Randy will be a contender until he retires, people wrote him off against sylvia, belfort, chuck and many more but he still comes back. He is old now but if he can still fight and win then let him

I agree, but he manhandled a relatively 'green' Brock. Can you imagine Randy vs Rampage, Rua, Machida or Evans though??!!!....

I think he is better than most but he should stick to doing superfights because a title run seems a little too much for him. Just my opinion...

Come on! The guy manhandled Lesner before getting caught. He is old but there isn't a single fighter at LHW and maybe not anyone in the UFC's HW that he can't beat on a good day. Some of them could beat him on a good day for them but he is definitely still one of the best.

He would have done a lot more damage to Vera had the idiot ref not broken them up every time they went into a clinch as if they were boxing. Randy had a lackluster performance in that fight because he wasn't allowed (by the ref, not Vera) to implement his game plan.

exactly , hes a warrior , an inspiration! hes still my hero

but we got to realize hes not at the level of Shogun, machida or Jones

the LHW are too fast for Couture , he can still fight and do really good in the division but he cannot defeat the best at 205

but i hope randy dosent retire until 2012 at least

His gameplan was to lay and pray against the cage. He wasn't advancing his position and he wasn't doing any damage so the ref was doing his job.

Hell i thought Vera won that fight...he inflicted way more damage through kicks and the only reason Randy one was because he laid on him against the fence...LHW contender i don't think so

BS. They were never in the clinch longer than a 15 seconds. The ref didn't understand grappling. Both fighters were working very hard to advance and Randy was landing nice short strikes in between. Kudos to Vera for negating some of Randy's clinch game but he would have gotten beat up if the ref knew what he was doing.

I agree with this and we really have to remember when he fought Brock it was his game all the way until he was caught. If we don't count him in we would have to count out half of this division too because he can and will defeat most of his opponents. Where do we draw the line? We obviously need more than 5 contenders in this and he is top 10 for sure.

So, because he is Captain America he deserves special treatment? Comon, he beat (if you can call it beat) Brandon Vera, a geriatric Coleman, and? I believe he is also 2-2 in his last 4 fights (correct me if I'm wrong). There are far more deserving fighters at LHW for title contention. Lil Nog, the winner of Rampage/Evans, Jon Jones, to name a few. Also, its not just that he has won his last two fights, but the caliber of those fighters says a lot. Both Vera and Coleman were very bottom-rung in the great depth of the LHW division. Couture needs to prove he can hang with the best at LHW before people consider him a contender.

I agree 100% moots. He needs more wins first but he can definitely work his way back. Remember, his 2 recent loses are a fight against Lesner that he was winning and got caught and a close loss to Big Nog.

...he wasn't as good as he use to be, Randy is still a good fighter but I think age is taking its tole on Randy

I do not think he is still viable to be Champ again, I think Randy should retire while he still has a chance. He is too old to be fighting right now

Hes now a gatekeeper. That in itself is commendable, and his past fights from years ago. Randy has always had good belief in himself, thats what got him this far, but the top of the division now is much to versitile and end your night with one strike.

sure he is still a legit contender, but his name shouldn't put him above earning it by beating other high ranked LHW's. if he beats lights out toney, he should get a fight with either lil nog or jone jones, then fight the loser of rahad v rampage then if he does those types of things he should get a title shot.

People who have just become fans of MMA when it became the trendy thing to do will not respect Randy as they should. With that being said of course his age has impacted his performance. Some ppl are carrying on about WHO he beat to get his last two victories. Well you can argue that doesn't make him a contender if thats your opinion, but how does that make him any LESS of a contender? Either way he will get his chance to show and prove.

Rashad, Rampage, Anderson, Machida, Jones, Lil Nog... these are legit contenders for the LHW title.

It's great to have guys like Couture, Chuck, Hughes, Franklin and Wand around. They always put up good shows and attract fans to our sport. But that's all they should worry about: making good fights for their fans (and making some money, of course). Leave the title runs for the young guys.

I can see him giving wrestlers like rampage trouble..rashad seems toned down since his machida lost so probably. Maybe he can neutralize shoguns kicks....

He can challenge alot of guys yea, but i could see machida making quick work of him. He's still pretty solid and should be taken seriously, but not top tier

I'm not gonna argue how good he is or isnt. Over 1/2 of all his fights are Title Fights. The UFC gotta stop giving him title fights all the time. He needs to earn it just like everybodyelse.

His record is 28 fights, 18 wins, 10 losses. 16 fights were title fights and he only defended the belt 3 times. Hes 2-2 on this last 4 fights and a win over Vera and Coleman (neither of them top 10) doesnt put him on the title contention. His last respectable win was over Gonzaga almost 3 years ago.

His record speaks for itself... he doesnt deserve it, but he keeps geting spoon-fed title fights.

Randy could physically justify his contract with the UFC if he were 65 years old. Top-contender or not, old ass Randy would still be at least an upper mid-level gate-keeper.

i love how people rule out randy at LHW but at the same time mention lil nog as a top contender a man that has had one fight in the ufc against a low level guy out side the ufc he has never beat a top ten guy other than dan henderson. not saying lil nog sucks just saying be real and to the people that said randy was winning that fight against lesnar WTF fight were you watching

The vera fight was bullshit and he only got the win because hes Randy couture......he still has wat it takes to hang with the best but not beat the best

LMAO! At 47? Randy Coulture had his time. However, he is getting older not younger. Do you actually think he would beat Shogun or Machida? He is a very likeable person that is why people look past his record and enjoy watching him compete even at 46.

I like Coulture but he should just collect Royalties from his current companies and start acting on the fulltime basis so he avoids any serious injury.

He isn't a contender anymore, and he won't be for the rest of his career. He had a great career, but he barley slipped by a guy like Brandon Vera who isn't considered as a contender. Randy will not be able to compete with the younger more athletic guys in the division. Couture will be a a good guy to put up against a borderline contender to how they fair against a legend, but Couture is still competitive, but not anywhere near the level of title contention.
