    If it's Shields. I think being on a 14 fight win streak, already coming off of a win over a top 10 (at the time) fighter and being a beltless champion already constitutes him at least being up there. Though it may depend too on who wins between Thiago and Fitch, if Fitch wins he should be number 1 contender, if Alves wins, he should face the winner of Shields/ Kampmann, and if Kampmann wins he should face the winner of Hardy/Condit before he becomes contender.

    To me it all depends on how Fitch and Alves fight goes, if Fitch loses then ya this should be for the number one contender spot but if Fitch wins then he should get the title shot

    Is anyone really convinced that Fitch or Alves will beat GSP the second time around i'm not. I'm not convinced Sheilds or Kampmann would either but at this moment i'd rather see a fight we ain't seen before the best outcome would be for Kos to beat GSP. Now i don't like Kos but my desire to see new match ups in the WW division for the title is getting stronger each time i see GSP out grapple people. I'm already looking forward to A Silva leaving the MW division for the same reason.

    @Bob

    I understand. Really so if for instance, Fitch keeps winning he is just supposed to keep waiting for others to get a shot when he is more deserving? Dude that is not right. Regardless who comes in, when you do enough to get a shot, you should get the shot. GSP himself did less to get his rematch!!!!! Well I guess Fitch hasn't beat Alves yet so I will stop haha!

    @mmauk

    I love MMA. I really do. I love the actual fights but I hate the politics of it. It doesn't matter what we think about who is going to win, if someone deserves to get a title shot he should get it. Do you watch any other sports? If a team makes it to the finals, you can't say well that team lost last year in the finals so we are going to let another team play instead. That is not right. Games OR FIGHTS aren't played on paper. Some of the biggest upsets would have never happened if the fights were played on paper. The fights actually have to happen. Its hard to argue Fitch doesn't deserve a second chance. Fights can't all be determined on what we think the outcome is going to be. He has worked to hard for us to determine that.

    That being said, it may come down to most decisive victory, because someone will need to get a shot sooner rather than later, and if we wait for a face off between the winners of the 2 fights, then it could be awhile before another title fight.

    I think both guys need a couple more wins before they should get shot. WW division is mega stacked, and there's plenty who have been waiting their turn. With GSP only fighting twice a year they may have quite a wait.

    yes just cause gsp already beat the living crap out of the top fighters or his division,but in the ufc shields his not even a top 5 ww in my opinion and for Kampmann,that dude is up and down in the past 2 years.

    Yes well GSP only is fighting twice a year because of scheduling, if he didn't have to wait until March to fight this year, and all the way until the end of the TUF season he might have fought 3 times this year.

    And you're right they have both lost, but they are still top contenders, and Fitch has won 3 fights (I think) since the last time he fought GSP, if he beats another top contender he would have absolutely earned another shot.

    I say yes.... Just like a previous statement mentioned, the division is stacked, however conversely to their logic, I feel that is why it needs to happen. I say go ahead and get that fight done and over with. Obviously I am mostly referring to Shields, but Kampmann is deserving as well. The UFC did Shields no favors, Kampmann is a strong first opponent.

    Why is anyone saying Shields should get the shot if he wins. Everyone was saying SF is the minor leagues blah blah blah. So Shields is a top contender now because he beat Hendo or is it that SF's MW division is sooo much better than all the other divisions.... Now he deserves a shot if he gets one (count it, 1!!!) victory in the UFC????! Come on!!! Double standards if you ask me.....

    I think the proof will be in the pudding. If Shields destroys Kampmann which I am doubtful that he will, that could be a "legitimate" reason to give him a title shot. He certainly has the credentials, but let's face it they are SF credentials, not UFC. It's common sense that the UFC is stacked with talent way beyond SF's talent pool. I personally think he needs to prove himself in the UFC beyond one fight (and win) before getting any kind of a shot and feel at the least he would need to face the winner of Alves/Fitch. Only problem with that is the time gap for championship matches might be too large, but maybe not.

    I have to admit, when Sheilds pushed Daley against the cage then jumped up and grabbed a fast guillotine, my jaw dropped, fight was over.

    He didn't even get touched or break a sweat. Daley felt like a tool but couldn't say a word.

    He gets it cuz he dominated his division. and This way Dana's money is well spent cuz if Shields fights GSP for the title and loses(or loses to Kampmann) Dana will pull what he did with Werdum, and can say "ha i told you UFC is better" and still keep a top contender at least, and if not and Shields wins......well he bought the best so money well spent still. Financially this is the best course for Dana to put Shields in

    I think simply because Sheilds is an underdog, hes humble and hes pretty likable also. I think people also want to see guys who have been put down at lesser orgs to do well and make critics second guess their philosophies.

