CompuStrike: The History of Jon Jones' Violence
Posted on March 21, 2011, 06:54 AM by Anton GurevichNewly crowned UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones dominated every fighter on his way to glory, using every thinkable and unthinkable MMA technique to his advantage. Our good friends at CompuStrike.com calculated Jon Jones' overall statistics during his last five fights, comparing to his last five opponents.
So guess what? It doesn't matter if you're Vladimir Matyushenko, Brandon Vera, Ryan Bader or Shogun Rua. The result will be the same.
Jon Jones landed seven times more arm strikes and eight times more leg strikes than his victims inside the Octagon. Jones was successful in 88% of his takedown attempts, while none of his opponents were able to take him down. Without any shadow of doubt, this is one of the most dominant runs in the history of Mixed Martial Arts.

is it just me or is this not that good ??? silvas would all be in the 80% same with machida n other top guys
Its just you, machida was out struck by shogun in efficient strikes in their first fight,
anderson silva was almost raped on the ground and even rocked a few times by chael,
you are just trying to say something against J.jones and disrespect him subtly
hes good, and hes that good , so just deal with it
There's nothing bad about doubting Jon Jones. After all.. he'll lose eventually.
But right now, the guy is a bulldozer.
im just askign like idc if u beat silva doesnt mean your better them him u got to do what he did witch was clear out a division ko a shit of people n be humble n!!!! have good stats
I totally agree. The kid is a STUD! But eventually he will make a mistake and somebody will capitalize on it or somebody with a better game plan might be the better man that day. MMA is like a game of Chess! You got to love it!
exactly personally i dont think shogun was 100% n he shouldn't of thrown kicks or really go fo subs he should of bin trying to get up as fast as possible n box him i think either phill davis or rashad can beat him all depends weather he can throw them around like he has ever one else still jones hasn't fought a wrestler like rashad or phill
Bader is a great wrestler buddy and got owned. Jones will lose oneday but that day isn't coming soon. He never gets hurt in fights. RUA had no reach he would've been getting jabbed and kicked all night if bones wanted to stand the whole time. These stats are great and they look better while in action. Prepare for an A.Silva run from the Big Homie Jon "Bones" Jones.
i dont think jones could make 185 if he could it would be bomb n i dont understand how u can compare jones to silva??? has jones had almost 30 fights? has jones cleaned out his division ? has jones ever bin in a war were your like that can be fight of the year or comeback of the year? like i dont understand one good win n ever one thinks hes the best n comparing him to anderson silva i just cant help but luagh jones is good dont get me wrong n dont get me wrong again but baders a good werslter for not being in the top ten LHW rashad rampage phill n randy they have good take downs
You make points that were not well thought out. Anderson Silva had to start somewhere too. The comparison between Jones and Silva is based on talent, not experience. He hasn't had the long drawn out battle/comeback yet. On the other hand everybody praised Silva for his quick destruction of Irvin and Leben. Granted, those victories were impressive(especially against Lebeb, where he landed 100% of he's strikes) but how can Silva be seen as god-like with his quick victories and Jones is doubted because of his own? There are still a few unanswered questions about Jones, but they will be answered eventually, whereas Silvas have been answered, and the blueprint to beat him has been laid out.
legacy n begin a great fighter is not about wining its about what u done and how u fight i am not doubt jones belt doesn't mean your the best like fedors still the best look at his past look at his legacy i liked it back when a fighter could lose 3 times in a row n as long as u fight n have a warriors mentality not this win win win no how about putting on a show?
Those are some very impressive numbers & the victims are nothing to sneeze at. The higher the comp, the more dominate Jones seems to be.
It's a bit funny that so far the toughest fight he's had was against Bonnar. I'm a believer that Jones will move up to HW, he's so young and he's going to be putting on more muscle was time goes on, he won't be able to cut weight as easily, he's already cutting like 20 pounds, I really doubt Shogun cuts weight, maybe a few pounds. Jones is probably the biggest light heavyweight in the UFC a long with his reach and good coaching he'll go far. But a move to HW is inevitable IMO. And then we'll see him fight guys that are his size.
