Hoping its a War from both fighters.

Rampage hasnt been finished inside the octagon before, so my guess is that if Machida does win, it will go the distance.

    Machida via Split Decision.

this is a great match up, both need the win to stay in the top 5 of this division, I think Rampage mite take this one because he does really well against counter fighters and also he has great strike defense so I don't think Machida will KO him like he did Silva and Evans, but then again if Machida uses kicks and knees he has a good chance of winning, I see Rampage winning in the first or second round via KO

I cannot wait to see the hunger from both these fighters! I hope it's a good fight because without leg kicks, I do not see Rampage having much of a chance. We shall see!

Yep this is a risky affair for Machida. His defensive stand up style, even though defensive, is still standup and if you gonna stand with Rampage you are at risk of being Ko'ed cause all he needs is 1 punch. Another problem is that Rampage is willing to take a few punches going in just to secure the ko punch and his iron chin IMO will withstand Machidas back peddling punches. This is either going to end in Machida being Ko'ed or the fight going the distance sorry I just don't see Rampage being Ko'ed by Machida his chins too hard.

looks like you made a sensible comment, went and dropped some acid and then came back to reply to your own comment. there is nobody at 205 that doesn't have the power to ko anyone else. of course machida can ko rampage.

this is defo a bad match up for rampage and and a good one for machida. my guess is that rampages best days in mma are over and machida will make him look slow and tired.

Rampage is perfect for Machida's counter striking. There's always a danger of getting caught by ramps, but barring that i expect a devastating finish from machida.

I think if Machida wins then he should take on Jones should he get through the Janitor, which I think he will with ninja skills and flying back-kick-spinning-back elbow Liu Kang combos. The winner of that gets the next title shot after Shogun comes back and makes Rashad look like an idiot.

I am excited, I think Rampage is goign to throw some punches to counter the counter, Machida is going to try to counter and if he hurts

Rampage we will see a TKO, but we all know what is going to happen if he gets caught...

If Rampage wants to compete he needs to use some of his trademark throws. Without them he is far too basic to compete with Machida.

He dont check leg kicks, he comes straight at you predictably, hes not as fast as Machida, and hes not technical. That plays right in to Machidas game.

Rampage hasnt been the same in the UFC, anyway. It's like he forgot how to fight since he been training at Wolfslair. He needs to get out of the mediocre camp (well, mediocre for this lvl of competition)

Machida will probably win, Rampage is among th best in the division, but needs to evolve to be speedier. Machida is just on another level, his biggest challenge is within his own mind to master himself and overcome the mental insecurities of his first loss.

Rampage shouldn't have lost to forrest, but machida needed to lose to shogun otherwise things just aren't even fair for anyone else in that division

Machida is a weird one for the ufc, hes too good to cut, yet his style mixed with his personality do him no favours as a promotional icon. The Ufc look like they are going to use him as the hungry dog you get fed to if you are a bad boy.

Conservative fighting style + nice cleancut guy image = Boring.

However conservative fighting style + total asshole image = very Marketable.

Imagine if he comes out on interviews and says hes goina kick everyones ass (which is the truth!) and totally disrespects them. The Ufc fanbase would lose the plot, they would be begging Dana White to have Shogun put manners on him - definately the fastest way to get a title shot.

Conclussion: Machida its easier to change how you come accross to the public rather than trying to change your fighting style.

    Marketing 101

    What are you talking about?

GSP and Anderson Silva are the nicest cleancut image guys in MMA today while being the biggest stars. Thats because of their fighting ability.

This is a fighting sport not an asshole competition.

Machida dont need to change his personality. Tune into WWE if ya wanna see smack talk before every fight. GSP is conservative in recent fights and nice guy image, and he makes himself and dana alot of money.

When the fans of MMA smarten up theyll be happy to have guys like machida and anderson around, not sloppy punchers and brawlers who could be outside a bar going shot for shot with some local bully.

These are professionals.MMA shouldn't be a brainless sport of whoever hits the hardest wins or take them down and hide, strategy isn't a dirty word.

I dont disagree, Machida has technical brilliance which can be appreciated by most fans. However the UFC is what it is. Its a business first and foremost and just like all business' - its all about the money.

Machida's problem is he doesnt relate to the casual fan. It would hurt the UFC alot more, if say they lost Rampage as opposed to Machida. Rapage can engage the casual fans, if Machida could learn this he would be a valued asset in the ufc.

I know their are many MMA fans who watch ufc, but there are just as many casual fans. If you want to make it - you have to cater to both. Look at Brock Lesnar, the casual fans love him, and the hardcore fans hate him, but guess what everybody watches him, and thats why hes so valuable to them.

I can't see how hardcore fans would hate brock. If anything, hardcore fans would realize what he's actually doing while casual fans would be like "omg he only winz cuz he'z big!" the same way they say omg all machida duz is run!! or "silva is afraid to knock pplz out!"

I dunno, i don't think MMA has gotten the respect of real martial artists because right now it encourages everything martial arts is against, and the majority of fans can't see anything else.

I agree Rampage winning would better for business much like Lesnar. But I really enjoy watching a Machida fight and seeing his unorthodox style. If casual fans that don't appreciate that then they need to be educated rather than the UFC catering marketable fighters to them.

In some cases I believe that's true. That's one thing about Dana White that bothers me - sometimes he's for things that real martial artists are against. Such as his rabid desire for knock-outs. Sure, it will please the fans, but real martial artists value wins rather than knock-outs.

This fight will be huge, I would hate to see either fighter going down with a loss, regardless of being finished or getting a decision. There is a lot at risk for these two fighters. Pride, a top contender's spot, legacy. I feel that the loser of this fight could have their reputation as a very dynamic fighter, taken away from them. But regardless, I hope they put on a good show and continue to shine throughout their careers.

I agree completely, Rampage is a great fighter and so fun to watch and Machida, although coming off his first lost when he was concidered "Untouchable" isn't the easiest thing to recover from. Stylistacly he maches up great, he's a very technical all around strategist and rampage is an in your face im going to knock you out fighter with great hands. Should be a beast matchup, i would have liked to see Rampage vs Forrest and Machida vs Rashad. Two epic rematches and they are all hungry fighters who need a 'W'. Regardless good matchup. Well personally I think the two options are a little extreme... I am somewhere between "who cares" and "excited." I mean, yea its a decent match, but to me Rampage's days are over. Machida needs a rebound match anyway and I am sure he will take this fight. Rampage "tweeted" when this match was being discussed something along the lines of, I dont want to fight Machida because "dudes style is boring and I just had a boring fight." He has just become annoying imo....

lol, "dudes style is boring and I just had a boring fight"?????

I'm not sure if he thinks that comment makes himself look good or what...

He only had a "boring fight" because he could not do a damn thing about it! Is he trying to say he's going to have another boring fight because he's not going to be able to do anything about Machidas style?

He needs to learn to adapt! Damn... It's like each fight he's losing more of what he had in the Pride days, rather than improving with each fight...

Ever since he's joined the UFC, what has he displayed other than the fact that he's still not technical, and all he does nowdays is swing?

ok rampage did not look horrible against rashad, in fact i believe that first hit he got took away his explosiveness in that fight, and now he hopefully will train harder and be in even better condition, and i think that he will most likely go in there swinging and knock out machida kinda like shogun
