true but beting the best doesnt make you the best unless you move on from there, before 112 there was no doubt in anybodys minds as to who the best was, and i think unless edgar can win the rematch, its still bj...was serra the best WW when he beat gsp?i personally dont think so...

Yeah, one loss does not erase BJ's standing. Most fighters lose now and then. He'll still dominate everybody and probably win the rematch.

Big fan of Frankie Edgar though.

With the current shake up in the weight class I think that we are a few fights away from really being able to say who is #1.

    It's very clear cut. IMO.

Compare the fighters' respective competition. Level of dominance in those fights. Winning titles? Title defenses?

It's hard to compare anyone in the world to BJ at LW. He lost a close fight... Frankie is awesome, but he probably won't beat BJ again, and neither will Gray.

BJ Penn had an off fight in my opinion. Melendez is probably 4, Florian 3rd, and Edgar 2nd (have to give him respect for taking down/beating Penn)

i think florian would own frankie but would lose to BJ and even tho hes not on there i think aldo would be no.1 if he moved up. hes like an anderson silva that doesnt waste oppertunities.

I'm picking Penn. I don't even think Edgar could defend the title. If BJ doesn't reclaim it, it'll end up changing hands over & over like the LHW belt.

Glad to see everyone saying BJ, I agree. He's done too much to lose it over a match that he was no way near 100% for.

Having said that it was an awesome fight by Frankie.

Whats up with these polls? "Many people are arguing" Hmmm......I dont think so. I think most still feel its BJ just as the pole suggests! Lol, its not even close! I feel Edgar definitely won the fight and deserved it. With that being said, he has a few more fights before being considered best in the biz. BJ is still more well rounded and tho I dont feel he deserves an immediate rematch, he will definitely hold the gold once again!

lol naww... if the fight was that close and alot of people had bj penn winning rounds 1-2-3 and frankie winning 4-5 then he should damn well get an immediate rematch and if he doesnt then there is something wrong...

ive only seen this immediate rematch bs with shogun and machida. How many times have there been close decisions but no immediate rematch. I think machida and shogun were a special case, and that was only an immediate rematch cuz it had created such a big buzz the ufc had to capitalize.. The match WAS close in my opinion.. I wasnt sure who was gonna win

My opinion, it has to be BJ Penn. This past decision was not a dominant win for Edgar to classify himself as the #1 LW in the world. However, fundamentally speaking, Frankie just became number #1 with his win vs. BJ. That is if you follow the system.

Anyone can have a bad night and BJ has been dominat for so long that it still feels like he is number 1. I still think that BJ will beat Edgar 9 out of 10 and I actually think BJ won that fight. Its no different then that I rank Shogun as n1 LHW even thou he "lost".

I disagree witht he Shogun number 1 comment. Alot of people jumped on his bandwagon after the Machida fight. Hes gotta fight like that for a few more fights for me to consider him number one.

It remains to be seen. BJ does not like to work hard so I think if his motivation is slipping, he is not going to be the best much longer. But the Edgar fight was hardly a dominating win. Although it was a clear victory. I don't really think you can put Edgar at the top of the heap though. I have a feeling that if Florian gets a shot at him, we will have yet another new title holder. Melendez really impressed me with the Aoki win though. But you can never say definitively when fighters are in opposing organizations and don't get a chance to fight one another.

After the Penn/Edgar rematch...we will see...

For now i believe Penn is still the best...

Penn came into the Edgar fight out of shape.

No one has beat Penn like GSP.

You dont get to be number one by winning decisions in my opinion..

to be fair, gsp actually took out hughes and serra and has since went to decisions.

machida took out rashad and has since went to a decision.

silva took out franklin and has had both tko's and decisions.

    cruz, word.