    Money... the root of all evil. Put money aside and put high quality in place of it and the money will come and come more securely. I am not a toyota fan but they built quality cars when the americans were building advertising cars and although at first it made money to sell power in the end quality won and now toyota is ahead of ford and gm. Now ford and gm have finally copped on and are building higher quality cars. Fitch deserves it, he is 1. in the UFC 2. top contender in the ufc 3. beat everyone except GSP 4. is on a larger winning streak than anyone else in the the UFC 170 division and that streak is a UFC one. 5. the fans are starting to get annoyed with dana over the lack of attention to fitch.

    Hell of a comparison. I like that. You are right. I've been putting the Fitch thing out there for awhile. Some people agreed and some didn't. Regardless its funny how the guy keeps winning and still gets overlooked. Some people aren't paying attention and some are just denying it because they don't want to say anything bad about the UFC. I love what Dana has done for MMA but to me that shouldn't be a free pass to do whatever just for the sake of "business." Things like this take away from the legitimacy of the sport.

    Yeah, Shields just beat a top UFC MW. I can see fast tracking him. That said, I don't think it would be a bad thing for him to work his way up either. If he beats Kampmann it might be a good idea to have him fight the loser of the Fitch V Alves fight. Then, if he wins that fight, he can fight the loser of GSP V Koscheck. If he wins that he should fight the loser of the fight between the winners of F V A and G V K. Then the UFC should make him the #1 contender.

    I don't think Shields' win over Hendo is as big of a win as they say. It's inpressive but didn't look like Dan trained too hard for that one. Was just sure he'd be the better wrestler if he had to fall back on it. But I don't know for sure how hard he trained. Just seemed he got kinda tired pretty early. Maybe just cuz of when he tried to put Jake away early. But the bottom line is Shields hasn't proved himself in the UFC yet. So it's good they aren't giving him an instant title shot. If he can do the same ting to Kampman it'll be more justified. But that's no easy task. I'm going for Kampman. He defended on the ground perfectly against even Thales Leites. The Hitman is sick on the ground.

    I was pretty surprised too. But maybe Hendo just doesn't have that much from his back. I mean Rampage controlled him pretty well too, and yeah he should be bigger and stronger than Shields but jits isn't as much about strength. I know it matters but if Hendo had significant jits I'd think he coulda done better against Rampage too. Henderson is the man. That was a shitty fight he had in strikeforce though. Shields may be tough though. We will find out a lot watching him and the Hitman.

    I say YES, it's more marketable to sell a GSP ( if he beats KOS ) fight vs somebody he has never fought before.

    Also Paulo THiago was very close to a title shot, Kampmann beat him very decisivly.

    Jake Shields has the resume and credible wins to deserve a title shot as well.

    I understand he has an impressive record and he is a very good fighter but tha still does not give enough reason to completely skip a whole weight class and get a title shot with the top fighter. His last two fights against Miller and Henderosn were either lack luster or he did not show the dominance over those fighters that would rocket him to the top. He dose not deserve a title shot along with Martin Kampman. They both need to have more fights under their belts.

    This question is completely pointless until we see how the GSP-Koscheck fight goes. It doesn't even only depend on who wins but how. If Koscheck grinds out a controversial decision ala Machida and takes the belt then GSP has been dominant enough a Champ to earn an immediate rematch. God knows he's just going to completely destroy anyone else he fights, it's pointless to waste his talents on non-title fights.

    However if he comes in and gets dummied by Koscheck, taken down and beaten up and he's dethroned as God of Wrestling in MMA. Then it's hard to say but we need to also see how Alves does against Fitch. Fitch is the best welterweight in the whole world whose name isn't Georges St. Pierre and if Alves runs through him I say give it to Alves a billion times before either Shields or Kampmann

    I clicked yes but actually I think its should be decided by who looks the most impressive in both Shields vs Kampmann and Fitch vs Alves.

    But I suspect that Shields has been told that if he beats Kampmann he will get the next title shot.

    My $ is that GSP will win & so will Shields. To hell with Fitch and Alves. Give Jake a shot. That dude is a monster at 170. Before GSP moves up, or does his superfight with The Spider and retire, Shields is his only true test out there in this division. I hate watching all these clearly won "rubber matches" St Pierre has to fight.

    the ww division is stacked with good fighters that deserve their shot at the title...fitch and alves, although they have already fought GSP have both earned another shot and whoever wins their bout should be the next contender. Jake has to prove himself in the ufc before he can be put in front of GSP. at least thats my opinion

    You can't prove yourself in strikeforce for UFC title contention. If you haven't fought the guys in contention then you are not a contender. Jake decided to vacate and start fresh and that means re-proving yourself as the new organization may have better fighters and you may be bottom of the heap. I think Fitch would beat Sheilds anyway as he is great at suppressing JJ. Sheilds should wait 2 more fights and only if he can win.
