while Matt Hughes suffered two back-to-back TKO losses to BJ Penn and Josh Koscheck. However, the fight between the two could still generate a lot of interest from MMA fans around the world, especially when the trash talk is getting better with every interview.

Matt Huges is a WHAT???
To adress the rest of what Hardy said:
Yes, Hughes is past his peak.
No, he hasn't looked great in his last couple fights.
Yes, his career is kind of winding down.
Unfortunately for Hardy, Hughes' wrestling is still much, much better than Hardy's...and I would pick him to win by decision 9 times out of 10.
I wonder why Matt Hughes did to piss off Hardy that much.
I remember that Hardy said that he knew ppl from Hughes area that dont like him either, and he added that he couldnt say the reason of all the hate they have toward Hughes.
HArdy is usually a guy who is not liked by the fans and the other fighters because of his talking ,but he is not the kind of guy who hates on another guy. He is funny and when he trash talks abt another fighter ,it's for joking ,he is just a funny kid. But that hate toward Hughes is real.. :S
Hardy is just trying to pick someone he thinks he can beat to end his losing streak.
BTW if guys don't know why Hardy is pissed or what the "kill freak" comment is about, it's because Matt Hughes hunts for sport and tweeted a picture of a dead Bobcat or something similar, he's posted a few hunting pictures.
I think Hughes would smash Hardy but I don't disagree with Hardys anger, WTF is the point in hunting for sport? Just cruel and for facqs
Still grappling to wrap my mind on this very odd statement: "Matt Hughes, a blood-thirsty kill freak." Is this meant to be a hyperbole? Even so, Matt Hughes is about as even-tempered and peaceful as they come...Seems Hardy is just trying to pick a fight with a "retired" (well almost retired) guy or get some big win to rebuild his career...Agree with above comment, Hughes is no easy fight to anyone, even at this age and twilight stage of his MMA career...

It's because Hughes hunts for sport
no but even before that , Hardy said he has personal reasons to dislike Hughes as a person and he added that he knows ppl from his area who a cheering against him for the same reason, but he couldnt say the reason in the interview. I dont think its about the hunting thing, i think he dislike hughes for something else
It's crazy to still keep on talking that kind of trash when you're on a 4 fight losing streak. I love Hardy and i love his style even though he hasn't won a fight in a while now... but if I were him i would keep a low profile until i win at least a couple of fights.
Hardy got Decisioned and outclassed by GSP (Come to expect that when someone fights GSP)
Got caught by condit and KO'd
Wrestle ****ed by Rumble
Great fight with Lytle where he got subbed.
Hes just trying to ask for a fight that he thinks he can win, its not like hes saying hes a world beater and begging to fight Ellenberger or Hendricks. He is asking for another fighter who is on a losing streak, no harm in that.
Dan Hardy is barely mid-tier UFC level. He is one of the most one dimensional fighters in the UFC (along with people like Pat Barry) but the thing is he struggles to win even in that fighting realm. Condit put him to sleep, Lytle worked him and rocked him lots of times and Johnson dropped him with a kick as well.
I don't understand how he can except to stay in the UFC if he doesn't evolve or even progress as a fighter and his own offense isn't that good.
If a fighter doesn't want to evolve and become well rounded they can still win fights with that offense (Barry, Davis, Mendes etc.) but Hardy seems like he can't.
The fact even asking for a fighter, who will COMPLETELY dominate Hardy as he has disgustingly bad wrestling, is a joke as I'm fully expecting him to either be dominated or TKO'd by Bang Ludwig.
Hopefully he is cut after that as he doesn't seem committed to making himself win fights, by becoming more rounded or better in his area, judging by his performances anyway.
Simple fact is that he is only kept around because he is a big British name and IMO that's bull and unfair on other fighters who are cut.
Oh yea btw I'm from UK so can't say I'm just hating on Brits lol, doesn't matter where you come from you can still improve.
Hardy has been practicing various martial arts from the age of 6 so he knows a thing or two about the various forms of martial arts that are needed to succeed in MMA i'm sure, the problem is he likes to stand and trade almost too much. I mean he's stated publicly going into a fight that he's often prepared to take two or three strikes from his opponent to land one of his own which isn't the best strategy is it?!
He'd be much better off trying to avoid getting hit in the first place surely. He's studied King Fu with Shaolin Buddhist monks in China, is a black belt in Taekwondo and is actually a very good striker. He definately needs to improve on his jiu jitsu and his wrestling though, both offensively and defensively if he wants to climb back up the UFC rankings.
I do think he kind of lost the plot a bit after the loss to GSP, but after his latest loss i think he realised just how much he needed to improve his all around game which was when he decided to take a long break and deal with his deficiancies, predominantly his wrestling i should think.
Anyway, i'm excited now he's coming back to face Duane Ludwig at UFC 146 and i really hope to see a new and improved version of the Outlaw. We may not get to see the biggest improvements this fight because he's facing an opponent who also likes to strike, which will make it an exciting bout for sure, but he'll face another wrestler or someone who likes to take the fight to the floor soon enough.....
GOOD LUCK DAN!!.....i say...........
Oh yeah.......i also don't understand just what he's playing at calling out one of the best wrestlers in the division in Matt Hughes who is one of the founders of ground and pound! The only answer i can come up with is the fact that perhaps Hardy wants to test everything he's learned while he's been away from the game trying to improve. Even then though he should have picked a lesser talented fighter at getting the fight to the floor.
@Keith Farrell......Hardy had a bad losing streak yes, all fighters experience them at some point, it doesn't mean he's a crap fighter all of a sudden. Everybody was calling him the best thing since sliced bread right up to his fight with GSP. Then, he has a bad run and all of a sudden he's being called a 'mid-tier fighter' who someone like you think will be either TKO'd or dominated by Ludwig! I'll state now that if it stays standing Hardy is better than Ludwig and he will either own or KO/TKO Ludwig, that's imo.
I'm convinced we are going to see a new and improved, re-vitalised Dan Hardy, with a voracious appetite for exciting fights with top opponents to test himself against, i just hope he has improved hios wrestling etc enough, but i'm still very confident in his striking ability, just as i've always been. Just because Condit caught him doesn't mean he isn't a good striker........anything can happen on the night in MMA........and it usually does.......
I have nothing against him personally and he is far from crap, he could dominate the little leagues as he is but to remain in the UFC and do well in it you need to be constantly trying to fill the holes in your game and judging off his performances he hasn't done that well.
It seems like Matts brain cant handle the shots anymore. If Dan hits him clean in the head, I think it would be over. Look for Matt to take him down right away and win on pts. Probably a lay and pray. I hope not though. It would be nice to see some vintage ground and pound from good old Matt Hughes.
hardy is right about 1 thing matt hughes is a prick, and he is the fakest person i ever known
Translation: I want Hughes to beat me too.
