He should fight Vitor anyway, regardless of his stupid show at 112.

Machida would be a good punishment since Anderson says he doesn't want to fight him. It would probably be another 5 rounder though.

He should fight Ed soares and kick his butt...Can someone explain why he did not hurt Maia and finish if he was so disrespected? Silva dont go for the kill anymore like he used to, see Hendo, Franklin...he's playing it safe to remain champion and remains the p4p best samba dancer in the world imo.

none of these would be a punishment....all these fights would make main events and encourage him to keep doing this....

as for a punishment, i dont think you could dish out a punishment that suites....if he had to fight on the prelims that would be unfair for the guy fighting anderson....

have to say im not impressed though

if they want to punish him I think white should make him fight maia again and make sure that he actually fights him this time. White making Silva fight any of these guys is just stupid its not a punishment and lets face it he would be able to stand his own against most if not all of these guys. Silva is one of the best fighters if not the best he felt like maia disrespected him as a fighter and silva wanted to go out there and do worse to maia then what he felt maia did to him. there really is no right punishment to only punish silva. also sonnen is a joke and if he fought machida it would also be punishing machida.

Everyone who keeps saying make him fight Machida needs to understand that Dana can't "make" him fight anyone. if Silva and Machida say they won't fight, then that fight will never happen.

Is what Anderson really needs to do is just lose, Lesnar would just be a stupid fight and pretty obvious what they're doing, but I think the real guy that has the best chance of beating SIlva is Rampage. He's got solid standup (obviously not Silva's level), an excellent ground game even if we don't see it very often anymore and a great chin so he'd be able to eat a shot ro two to get a take down. I think Rampage would be able to slam a lot of sense back into Silva

The fact is that no matter how pitiful and cheap his performance was, he dominated yet another top contender...

People are just learning how to fight him. Forest had a real chance, the problem is that he's too easily goaded in coming forward. Maia ignored it and fought his fight, Forest can't help trying to please the crowd so he walked in to it. If Maia had tried the same thing, he'd be knocked out like everyone else.

Not making excuses for Anderson though, it was shameful. Embarrassed himself. He talks about respect, how about he show some respect for the sport?

He felt like maia talked down on him as a fighter saying that the moment it hit the ground the fight would be over. Even though we dont see it much or even at all anymore Silva is a black belt in BJJ and trains with 2 of the best practitioners in the world who also trained with Maia before. Thats why he taunted so much and then didnt do anything he felt like he needed to return the favor and show Maia he's the real deal.

Im not defending Silva and what he did the last 2 rounds and even all the show boating I personally believe he took it a bit to far and should have done what he wanted to do and ko him in the first round to send not only a message to Maia but also to the rest of the world.

You can't even make that comparison. Starnes never had Quarry in any trouble. He ran from him the whole time. Silva spent 2.5 rounds dominating Maia like a cat playing with an insect. But then it got puzzling for sure. I still don't know what to make of it.

Make him vacate the 185 belt, move him up to 205 so his competition is tougher, and no more main event appearances so if he does it again it's not such a huge disgrace to the UFC.

Did Muhammed Ali run around the boxing ring and then lay down on the floor near his opponent?

What Anderson Silva did was way worse than a bit of name calling. Maybe you can save that analogy for the next time Brock or Mir says that someone should die in MMA.

What Silva pulled would be equivalent to running the bases backwards in Major League Baseball, because he thought the opposing team "disrespected" him.

Silva is a tool bag. He is a very talented tool bag.

If I were Dana, I would sign him up for some dumb ass fights to end his contract, and strip him of the belt.

After watching the press conference people understand that this wasn't a poor judgment issue on Silva. Silva actually believes that type of behavior is acceptable in the octagon. He acted like a child throwing a tantrum...

Muhammad Ali is my favorite boxer of all time but he used to taunt his opponents in and outside the boxing rings, dance around, call his opponents names and more. Anderson Silva is not the only fighter/boxer who's ever done anything like that.

Taunting is one thing. Making a spectacle is another. There is a fine line, but Anderson leaped over the line.

There are plenty of "trash" talkers in the MMA that get it done while they trash talk. Ever heard of Nick and Nate Diaz?

Anderson went in there and WON the fight. Bottom line! Period!

Rope-a-doping and other mind warfare tactics in MMA is fine.

He wasted 8 minutes of that fight of running around and not engaging.

One of the reporters put it very well when he asked Silva during the post fight press conference. He plainly put it, "It was funny at first, but why didn't you put the pressure on, when people started to "boo" you?". Which Silva in that entire interview, had no real legitimate answer.

Silva is a D-bag. Bottom line, he won, yeah you're right. I doubt he will when he faces Chael or Vitor Belfort..

    @ bjfanvad

Muhammad Ali did a lot more trash talking in the Frazier fight than all of Anderson UFC fights! Don't forget he ran around the right and was not a finisher but that put him in a class of his own and after all is said and done, he is collecting millions and still getting praised while Frazier is a broke trainer eating cup-a-noodles for lunch at his Philadelphia Boxing GYM.

Let's not forget this is all a part of the sport! Michael Jordan trashed talked and he did not win every game in spectacular Fashion! Mike Tyson did not finish every fight in spectacular fashion let alone he bit Holyfields ear in the ring!

For people to criticize and for Dana to say he is an embarrassment is a fu--- JOKE! That was Anderson’s strategy to take Maia out of his game plan,

He won the fight, it was not pretty, but he is still our champion! PERIOD!

This is why you are the minority. Most people believe that fight was a joke.

You want to sing his praise, fine. I am not going to stop you.

Additionally it is not a joke for Dana to call him an embarrassment. He is the president of the UFC, he can dictate how he wishes it to be portrayed.