S the questions have been answered in reference to Shogun vs Rua:
Q: Can Jones stand/strike with Rua?
A: Jones can and did out-strike the legend and man known for his unbridled violence.
Q: Is Jon Jones overhyped?
A: Perhaps, but "hype" refers to media coverage, water-cooler talk & overall discussion so regardless of how good he obviously is I can see how some people feel like he was "over-hyped" from the sheer volume of attention. If the "hype" is referencing his skill level...then absolutely not
Q: Is Jon Jones too ****y or arrogant for his own good?
A: No. I've scoured hours of material, seen all his fights (that are accessible via youtube,UFC etc) watched him train & interviewed him personally & I have to say that characterization is incorrect. I believe that the combination he possesses of sheer confidence and humility lead people to believe the latter is scripted or simply a false projection. I disagree. The simple fact of the matter is that when someone is THIS good and gets THIS much media coverage people who maybe aren't their biggest fans get irritated and feel that their favorite fighters are being neglected which leads them to lay the blame of the percieved lop-sidedness of the media on the fighter himself. He's just a 23-yr. old kid trying to balance out having fun and behaving appropriately
Q: Is their anyone currently in the LHW division that matches up on paper well with Jones and can defeat him?
A: I don't believe so. If you take his previous opponents & their styles (the blue-collar grinders, the NCAA wrestlers, the experienced "Lions", the violent standup strikers etc) then it would appear that their is not. Granted, not every fighter in the LHW division that has has yet to face Bones falls perfectly into (1) of these molds. Machida is a counter-striker who fights in a style heavily influenced by his Karate background & Forrest Griffin is a scrapper w/ underrated Jitz.
In my opinion, if Jones gets by Evans (I believe he will) then there are (2) guys out there that could give Jonny "Bones" Jones some serious problems. The first is the obvious and is the current P4P ranked fighter in the world, Anderson "The Spider" Silva. Anderson has very unpredictable striking as Jones as well as 3 times the ring/octagon time. Some will say the "blueprint" to defeat The Spider was drafted by Hendo and then implemented much more effectively by Chael Sonnen. Wrestle him to death Americana-style and beat him up from the top. If Chael and Hendo can do it, Jon Jones IMHO is certainly a more effective MMA wrestler than either of those (2) and will be able to accomplish the same. The second fighter is a much more down-the-road scenario, yet very possible in my mind. His name is "Mr. Wonderful" Phil Davis. He is built like a mack truck w/ a solid pedigree and has increased his striking ability/efficiency exponentially in each fight. Give this kid another year or so and he could pose a very interesting problem for the newly crowned LHW Champion of the World.
So there it is. Please hit me up and let me know what your thoughts are on my analysis and tell me what you think. Great community here on Lowkick and good comments all around.
wow.
Very good comment. I agree about Davis. He doesn't have the striking at the moment, but if he keeps improving at the rate he has been, then I believe he may pose a serious threat to Jones eventually. Davis seems to be comparably dominant and effective in the wrestling department as Jones, and also has a very unique frame. I look forward to the future meeting of these two.
Great post. Totally agree
So apologies for the obnoxiously long "comment" above but I just saw something I never noticed. Shogun taps at EXACTLY when the clock reads 2:23 and disappears before 2:24. During that second, Shogun is already on the ground when he looks up, looks back down assuming more blows are coming and CLEARLY taps 3-4 times as Herb Dean is stopping the fight. You can see it through Deans' legs as it occurs. Shogun is a fuk*n warrior and it's a testament to jones's dominance more than anything. Who picked Shogun tapping from strikes? No one on earth and although that is not technically the result of the fight....it would've been if Herb gave it literally 2 more seconds. What a great fight
I have a lot of respect for Compustrike. It doesn't always settle arguments, but comes close.
And if they say "one of the most dominant runs in the history of Mixed Martial Arts", believe it.
Only time will tell if we have being witnessing the birth of a legend, but it sure looks like it so far.
