I dont think this old man will ever retire. He just loves competing in mma too much. IMO I think he should hang them up. He is 47 years old, if he really wants to continue competing it should be for smaller shows. Just like what Dan Severn does who is 50. I just dont want Randy to get cut from the UFC.

he's on a 3 fight win streak so i doubt he'll get cut anytime soon. people have been doubting him since he was 40 and he always proves them wrong. i'm not saying he'd beat machida or rua but if he wants to give it one more go then let the legend step in the cage one last time.

shogun will destroy randy but i wouldnt want to see it. At this point randy is hugely respected and like many fighters he does have a legacy but if he continues fighting and collecting losses he could end up going down the path of liddell. I dont think anyone wants to see their favourite fighters getting ko;ed for fun. And i go back to liddell again when i say that.

I don't know man, I THINK, I may be wrong and I'm too lazy to look it up, but Couture has only been actually KO'ed by Chuck Liddell back in the day. Not that Machida and Shogun aren't better, and I'm sure both would beat Couture, but I think a KO may not be the way it would happen. Maybe TKO?

    @Stiks

Lesnar also TKO'd him n Nog dropped him twice in there fight...if he fights Machida or Shogun I see him getting finished, I can picture Machida dropping Couture with a knee to the body like Vera did n then GNPing him n Shogun just dropping him with punches n following up till the ref stops it

I think we should find out :-p I mean the dude is on a 3 fight winning streak. I personally think he should retire, but if he can still put up a fight/win against guys in their prime, then he should be allowed to continue. He is nowhere near the stage where Chuck Liddell is.

He mite b on a 3 fight win streak but look who he beat Vera, Coleman n Toney n Vera gave him trouble n even dropped him...If he fights Shogun or Machida I see no other outcome then Couture losing via KO

I actually think Couture has a good chance against either of them. If they can avoid the take down and the clinch they win but I don't think they can.

Randy has probably learned Lyotos weakness by now as showcased by Shogun and Rampage. I am not blasting it that Rampage won but Rampage did show what you can do to throw Machida off.

If machida was thrown off it happened before he got in the ring. He wasn't as confident in anything he was doing until the 3rd round and panicked far easier than he does in successful fights. That being said, i believe machida won the fight

I'd like to see him fight either, would he be the favorite, no, but he has a legitimate chance against both of them. I'd like to say give him the next title shot, and if he loses he went down fighting the best and if he wins he has the option to retire a champion which he deserves. I know this probably isn't ever going to happen or would be a logical move for the UFC but I would still like to see it happen.

legitimate chance against shogun? the only chance randy has of doing that is catching shogun on his return when he has ring rust or not fully fit. Im a randy fan bu imt also a realistic fan and considering randy only just cos past vera, thinking randy has a legitimate chance against shogun i think its ridiculous. Shogun fit will really hurt randy, he will finish him inside 2.

I agree the likely outcome is a Shogun TKO but Couture could use his dirty boxing, press him up against the cage and basically rough Shogun (or Machida) up, he needs to keep the fight on the inside and avoid the strikes. He's not gonna take either of them down easily but working from the clinch he does have a chance still. I'm not saying a great one but a legitimate one nonetheless.

CK1, remember shogun also just barely got past mark coleman, and then KO'd over the hill lidell, everyone was saying he was done too so obviously that logic doesnt work.

I see him having a decent shot against shogun though

yeah i remember him losing to forrest and struggling with coleman, hence my comment about ring rust or not being fully fit. He looked in awful shape against forrest but im sure he had either injured his knee or was coming back from surgery. Look at his performances against liddell and machida and he was a wrecking machine in pride. let shogun get fit with 1-2 warm up fights and he will destroy randy. my opinion.

Shogun doesn't have great takedown defense though. Machida took him down twice fairly easily. I think he would fare worse against a

Good wrestler. Rashad maybe will have a chance. That's not getting ko'd trying to clench though. My plan would be to keep taking him

Down until he was tired. His bjj is good so keeping him on the ground

Depends on position other wise just get up and do it again

Machida however is a bad matchup for Randy. He has great take down defense and good wrestling (extremely under rated). He moves around

A lot more and uses angles. Randy will do better with someone who want to clench (like in muay Thai ) where they find it's not so easy to plum him.

Pfft look at anyones performance against liddell lately, and doesnt really hold water to say he wasnt inshape for mark coleman...when has coleman been known for his gastank?

Then look at randys performance against coleman...i dont even remember him getting hit.

Chuck was up on the score cards before he was KO'd in my opinion and Chuck was up in the cards in all his last 4 fights until the KO's came. Chuck is still a great fighter but a busted chin wire is letting him down.

Fighting Shogun would be a mistake. Honestly he'd get overwhelmed by Shogun. Now Machida is a more interesting fight. Randy can glue himself to Machida for three rounds, take him down, do some damage etc. As long as he doesn't make this a striking game he has a good chance. Again he is getting old, don't know if he has the chin for it. Machida does hit hard.

I think when a fighter reaches a certain status (HOF/legend etc) fighters like Randy, Fedor, Hughes, R. Gracie, Sakuraba... then rankings can sometimes go out the window and that's OK. Give him the fight they want. If top level comp. is what they need to be truly inspired to fight at their best...give it to them. I want to see Couture/Machida.

One day he is done and the next day he wants to fight.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing about Couture really.

He is an actor not a fighter .. he elaborated in great depth on this just last week.

It sure as hell wouldn't be fair to the other fighters who climb their way through the division to EARN better fights just to have Couture jump in at anytime for a payday.

He isn't sticking around .. that means every fight he does is irrelevant to the division - and is just about the money.

He is going from a guy i had mad respect for .. to a guy i wish would just STFU and go away. I have no interest in non-ranked gimmick fights ... same for Royce Gracie as well.

It's fair since he is on a 3 fight win streak and since when should a fighter just give up on his last few fights? That would be retarded. Randy has earned his spotlight and the up and comers have to do the same. Randy is getting no special treatment if he were to fight Machida or Shogun since he is in the mix right now.

pretty relevant since he won 3 in a row and Rampage won 1 and machida is on 2 losses. On top of that Shogun has beaten only Chuck and narrowly beat Coleman who was crushed by Randy. In fact Coleman was winning up until the stoppage. No Randy is not getting special treatment to get to fight these guys. He is actually still a threat to both of them.

i actually think a fight between Randy and Machida makes sense, i mean Randys on a three fight win streak and Machida has just come off two losses, so IMO that more than qualifys Couture for a shot at one of the top guys in the devision especially if that guy has just lost two fights, also i think Couture would have a legitimate chance to win against Machida, however Rua would more than likely Ko Randy

I think Machida wins that fight, and maybe wins it easily, but I wouldn't bet against Randy. It would be an upset, but I still could see a couple of ways Couture might win.

Randy should stay in the sport by being a referee. He has been through several wars and his knowledge, mentality and fairness of the game would be a huge combination to make sure that he makes the right calls in the cage or that he has given the fighter enough time to improve his position before getting badly hurt.