I would say Anderson's strategy was horrible in that it did not do anything more than he could of done without the show boating. In fact, you can argue that he could have finished the fight if he didn't.

So Kudo's to Anderson, he looked like an ass, pissed off his boss, lost a huge portion of his fan base, and huge chunk of his revenue..

Lastly, when Muhammad Ali did it, he became more popular... Now see the difference?

You can call me the minority, seniority, at the end of the day you don’t pay my bills so quite frankly, I don’t give a shit. However, I can tell you I know what I am talking about when it comes to sports and because peeps paid $44.95 for a lousy PPBOO does not mean they have to take out their frustration out on Silva.

I am not going to sing his praise but I will except it and move on. Shit, Sylvester Stallone is my favorite actor but I don’t like all of his movies! One fight and everybody turned against him! LOL!

I beg the differ but I think it is a joke Dana calling him an embarrassment? Do you think if Steve Ballmer from Microsoft would call Ray Ozzie (Chief SW Architect) an embarrassment? Of coarse not! He carries himself with more class and protects the people the brains that are making him millions! Dana is the president and I agree with you in the way he wishes to be portrayed but that is only going to make him enemies in the long run.

Personally, I did not like the strategy myself and believe he could have finished it but it is what it is and I won’t go turning my back on him, throw him under the bus, and call him an embarrassment to the sport.

Overall, I think Anderson gained a bigger audience. The dude got paid didn’t he? It’s a contract for God’s Sake!

In closing, yeah, Muhammad Ali became extremely popular for his skills, religion, trash talk, draft dogging, and philanthropy! And, everybody loves the guy!!

What if Maia just laid on the ground in an open guard and let Silva kick his legs for five rounds...it would be the biggest MMA embarrassment ever. Maia tried to engage Silva in his strength and still Silva would have none of it. He acted like an ass and Demian Maia fought like more of a champion than Anderson ever will be.

don't you think anderson silva is already punished? he's already lost a lot of fans and is definitely embarassed by all the people chanting maia and gsp during his fight at ufc 112 and before (gsp chants). nonetheless silva is probably gonna come in his next fight wanting to prove a statement no matter who it is. also, i still believe that he is the best pound for pound fighter in the world and i am still a big fan even though he wasted his talents during that fight.

People are overlooking Belfort. If Silva gets hit by Belfort as clean as Maia caught him..he will be asleep. Maia just didn't have the power in his hands. Besides that the speed factor..he gets caught with one, ten more are following. Belfort is punishment enough for him.

its true what they say, that styles make fights but i think this had disaster written all over it from the start. You have the best striker in mma versus the best grappler. Obviously silva isnt going to take any chances in getting taken down, he knew he would lose if this happened...mia isnt dan henderson or lutter...he is a bjj world champ and silva would have no chance. Likewise mia didnt want to engage much in the stand up because he knew hed probably get ****ed up or ko'd...but he would need to try and get in close enough to take him down. Its unfortunate really, mia is one of my favourite fighters but i dont think he was ready for this shot. Silva needs to be put against a strong wrestler or somthing with a great chin with great stand up. its the only way he will be tested. I think GSP is the best option, GSP is too proud to be mocked like that. His wrestling is brilliant, and his stand up is good enough to last on the feet till it goes to the ground.

Meh..punishment?? Ok, he makes a joke out of fighters who can't measure up, and then it seems that he avoids destroying brazilian fighters purposely and carries them to a decision.

Obviously, he shouldn't fight certain brazilian fighters who aren't aggressive strikers? What else could you do really. If you put him against machida i GUARANTEE a disappointment. He wants to fight GSP almost desperately...last year GSP said he was 230 lbs, now he's talking about cutting to 170? How is that a punishment if he wants to do it?

Brock lesnar is ridiculous really. Lets "punish" him by setting him up against either aggressive brazilians like vitor or....maybe wanderlei? Or just non brazilians that talk smack IE: chael sonnen.

It's a different type of domination for sure, but jokes and taunting or not, still a dominant performance.

Omg dis is y fedor p4p champ!

Who cares if he only fights at one weight in strikeforce, and a ton of his wins are fed to him? He still finishes people and that's what all of us bloodthirsty unintelligent rednecks REALLY want!

LOLOLOLOL are you guys kidding me? machida vs a. silva would be a super snooze fest not a super fight. a defensive striker vs a guy who does very little when people don't attack him.

if you want to see entertaining fights vs Anderson silva, put him up against someone who isn't afraid to punch him hard in his cocky face. someone who is a good wrestler and is too proud to just stand and there and let him do that to them. im not saying that the fighter would definitely win, but it would be much more of a fight than silva vs machida. especially since they are good friends, they wont really be out to hurt eachother.

i say make anderson silva fight rampage at 205 and give him sonnen and belfort at middleweight.

he's a phenominal fighter, so all of you silva fans, don't hate me. i respect his talent tons.

i just feel his actions and behavior are not that of a martial artist.

he looks more like a chad-ochocinco or something.

would love to see him fight wanderlei or belfort.

    then bump to lhw permanently.

i would love to see rampage or rashad tag him or put him on his back.

or couture wrap him up if possible.

too bad bones jones isn't more seasoned and shogun isn't more of an agressor. i'd like to see those as well.

177 lb catchweight btwn him and gsp?

and i'm with some of you.

i'd love to see lesnar destroy him but i don't see silva fighting at hw or being put against the strongest guy in ufc (possibly mma) anytime soon.

the fact remains is that he's still champ and still attracts fans.

if belfort or wanderlei can't do the job though, he needs to vacate the title and make the bump.

i think that may even up the divisions more.

hopefully franklin or other lhw's will drop down to mw then.

    No punishment for Silva.

All he did was showboat. Hell, if Dana didn't punish GSP for GREASING while cameras were rolling against BJ... how can he honestly punish Silva???
