Confirmed: Winner of Fitch vs Alves will get a title shot
Posted on August 5, 2010, 06:22 PM by BCLionz81With Fitch expressing that it is no secret that he believes he is undoubtably the number one contender in the ufc's welterweight divison and said if he can stop the always dangerous brazillian "Pitbull" Thiago Alves at UFC 117, that he believes the UFC could not deny him of his rightful spot as numder one contender for the the UFC's covident 170 pound Championship.
At today's UFC 117 press conference Dana White told media and confirmed that "the winner of this weekends ufc 117 welterweight match between arguably the number two and three ranked welterweights in the world Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves" will indeed be in line after Josh Koscheck to get his shot at the champ. It puts Koscheck and Fitch in a akward and difficult position if Josh were to win the belt because him and Fitch are teamates at AKA.
Jon Fitch is quoted as saying in recent interviews that if Josh Koscheck were to best GSP on december 11th at UFC 124 and capture the welterweight title, that he would move up to the 185 pound division and compete there as long as his American Kickboxing Acedemy" teamate Kos was champ. But Dana seems to have other plans if it were to play out this way and said that "he'll fight Koscheck"... This is bound to happen from time to time when you have two friends and teamates training under one roof. Jon said he isn't looking past Thiago and if victorious this saturday that he will address this situation afterwards.

What ? But wait... if Thiago wins, it would be like an almost immediate rematch with GSP since his last fight was against him, which he lost.... I think Fitch should get the title shot if he wins but not Alves... Don't get me wrong, i love Alves but i'm just confused...
I believe this has to do with Alves approaching the weigh-ins way over. Fitch already said he wouldnt be interested fighting if Alves is considerably over-weight. Dana White probably got worried and sealed the fight with a promise of a title shot.
in an interview after a press conferance ariel helwani asked dana, if jake shields were to win, would he over take fitch and alves for a title shot. dana said that he wasnt sure which would indicate to me that he would have the winner of this fight and the winner of kampmann and shields fight for the title
personally i dont think that alves or fitch should get a title shot if they win this fight, alves i love but his last fight was against georges so he should have to build back up for the shot.. fitch, although he has 4 wins only 2 of them are against top fighters. and he didnt even look that good in the fight, he was fighting for the decision, not fighting to win and finish, he was fighting not to lose.
Dana stretched it as far and long as he somewhat legitimately could. Good job Fitch and I hope you get there.

I for some reason don't think if thiago wins they will give him the shot at the belt, they would probably would put winner of kampmann vs sheilds against him then the winner would get a title shot. look at hendo when he earned his shot the ufc just took it away and gave it to someone else....but ya if fitch wins he''ll definitely 100 percent sure get the shot cause he earned it
If Alves gets the shot it would be like a FU to fitch. The guy has worked his ass off to get another shot beating like 3-4 guys and now thiago comes back after a year of no action and all he needs is one win and he gets another chance at the title....thats pretty unfair
then i guess fitch better win eh? if Alves beats fitch it proves hes better than fitch, who woulda got the title shot after this win.. all in all if alves beats fitch its like he jumps the whole ladder and gets top dog position because of fitch's skill.. Honestly other than kampman and shields I dunno who else to give a shot to? Swick? prob going up to 185 and either way couldnt beat hardy
Yeah Fitch better win but it he is winning and gets caught like many great fighters have it would be a shame in that he would most likely win most fights against Alves and would have to again climb the ladder wether or not he is the 2nd best.
I think this proves its time for GSP - SIlva. GSP will just be beating guys he already whooped.
GSP vs Alves or Fitch would have the same result. Isn't this why Sheilds was brought in for?
